When you remember the anti-vax movement
I first reblogged this in January, and here my ass is in March 2020 self-quarantined at home.
Ur right and u should say it

Y'all, we as a community have got to get better at dodgeball if we’re gonna keep tempting fate like that.
People who insist tumblr must be 90% LGBT because their self-curated dash is have never gotten a weird comment on a post and went to check the person's blog and discovered an entire deep subculture of christian and tradwife users reblogging anti-abortion quotes and transphobia between each other. I promise you they're on here.
this is just what it's like being on a platform that doesn't necessarily push inflammatory people and things toward you on purpose
some monday reminders :) these are up on my shop in various forms
platforms punishing users (eg removing icons on Tumblr) for not safe for work content or hiding posts behind id or facial rec walls (bluesky and discord now ig) makes for an interesting incentive to just never tag or provide warnings on any media you post with adult themes
This is Tie, she is going to eat all of the notes
reblog to feed her notes
How is she doing this
Y'all if you're American please email your politicians and senators against the parents decide act. I'm fucking begging because we're reaching a tipping point.
Quick and easy link to both find your congressmen/women and giving you a quick and easy way to copy / paste the message into it. You want to oppose. It's an act that will demand that all major OS makers integrate a direct forced age verification control into all OS.
I received a comment on this that I figured would be very helpful- it's a template for communicating with your representatives. Be sure to use it for reference
Dear Representative [Name],
I am writing to express my strong opposition to H.R. 8250 (The "Parents Decide Act"). As your constituent and a concerned citizen, I believe this bill introduces unprecedented risks to digital privacy and security.
Specifically, I am alarmed by:
SEC. 2(a)(1)(B): Requiring age verification to even use an operating system creates a mandatory "hardware lockout" that ends anonymous computing and forces users to hand over sensitive identification data to major corporations just to power on their devices.
SEC. 2(a)(3): Mandating that OS providers create a system for all app developers to access verification data is a massive security vulnerability. This effectively creates a centralized API of user identities accessible to thousands of third-party developers, many of whom may lack adequate data protection.
This bill does not protect children; it creates a centralized surveillance infrastructure at the OS level. I urge you to protect the privacy of your constituents and vote NO on H.R. 8250.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
[Your Zip Code]
This is a hell that us down under in Australia are already living in, and it’s not even effective at what it claims to do in protecting children.
Given that, in the wake of this mandatory identification policy, my country seems to be moving to hand over its citizens biometric data, like fingerprints, Face ID files, and identification documents, over to the USA and to ICE to maintain the visa free travel (ESTA) we have, I strongly urge any US resident to send these emails, or make calls.
But if you can’t do that, the most powerful thing you can do is spread the word. Tell your friends, family, coworkers, anyone who can help.
My reach will likely be small, and so I don’t know if this will mean very much in the grand scheme of things, but I cannot stand to see this tracking happen to another population as it did to mine.
And if you think it won’t affect you, it will. All anonymity goes out the window when your accounts can be linked via your personal ID
I wish you all luck in preventing this act from going through.
I spent an hour making none pizza with left beef in tomodachi life
gonna be real if websites demand photo ID I will simply drop them one by one as they ask. like this is how I am set free
I’m just saying if Daniel Radcliffe, the literal protagonist of the Harry Potter franchise since the age of ten years old, was able to disavow JK Rowling and move on from the HP universe then actually what the fuck is anyone else’s excuse. There is no one else on the planet who can say their entire childhood was HP more than that guy and he still cared about trans people more than the average tumblr user who says “we’re protesting by making all her characters queer and trans!!” like you can do better. You should do better.
All computer safety ever for the past 30 odd years: "if you go on the internet — especially if you're under 18 — lie about everything. Lie about your name. Lie about your age. Give as little information away about yourself as you possibly can. Obfuscate, falsify, and omit anything and everything as otherwise They Will Get Your Ass. Actually, avoid it in the first place if you can altogether."
All computer safety(?) since like 2020: "it's imperative we make every 8 year old scan a passport before letting them use their LeapFrog™️. Always-on connectivity required."
"...although the change was expected to affect only 3% of users, “this could amount to 2m devices rendered obsolete according to some estimates, potentially generating over 624 tons of e-waste”."
Up to 2m e-readers made before 2013 will no longer be able to download new titles
And a chaser, for those interested:
Amazon is ending support for older Kindles, but you still have easy ways to keep reading—no upgrade required.
if you feel a gut negative reaction to the terms unhoused and unsheltered I'd recommend reading about the Native origins of the terms instead of brushing it off as "corporate sanitization"
I think people would, in general, benefit from pausing and taking a moment to research + ask questions before making reactionary assumptions about language
I don't care I'm not un housed someone peeled the shell off me over and over like shucking an oyster
Wow. You're a bitch
Homeless people deciding they don't want to be called unhoused matters more than "okay but this isn't corporate sanitization bc the people who did it weren't white"
I was homeless and I also prefer the term homeless. You can prefer the term while not being an ass and centering yourself on a post talking about the native roots of the term un housed. Also if you bothered to click the link and read it, then you would know the Native Americans who created it were unhoused. If you dont like the term don't use it. But don't shit on others who do. You aren't the only homeless person who's opinion matter.

Out of curiosity, I ran some quick numbers on Goncharov and compared the top-level statistics of that fandom vs AO3 as a whole. Since Goncharov isn't real and therefore doesn't have any baggage from its production, just whatever fans decided on for the purposes of a joke, I thought there would be more focus on the women than the men, and I was right. Rounding for readability's sake: Goncharov is 40% F/F, 36% M/M, 16% F/M, compared to 10%, 48%, and 25% of AO3 (Gen, Multi, and Other are comparable -- 20%, 4%, 3% vs 18%, 5%, 4%).
I didn't pull any real data to compare these for because it wasn't easy, but Katya is the highest-tagged character at 59% of works, Goncharov the second-highest at 51%, and Sofia third at 40%. Sofia/Katya is the fandom juggernaut at 41% of all Goncharov works. In contrast, the highest three characters on the Archive as a whole that aren't OC or Reader are Harry Potter, Tony Stark, and Dean Winchester, the first girl being Hermione Granger at #6; and the first 9 or 11 ships (depending how you count Aziraphale/Crowley) are all M/M and we don't hit an F/F ship until #44 (Kara/Lena, Supergirl).
I thought it was interesting! When fujin are creating a fandom wholesale out of a shoe and a joke and a dream, we clearly love women characters and want to write about them. 💜

It's even more interesting because the media it is drawing from has a few excellent actresses and female roles but is largely a sausagefest. There's no specific pressure from a production shafting the women, but many of the models for what would be in a movie like this are men.
