A slightly late halfway update on @2026-book-bingo - a bit slower than the first quarter and not looking great for me getting a bingo or a full house, but it is definitely achieving my goal of reading more books, books I wouldn't normally read, and really just enjoying reading again.
Short story collection - Out of the ruins: the apocalyptic anthology by various authors.
Micro history - Leftovers: a history of food waste & preservation by Eleanor Barnett.
College or university setting - Legendborn by Tracy Deonn. I enjoyed this! Didn’t think I would for the first half or so, and still not convinced by the love triangle going on, but have reserved next two books from the library (I have now read the second of the trilogy and enjoyed it greatly. Halfway through the third as of writing this post.)
End of the first quarter of the year doing @2026-book-bingo - i used to read a bunch and then last year basically read like 2 books so wamted to get back into reading, and branch out a little from my usual queer YA coming-of-age books. My aim is to read as many of these as I can only with books I already own, borrowing from the library, and free deals (thank you to the TDOV sale for my reading pile for my holiday)
MC isnt human - all systems red (murderbot diaries), Martha Wells: I didnt enjoy this book as much as i thought i would from the hype. Very simplistic style of writing for me, a bit too fast paced.
Not originally published in English - the reason I jump, Naoki Higashida: originally published in Japanese, written by a non-verbal autistic 12-year-old. Very interesting to read, some generalisations that I personally don't agree with.
Sci-fi - This is how you lose the time war, Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone: very well written, very clever. I really enjoyed this book :)
Romance - Game Changer, Rachel Reid: heated rivalry got me... these are so far my only purchases, for 99p each in a sale. Light, quick reads - not deep literature but I did enjoy them, my style of book
Challenged or banned - I am halfway through the well of loneliness, radclyffe hall. Banned in the 19th century. Very long book, very dense. It is good, but is taking me so so long to read.
Others: i read the whole game changers series while off work with a chest infection. Took me like 2 days to read them all. Send help. I also read Elatsoe, Darcy Little Badger - tbh this probably could fit non-euro fantasy (Lipan Apache MC) but leaving it out for now. 10/10 book would highly recommend.
I'd like to go against the whole "Gay people make it their whole personality" thing but lowkey, I do 😭 I love being queer and I WILL post about it a lot. im so excited i cant wait!!! this mcc is the day before my birthday and i love this team. the day teams started coming out i went "i really hope owen is in a good team for mcc" because. like. birthday mcc but not actually on my birthday so owen lets me mod? incredible. and my prayers (/j) were answered this team is everything - obviously the aPO OWen POW duo their dynamic is great and then scott smajor who i have been watching for years and who got me into owen and then avid i got into avid from vampires and have watched a concerning about of his content since then... i cannot wait this team is gonna have the best vibes (im very normal about mcyt and mcc uh huh)
i have never cried over mcyt before and i rarely cry over media at all but OWENGEJUICETV and his STEWPID EVIL BORGER FINALE couldnt possibly let that stand
trauma over a lil guy pretending to be a vampire in a block game aside, vampires smp was an incredible smp, and owens pov was incredible. every action was in character (yes even the ones i hated why did avid have to die) the monologues were geat and the EDITING OH MY GOD THE EDITING it took him so so long but it was worth every second. and of course cannot go without mentioning ravel's art (raveltag taggelravel ily youre the bestest) the flashbacks the cinematics the ending made this so much better <3. owen always cooks with the roleplay-heavy smps and this one was no different (but please can we have silly goofy vibes next time)
this series will definitely be one i rewatch (and not just because i was watching the finale while being 1 of 5 mods in a 6k youtube chat with no slowmode ability) but maybe in a bit once i have bought some more tissues and recovered a bit. and maybe bullied owen into giving us the good ending surely a mod strike will work this time surelyyyy

I was 2 weeks into making this when new character art was released, so some designs may not match perfectly; but here is 3 weeks of drawing and half a day of editing in one 50-second video. ok omg i saw lizzie (n joel n a lot of other ccs) at twitchcon and like we could tell she was pregnant (how they kept it a secret i will never know she was like 6-7 months and showing) so i kinda knew this was coming. But. The baby is so cute she is so tiny and im so pleased for joel and lizzie (in the least parasocial way possible) and im glad they chose to share this but i also hope they never feel pressured to share anything more than they are comfortable with wrt their daughter (me n the other owen mods had a bit of a freak out in backrooms over how cute she is mid-stream very disruptive /lhj)

We start with toni grappled by siggy he is mind controlled by the creepy spooky sword oh dear
"Do you think he [haveren] is going to let you do that" no lmao that god is so over-protective
Oop now toni is dead and cricket is strangled
Then toni is not dead
Willow has taken out the sword and is trying to mentally fight the creepy sword - very nice description though (46min) stabs the sword in the ground and vines grow up
Cricket pulls out the immovable rod and puts it where siggy is holding him up by the neck so he can't let go stupid self-sacrificing grung
Willow is now asking haveren to help
Cricket said "trust me" oh no oh dear
I dont like this
The horse is out!!!
