I would never post but I can't stand it anymore.
I think I found my problem. If you love canon, you can't stand fandoms for a long time. In every topic and sense.
The issue I'm going to talk about here is not Countryhumans or another non-canon fandom. I'm still cold to CH.
When I love any work (cartoon, game, anime, etc.), I love it with the canon. I agree with and care about the canon. There may be exceptions, but generally? Still yes.
This is the core of the work. That's what it wants to show. The producers and many other types of employees behind them have contributed to these works. And sometimes, rejecting the canon sounds like an insult to the work and to them. To me too. I have a high sense of empathy.
Of course, you are free to criticize certain parts of a work. You are free to use your creativity and try or predict new OCs, AUs, lore, scenarios and possibilities. But getting too obsessed with these and then forgetting, rejecting, or forcing them to be canon is truly terrible. If you can't accept the work with its canon, why are you even a fan? To me, this doesn't count as being a fan. To me, this isn't appreciation. It’s just taking someone else's characters and turning them into toys for your own fantasy world. Especially when it comes to toxic people and when the issue reaches toxic levels. I will not be polite about this at all.
Furthermore, there is a difference between loving something and accepting it. You are free not to love it, but you must accept it. Canon is canon. Especially if the canon itself isn't genuinely flawed or bad. (Generally, I am not a die-hard defender or fanatic; I am always aware that there can be exceptions to everything.) You can accept the canon and consume or produce fanon content (whether it fits the canon or not) at the same time. That is the healthy way. But I don't know if toxic people are just more visible or crowded on the internet now; I always see people who are too busy in their own mindscape and forget reality. They are especially common in certain places. I won't name any specific fandom here. I don't want them to find me. I’m already a silent consumer in most fandoms anyway and I still don’t want to take the risk. I have zero tolerance for anyone who can't communicate properly or handle criticism. As I said before, one of the most important ways to see if a community is decent is to check whether they can communicate properly and handle criticism.
After saying all this, you might ask me, 'Then do you never do fanon things, or do you hate them?' No. The problem is not the fanon itself; it's that things go too far in some aspects and become toxic, which usually happens in fandoms and fanon. Is that a lie?
I have a specific habit and I don't know if anyone else has it too. Whenever I am going to create fanon for any content, I absolutely base it on the canon. Absolutely. Even if I slightly alter the canon in certain places, or add and remove things from it, I keep the rest true to the canon. In other words, my fanon builds upon and expands from the core nucleus. That's why it's solid and because of this, some parts of my fanon are much closer to the canon than others.
I am not an enemy of fanon; I am just against those who drift too far from the canon of the works and those who are toxic.
For example, maybe you don't like a specific ship or an event that is canon. But as I said, canon is canon, especially if it isn't really bad or problematic. We can't solve this by looking at it from a personal perspective because many things are actually subjective. But the subjective thing is not reality itself; it is what you think about reality, how you perceive reality. And reality is actually above subjectivity. We just can't always perceive it.
Admittedly, I don't even know how much of what I've said is reality and how much is subjective. I guess it's both. But my goal here is just to vent, not to make anyone like it or to prove anything. Okay, maybe a little bit to prove... but I know that at the end of the day, no matter what attitude I take or what I say, everyone will do what they want. Therefore, I don't aim to change anyone, nor should I. I would love change, truly but I can't force it. Just as no one else can force me, I can't force anyone else either. Arguments about subjective things never end anyway. At least reality is clear, maybe that's why I love canon so much. With the comfort of leaning my back against a solid place, so I can hold evidence against any situation... Also, as I said before, I think this is a matter of respect to the work and the creator. You may not think so, that's your choice. But to me, the true owners of the works are definitely the creators, not us. And I can't mindlessly consume or waste things that do not belong to me.
And just wanted to say, just because I focus so much on seriousness and reality here or rely on facts, it doesn't mean I am always rigid and purely realistic in real life. In fact, it’s quite the opposite; sometimes, or even most of the time, I am highly imaginative and a daydreamer. I just want my daydreams to stand on solid ground sometimes and to show respect to the original story.
Regardless of subject matter, I don't think I can share anything about CH anymore. Maybe later but not clear. Don't have expectations. I don't know what to do with all these fandom problems anyway and I don't want to be disconnected from real life either. It's nice to be share here, though. I'm kind of relieved for some reason. I have absolutely no intention of asking for attention. Just talk heart to heart and share my ideas. Thanks for read and answer already.
