The 7 Deadly Sins (so far)
Now let's start with what exactly is their role in the hierarchy:
Outside of Lucifer being the ruler of Hell, each of them ruling over the ring of their sin and participating in trials, there's nothing else about them. They do not represent a part of the system, and their being the representation of the sin feels irrelevant since it's not even clear if their presence causes people to sin. Vivziepop could have invented something more about them, but the problem is that those Sins are way too ordinary to actually see them as very important.
Ruler of Hell? More like submissive to Hell. He has 0 sense of authority to the point of allowing Heaven to do a yearly genocide, Overlords do whatever they want, classism between demons, ect. (Biden, is that you?). He and his daughter Charlie don't even have royal guards despise the fact that they are rulers of Hell (seriously, in Hellaverse, characters are leaders just in name). Here's a thing, I could have accepted the idea that Lucifer was a negligent ruler because his pride is so high to think that he doesn't need effort to make things better and letting everyone else do the job for him... if that was the intention. Instead, the story wants us to see him as a misunderstood guy with big dreams, and that Heaven crushed his dreams (of ducks?). How can he represent pride if he has self-esteem issues? Yes, I know that people who are too proud of themself actually have an inferiority and superiority complex, but those people are also toxic as they often look everyone from up to down and play the victim once they are between a rock and a hard place (seriously, Vox and Adam are more Lucifer than Lucifer). If Vivziepop wanted to make Lucifer good but still the sin of pride, then the best method would be if has sense of guilt for what happened when he gave the apple to Eve and what happened to her instead of having the narrative shifting all on Heaven because they got upset for the outcome. That Lucifer wanted to fix things because he wanted to prove to Heaven that he can still be useful, but all his efforts only made things worse because what he did was a damage that was beyond repair and now there's no way on fixing it, which leads Charlie to think out of the box. And most importantly, not being vague about Lucifer dreams. That maybe the reason he gave the apple wasn't because he wanted to do a good thing like giving humans knowledge, but because he wanted humans to be similar to him because he was so perfect to where no angel was like him. Yes, is still giving him self-esteem issues, but at least in this version he's more active than passive.
Sin of Lust? Yeah, right...
He's not even on a gooner level. He's just a Casanova. Actually, no, scratch that, he's not even a Casanova because he loves his imp Fizzarolli too much. He acts more like a god of love than a demon of lust. Is frankly odd how in the episode he gets introduces he seems way more coherent with his sin. Asmodeus shows himself upset about Moxxie singing a simple love song for his wife because it ruins the vibe in his place. Yeah, remember that? Remember how he praises physical relationships? But then Vivziepop strongly shipped him with Fizzarolli (yeah, even in the debut episode they're like that, I know) to the point of them looking like a normal monogamous couple. For more odd writing choices, Asmodeus even loses his arrogant attitude and becomes a softie to the point of treating Stolas well (as if it wasn't him who bullied him in the debut episode). Asmodeus, however, has the "high-class hypocrisy" (a word created by me for those characters like Lucifer and Charlie who have all the power and authority but don't use it when it's needed). He knows what Fizzarolli is going through thanks to Mammon, he's against unrequired lust, and yet he does nothing about it.
The only thing he does is express concern, but that's about it. He doesn't make any deals with Mammon, despite the fact that they are in the same status, like "look, treat the imps the way you want to, but don't harm my boyfriend" if not at the end of the episode because he needed Frizzarolli to be ok with that (seriously, why is Vivziepop obsessed with the idea that victims of abuse shouldn't be helped because they have to take care of themselves?). He also knew about Stolas sleeping with an imp consensually, so in Mastermind he could have said that to defend Blitzo since he wanted to. But nah, we need to overcomplicate things to move the plot (to give more and more of the idea that the story is just "and then this happens").
She's Ke$ha's fursona. There, I said it, you cannot change my mind. She was clearly designed to be voiced by Ke$ha specifically considering how Vivziepop is a big fan of her. Her similarity to JayJay from Zoophobia, her music video of Cotton Candy similar to that Zoophobia video of Die Young. It's all there. Kesha, in fact, voiced her, but only for her debut episode. Then, in the Mastermind episode, she's voiced by Rochelle Diamante. And how can you blame her? You can hear Kesha dying inside by reading those lines.
Anyway, Beelzebub suffer the same problem as Asmodeus, not only she's against indulgence (completely in contrast with the sin she's supposed to represent), but also she does nothing about the hellhounds conditions despite the fact that her boyfriend is a hellhound and she love hellhounds. When she sees Loona in the trial forced to wear a muzzle, she doesn't bat an eye (but at least she tries to defend Blitzo). She's the equivalent of that Hollywood (or you can say HollyWOOF *bada bum tss*) celebrity that posts on social media or only in front of cameras how much she cares about the little guys and how much she despise the ones harming them, but in reality she does nothing about it. It wouldn't be a problem if that were the intention, but fat chance of that.
As for her design: I don't like it. She's designed to be a furry. Beelzebub needs to be more insect-like, or heck, make her some kind of chimera.
Also, I take this opportunity to confess a fucked up I did, I said that Beelzebub had control of the care center of Hellhounds, but I was wrong on that. I took a missinfo and I apologize. I also said that no one seems to call her out about being friend with the Hellhounds when it does happen in Mastermind, but even when she gets called out it's not treated as a big deal anyway, more like it annoys Mammon.
He's the only one coherent with his sin, everyone says that and everyone agrees with that. Oh, but he's the bad guy in this story! You see? Mammon exploits his employees, treats them like merch, and only cares about money... just like Valentino... Anyway. Mammon received the exact same treatment as Adam and Stella: 0 nuance, evil just because, evilly subtle like a blue whale, and everyone hates him. I already said it before, but I'll say it again. If Mammon is the sin of greed, why not putting him in charge of the banks of Hell? Because if there's money in Hell, then there must be banks. There must be an economy. Why a higher-class demon is just a generic Disney CEO? Yes, I know that CEOs are very rich, but it's not like their status puts them above enough to get full control of the government. As I said before, considering that the sins are close to the king of Hell, it would have made much more sense if each sin represent a form of the system, and Mammon would have been perfect if he was in charge of the economy. (also what kind of currency do they have in Heaven in Hell? And why dollars?). Also, I don't understand why his design isn't more pig related since pigs are often used to symbolize greed, but I guess that it would have been too much on the nose.
I don't know much about her except that Mammon has a crush on her, and only the left head is into it, and I'm certain that she won't have more depth (unless Viv gets into the ship).
She's sleepy and uses drugs. That's it.
I don't know if I'm the only one thinking that, but I don't like that Satan's design is a generic-looking dragon. He's the most evil being, the most cruel, the pure darkness, I genuinely think that Vivziepop could have done something better than this. Now, he says in his song that he rules over Hell before the fall of Lucifer, which lead to a lot of confusion among fans. Vivziepop clarified that he was lying and that Beelzebub and Asmodeus know that.
Ok... First of all, just because you're showing me Beelzebub and Asmodeus rolling their eyes, that doesn't mean that we can immediately assume that Satan is lying, because, for us, that expression could have meant "Oh dear, he's flexing again" or "Is bothersome that Lucifer never shows up". Why? Because we barely know Satan here. He looks too intimidating, too serious, and his trait is that he has anger issues, to give us the idea that he's a liar. Maybe don't give him this line since it's also quite irrelevant at the end (like, what change does in the story that Satan is lying?).
Anyway, Satan seems coherent to his sin, and there's not much negative that I can say about him (outside of his design), he's fine.
