Nah cause the musical I’m doing for my school (High School musical JR) I’m in ensemble but I have this one in the last song which is being part of Trio 1 and I have this one line with two other (amazing) people. And guess what happens during our part. The music just stops and the microphone just gone. And guess what we have to do. Sing a capella. And the music doesn’t turn own so we have to sing the rest of the song a cappella :( …
Didn’t know you disliked Palutena. I know she is a bit of a troll in the English version.
She has a bit of a character arc, from the incident with the monster pheromones in chapter 3, to her beginning to understand Pit better thanks to Dark pit (and thanking him in the jp version) to doing everything in her power in order to save him in chapter 22.
in the Japanese version she is a little different. More formal, likely due to her role as a goddess. In both versions she deals with insecurities and feels inadequate as a goddess for not being able to maintain peace and properly take her of humanity (mirroring Pit’s insecurities about not being able to fly)
Her and Pit share a very interesting dynamic, is initially portrayed as a mentor and student or sometimes even as a goddess and a pupil/servant, later on they are shown to be friends and they are as close as they’ll have to a family.
This is kinda why I like Dark pit, he obviously cares about Palutena, but he clearly wants to be free and independent.
Is just an one-off comment that Palutena makes at a time where they didn’t know if Dark pit posed a threat or if he was dangerous, but I have to wonder how Pit felt about the whole situation. With Dark pit expressing how he has always felt and Palutena deeming him as wicked and destructive. That gotta hurt, specially with how fired up Pit gets through Dark pit’s boss fight.
this is why Palutena thanking him at the end of the chapter in the Jp version is even more meaningful. I wonder why they chose to cut it in the English version.
I think this is why I grew to like Dark pit’s character so much. In spite of his little screen time, he reveals a lot about Pit and has a very interesting dynamic with all of the cast, specially because he stays as an outside observer. And at the crucial moments where he decides to step in, says a lot about him and Pit’s character. At his core he is still Pit.
Sorry for the long ask!
Hiiii! Long ask is no problem, just prepare for a long answer!!
So… Palutena. In the English version of the game, she just… comes across as mean. It’s not even that she’s a troll, which can be funny at times (though sometimes her jokes are in bad taste, particularly in regards to ableism). She’s dismissive, can’t take criticism, has no respect for privacy, struggles to acknowledge when she’s in the wrong—she couldn’t even say “and me” in chapter 22, she said “us” to spread the blame between everyone even though she already singled Viridi and Hades out—frequently lies via omission (“information sharing is on a strictly need to know basis” why??), and hypocritical. I’m replaying the game to make sure I remember each minor problem I have with this woman.
But I’ll give credit where credit is due!—I like her Japanese characterization a lot more. She maintains her lighthearted, almost trickster personality while not being an asshole about it, and overall treats people (especially Pit) with significantly more respect, even if she is a bit more formal about everything.
Her character arc is definitely interesting, but it’s sad that it never really got its closure. The subtext (to me) was that she went from caring about Pit because she needs him to caring about him more as an individual… and yet the way it goes about showing that (especially chapter 22) isn’t different than how she would’ve acted at the beginning, or at least the English version of the game never really makes that clear.
Dark Pit and Palutena are fascinating to me. What she did in chapter six made sense to a point, but her whole monologue about his “inherent wickedness” was lowkey wild after they JUST said that they weren’t going to side with the group of people actively going out of their way to kill people. Yet Dark Pit does care about Palutena and her wellbeing, and their emotional turmoil because of it is kinda neat. They even help her just for the sake of helping her (don’t believe their lies‼️ they have a kind heart) in chapter 21 and even kinda 20.
For the 6th paragraph, I’m reminded that Pit really truly hated Dark Pit for the beginning of the game. In the Japanese version, he was far kinder to him in Chapter 9–but in the English, even when they are in the same side for Chapter 9, he treats them with contempt. Which… I’ll be honest, is kinda something that makes me want to grab Pit by his shoulders and shake him. He gets better, of course, but for Chapter 6, Pit doesn’t see Dark Pit as person with real emotions at all—they are just the broken, twisted Copy.
FOR THE LAST PART ☝️ I ❤️ DARK PIT SOOO MUCH‼️ MY FREAK‼️‼️ their little screen time, which can be annoying at times, is honestly so integral for certain perceptions of their character. them staring as an outside observer for extended periods of time is also really interesting when it comes to dynamics, like you’ve said. as I’ve mentioned, them appearing for chapter 20 solidifies their opinion on Palutena, that they care about her but feel there’s no healthy way for them to maintain any sort of relationship due to the power imbalance.
Idkkkkk not entirely sure what this ask is about but I ❤️ YAPPING SOOOO
Lowkey haven’t posted in a while so here’s a drawing where I mashed different art styles such as blending, not blending, un perfect lines, and what nots.
