casting a powerful spell on everyone involved in fandom discourse about which characters are "abusive" where they have to stop and define what exactly they think abuse means and how it is different from "being a huge dick" or "being cruel" or "acting in ways that are ethically unjustified" first
i do not think grand moff tarkin was being an abuser when he blew up alderaan. that does not mean i think it's cool that he blew up alderaan, or that he is a better person than other people who are abusers, just that there are other words we could use that do a better job of describing how and why that was bad
i don't think tumblr fandom at large is really ready for this but one reason "is it abuse" is such a big wanky discourse topic is that often people don't seem to know any other way to say that they think an action is really bad. it's either abuse, or it's a minor dick move that's within jerk-with-a-heart-of-gold territory.
and professional writers mostly do not have this problem, which is why you're going to constantly be frustrated by expecting them to agree with any side of a fandom argument about which characters are abusive to which other characters; the only time they're likely to be thinking about that is if the concept of abuse is specifically a theme of the narrative they're working with. otherwise it's just not that useful a question to ask, more useful questions are going to be "why does this character do what they do? how does it affect this other character, and how do they react to it, and why? do we mean for either of their actions to seem sympathetic, and if so why? what themes are we trying to show through this relationship?" "is it technically abuse" is a question that's usually kind of orthogonal to all of that and there's often just no real reason for creators to want to nail down an answer other than "well, it's up to you, what do you think?"
its cool to do alternative readings of characters based on their wasted potential but sometimes fandom will be like "canon is wrong for thinking [character] is [trait]" and [trait] will be the core tenet of the character which defines not only their personal arc but also their role in the larger story
It's me and my oc x canon against the world
[wishing so bad to vaguepost but not wanting to send harassment after anyone] i saw a post. and it was bad.
Bonus Day: About drawing armor
----------------
Surprise late doodle for Azure Gleam Rally on bsky!
I had a lot of fun drawing pieces for that rally, and I love the Gautiers with all my heart but dang. Drawing all that armor over and over again and coloring and shading and getting lost with all the parts AGGGGH
I love me characters in armor but I'm taking a break lmaooo.
You actually cannot skip to being good at a creative endeavour that you haven't put much practice into. You cannot trick your way out of the 'knows that your work is not what you want it to be but don't know how to improve it' stage by planning or reading or talking about it really really hard. At some point you just have to craft through it until your brain finds it's own unique way back to the 'everything I make slaps' stage and be prepared to start the cycle all over again. You just have to make that project you're excited about slightly less good than you want it to be. (Says this standing in a pool of blood and covered in blood and also coughing up a little blood)
Piece I made for Art Scuffle but also wanna post on here. Bi Gautiers, my beloveds...

grievances below the cut
it is saddening to see how harmful and dangerous rhetoric can be condoned and pardoned when fandomites use enough leftist buzzwords to mask it.
fiction is not reality nor does it dictate your ethics. however i am very tired how theres a refusal to recognize any personal responsibility (or even do basic self reflection) to how a person approaches can reveal some of your ethics:
depiction isn't endorsement, but can you tell when fandom trends are misogynistic or racist? can you see how killing off a black female character to "punish" her in fanfiction with the framing that she deserves it, and the popular narrative in a certain fandom that a heroic black man is a possessive liar and a white villain is a good man deserving redemption, is endorsing a message in fanfic? do you argue that it's "just fiction" when people get very understandably upset at misogyny and racism in fandom spaces? (poetikat)
i understand how there are bad-faith criticisms and fans who perpetuate misogyny, racism, etc. those are legitimate grievances—criticizing harmful trends doesnt justify nor negate poor behaviour
my core belief is that no ones worst moments condemns them to be irredeemable, and everyone is inclined to do right by others. i dont believe in holding someones past mistakes over their head
however, i also notice how mindfulness or even basic remorse is absent. shame is something thats needs to comforted—youre the bad guy for making them feel like theyre not a good person. the most outwardly leftist fans end up parroting the most dangerous rhetoric, yet get the most defensive when confronted
so when fans who bring up such concerns get chased out or shunned into silence
and man, i really would rather deal with an outward bigot to whatever the hell this "leftism" is in fannish spheres. at least a bigot will be upfront about their biases. at least im not lulled into false security
Wanted to draw up a persona but wanted it to be silly and fun. this is what I got, it captures my over-emotional ass pretty well, I'd say lmaooo.
tumblr ban is over, i can just use the app lmfaooooo
the website is way more intuitive but i’ll take what i can get
neeever mind, the app decided to shit itself lmfao. i dont want to risk eating a ban to my blog, so looks like tumblrs on the limited menu 😔
