Show's canceled, fuckers. How dare you let her fall this early
But, for the sake of satiating our endless curiosity, we'll pretend that the competition kept going after this point to see what happens.

Sometimes, when you’re having a really rough time, the best thing you can do is just be a little kind to yourself, right..?

It’s been a bit since we’ve done some Sonic writing…
So we need your help for our next one-shot fanfic video! Give us Sonic characters, ships, and topics in the comments (or through our ask box!) and we’ll spin the wheel to see what Sonic fic we write on screen next!
Please note, we reserve the right to filter suggestions at our discretion. Thanks for your support, and we’re excited to give you the next installment!
Check out our previous fanfic video, where we write a Vector and Knuckles one-shot (featuring voice acting from our good friend @franticmelody !)
Big post about music that inspired my writing (1 of ?)
I get a lot of ideas from just listening to music, in an exceedingly teenager-writing-sort-of-way. Sometimes it's just lines cribbed here and there, sometimes it's the classic "I closed my eyes and envisioned a scene by listening to this song." On rare occasion entire stories exist because of a song.
It's mostly of interest to me, I'd guess, but I want to make little writeups about particular examples and what came of them. Because I like write things! Screw you! I love being cringe and caring about things!
The Mountain Goats- Training Montage (I'm Doing This For Revenge)
Whisper was what got me into IDW. Even before I fully committed to reading it I remember thinking she was really cool, and when I finally read the T&W miniseries and saw her backstory I immediately came to the conclusion I needed to write her.
This song is what clicked that into place, less as a narrative and more as a broad concept. It's a tongue in cheek song about revenge-driven training montages from action movies, and as I was listening to it I realized a furious renegade Whisper would be really fun.
Originally the story was gonna be a lot more angry, and dark! I really wanted to lean into the fruitless vengence aspect. But around the middle point, I realized I would much rather reach for a happier ending. Still, the chorus ended up becoming the title of the fic, so I'll always associate it with it.
Porcupine Tree- Arriving Somewhere But Not Here
Arriving Somewhere But Not Here is a (really long) song about death being as unpredictable as life. Basically that you can not only end up somewhere you never imagined or planned for, but also that it can all come to a screeching halt no matter how well you're doing.
The idea for Spark came from a conversation I was having forever ago in the bumblekast fanfic discord. We got on the subject of the metal virus, and a person (I believe their name was Dawson?) brought up the metal virus becoming unstable and killing Surge. Their idea was her dying on the spot, but I got a whole thing in my head about Surge having a hero arc and at the tail end of it realizing she was going to die. The question became how she would react to the information that she was finally going in the right direction, only to discover she never had a chance. What could be more unfair? Did anything leading up to it really matter?
It's a really depressing song, and I must have listened to it about a hundred times while I was writing Surge realizing she and Kit didn't have much time left. The part leading to the finale of Spark even borrows bits of it as chapter titles. But at the same time, I came to think of the fic of itself as a refutation of the idea of the song. Look at lil' old me being all hopeful about stuff.
Ironically, although it really resonated with me for Surge's plot, I feel like a lot of its ideas bled more into what I was doing with Whisper in that story. Surge is fighting the fear of the sudden catastrophe, but Whisper is almost wholly drowning in it. I think of it kind of like her theme.
Subsignal- Even Though the Stars Don't Shine (A Spark That Won't Go Out)
Taken from their 5th album, La muerta, released in 2018 by Gentle of Art Music. If you like the song buy the album and support the band. ---
I don't remember how I found Subsignal, exactly. They are a very obscure prog band with heavy 80s Rush influence. It happened while I was writing Spark, and it genuinely might have been spotify autoplay or something. I got really obsessed with the albums La Muerta and Poetry of Rain though. This one really stuck with me. I interpret it as putting forth the idea that even the people you lose are important. They make your life better long after they're gone.
That's basically the thesis of Spark in music form. The sad moodiness of Arriving Somewhere is the story's foundation, but I feel like the optimism of this is what made me solidify the eventual path forward in my head. If it weren't for this (and some input from brokshi) I don't actually know if I would have had Surge survive the end of the story. Which, on one hand, would have made the ending infinitely more poignant. But on the other hand, both cuts off the potential of future Surge content.
RIP Lucario's only OC. You were not long for this world
But there's still 23 of our beloved children for you all to tear down in front of our very eyes.
Of course, the second team is up for elimination next. So, between mine, @bumpsyp1ains, @shatter-song, @napstabl00k, @lanolinfan, @lucariowrites, @skojukebox, @themightyhumanbroom, @khalewren, @mirenheart, @theaussieblue, @ash-rose-milf-era, and @fyairo-chrysalis' OC's...
