Today should be the most amazing day for three reasons (1) LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Valentines day (2) Thus it is the day that follows my Birthday, what a magical day (3) If it wasn't for St. Valentine and God we would not take the extra time out to cebrate our love. I know some individuals think its a "hallmark" holiday, but I do not because some people are busy and don't get to enjoy each other,or some individuals, like myself LOVE to make ARTS and CRAFTS!! I am a kid at heart stilll...sorry :]

As I was saying today is a bad day because school work! BLAH!!!@@@@@**^^^  I just want to step outside and scream (if I do that I think I may freak my neighbors out a bit lol) I have a test tomorrow, huge paper due, homework assigments, just so much! Today I am ALWAYS the perfect wife making the most amazing home made crafts, this year I feel I have failed my husband. I made everything at the last min, I am just so stressed its not even funny lol BAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I thought I would jump on the bandwagon since there are many individuals in our community who have spoken some concerns about the term "Asperger's" being removed once the new DSM V comes out . And I believe this topic is important because to some individuals it means a lot to them.  Therefore, I want to ensure to my fellow Aspergerians that everything will be okay and you will be the same person that you are today!

I personally do not care if the American Psychiatric Association removes the term Aspergers because I know who I am as a person. At the end of the day Aspergers is a form a autism; its considered to be a spectrum disorder. I can see some positiveness coming from these changes because every time I tell someone I have "Aspergers" they say; "WHAT ;}" LOL Instead (and as of lately) I can say " I have an autism spectrum disorder. When dealing with neurotypical individuals this will be the point when either (the light bulb goes off lol and that weird smile happens) or they say "oh I understand and ask you some questions, which could become awkward.

I just recently did a post about Thunder Hats which is related to the Thurdershirts that are made for pets with social problems. I always have a millon different thoughts going through my mind, therefore I had a picture of one of my Thunder Hats just forgot about the picture. This Thunder Hat is new! Since my husband and I live in Chicago, every Christmas Chicago has a little Christmas market set up from the begining of December until the 24th. I had been wanting a hat that has the gloves attached to the hat, but the only ones we find at stores are for kids; the length was not long enough lol. Finally after a couple beers and wondering around found one by mistake. I was so happy all I could do was smile! I even told my husband "do not get me anything for Christmas because this is all that I needed!"

Thunder Hat

Everyone should be familiar with the Thudershirt created by a company for dogs and cats who have anxiety and other social problems.  The running joke my husband I have for the Thurdershirt is for “doggie Asperger’s.”  The jacket is a form-fitting jacket that snugs around the dog or cat. By the jacket fitting tight around the dog or cats body, it comforts the animal and allows it to feel less stressed, more relaxed, and in control.  This technique is the same technique that parents use when they swaddled their crying baby to make them feel better.   

I love winter time and I love winter hats, especially the fun warm ones. Last Christmas my mom got me a sock monkey hat because she knew how much I love sock monkeys. I wore that hat all the time and when winter ended I was sad to put away my hat. This year has not been an easy year, while my health has been on a roller-coaster ride and my marriage has been very stressful. Being married to a neurotypical individual is HARD, but I would not change it for the world.  One day when I came home I kept my monkey hat on because I was so busy. What I soon learned from that event and every time I kept my hat on was whether I was inside or outside the house I felt more in control, relaxed,  anxiety free, and I could deal with the neurotypical world.

I was diagnosed with Asperger’s when I was eight years old. I always knew I was different from everyone else but that did not bug me because I was one of those individuals that followed their own path. There were times that I would be upset because it scary not being able to understand the neurotypical world but I just dealt with being the “odd ball.” Now that I am older and married and been through all the scary odd phases of my life I am able reflect back on everything and start to understand my self-more now. I just started doing research on Autism or Asperger’s. One thing that stood out to me was that individuals who have Autism are able to create their own world. My entire life I always had my own “worlds” but because I did that I held all the neurotypical individuals to the same standard.

This is one year before I got sick. The purpose of me posting this picture is because of my hair. My natural hair color is a dirty blond, but for many years I would get high lights, and over time it got lighter and lighter. Then when I got on all this medicine within the first month my hair starting coming right out. I was upset for a long time. I am happy to announce today almost one year later that I can accept the new me! It has been a long road, but I am starting to be happy and love myself again. Although my hair is still short I have learn new ways to style my hair. This past weekend was an eye opener for me because my husband and I were at a wedding and all his friends had not seen me since I had been sick. At first they did not know it was me, and then they were like "Alisha at first we did not know who that was, but then we could tell it was you. You look great!" That was the most liberating moment again (2nd time this year) for me because I have really missed my long hair. I do believe that hair for most women is their identity. When they lose it, its like losing a huge part of yourself. People do not realize how we women like to take the time to curl our hair, braid it, up do's, or a new style. When that is taken away from you it hurts because it is something you deeply loved. Not only have I grown from this situation with my hair it has taught me a lesson in life on how one has to learn to make adjustments. That is exactly what I did, it took me a little while but I got through it.
