Levi never thought he’d be back here, not even for a fleeting visit like their current mission. The Underground was a place that harbored many memories for him. It was full of hardship and strife, struggles to reach the surface that grazed their fingertips but seemingly remained just outside of their grasp. Those were the days - days of thievery and danger, scrounging for something to eat, longing for the sunlight. But, those were also the days Levi felt his happiest. 

It was strange - Levi could almost feel the presence of Isabel and Furlan in the building. It was a mess now, filled with dust and cobwebs, broken furniture and discarded trash, yet wherever Levi looked, he saw them : the family he found, the family that saved him. 

The family he lost.

For a moment, Levi forgets Chelsea is even there. Lithe, calloused digits graze over the back of a chair - one Isabel often sat in. His eyes then flit to the couch, tattered and worn, that Furlan used to ( annoyingly ) stretch out on - put his feet up despite Levi’s scolding. He feels himself getting lost in the memories, not even paying any mind to the dust that collected on his fingertips. Perhaps that is the reason Chelsea said something : out of concern. 

‘ Should I leave you alone? ’    Her question rings in his ears, as if she is miles away. After a few more moments of silence, Levi turns to face her.    ❛ No. ❜    He finally responds, his voice just as distant as his past felt. 

Seeing the look of concern on Chelsea’s face snaps Levi back into the present, and he immediately glances down at his fingers. His face contorts in disgust at the sight of dirt on his hands.    ❛ It’s filthy in here. We’re leaving. ❜

He brushes past Chelsea and heads out the door, without so much as a glance back.
