Nate was immediately relieved that his answer hadn’t completely offended the wedding planner. That, or she was extremely skilled at hiding any offense. When he saw the frown begin to form on her face, he immediately wanted to put her at ease, a side effect of his own work. “We did…but it’s fine now. It’s been a couple of years now,” he assured her, though of course that was a little white lie. It wasn’t totally fine. “What about you, though? Are you still working with Jessica?”

          WHEN HE SAID it was fine now, that they had been divorced for a couple of yours, luciana’s pout remained firmly in place. “ there is no shame in divorce -- nor is there any shame in still being hurt by it, even if it has been years. “, the brunette reminded him, her pout now turning into a small, hopefully reassuring smile. the last thing she wanted him to feel, was judged. “ was she not the one for you ? “, luciana asked, only to quickly add: “ -- if you don’t mind me asking, of course. i don’t mean to be nosy. “. she felt bad for the man, he used to be so excited about his marriage -- she remembered very distinctively. “ me ? oh -- i have my own business now, actually. jessica taught me all there is to know. i couldn’t have done it without her, really. “, luna explained, smile growing a bit fonder.

His confidence was infectious and Rowan found herself grinning back at him, feeling actually excited about maybe taking on a bigger hill– or maybe she could even do it on her own! When he assured her that he had her and said they were half way down already, her jaw dropped. “Seriously?” she questioned, unable to stop herself from glancing behind her to see. That simple action, turning her attention away from her skiis and Mattias disoriented her. One of her feet, with the long skii attached, turned with her, tucking under the other one and making her body rock unsteadily. Her eyes widened and her grip on the other tightened, “Shoot, sorry! Oh god, I–” she started apologizing rapidly and trying her best to remain upright and not falling down into the snow– or worse, right into the very helpful guy. 

            “ SERIOUSLY. “, MATTY REPLIED, his smile still bright on his features -- it was wonderful to see how her excitement grew with her confidence. giving classes in skiing might not be his usual job, but he enjoyed it when the students were people like rowan -- people who were eager to learn and enthusiastic as well. though, as she looked behind her, mattias’ eyes went wide and he could alreayd see this going wrong -- “ no, no, rowan, try to stay focused -- “, the man tried to salvage the situation but it as too late. she was already starting to rock on her skiis and it took every strength he had and bit of hand / foot coordination to make sure they both remained upright. “ it’s okay. “, the man eventually let out as the situation seemed to be back under control. “ just... try to stay focused. “, matty reminded her, chuckling now as he shook his head.

Nate was used to the range of reactions that he received when he told someone that he had eloped with his ex-wife. It ranged from muted horror (”how could you not want a large wedding?”) to envious sighs, but as soon as the word left his lips, it dawned on him that to a wedding planner it might be entirely different. So he gave her a sheepish smile, “We just couldn’t wait. We had waited so long while we were finishing up at university,” he told her, as if that explained it all. “And my…ah…ex-wife had started to panic a little at all of the fanfare.”

             NOTICING HIS SMALL smile, luciana figured that maybe this wasn’t the easiest topic for him -- so she didn’t want to press on it too much. “ a-ha, i see ! you were just... too excited. “, the young woman reasoned, offering him a kind smile. even though this was luna’s field of expertise and her monthly wage basically depended on marriages, at the end of the day wedding planners just want their clients to be happy... and if eloping and a small gathering made them happy, then who was luna to complain about it ? however, as he mentioned his ex-wife, a frown formed on her features. “ oh... oh no, you guys... you split up ? “, she wondered carefully, hoping to not be too direct or personal here. “ i’m sorry, if you don’t want to talk about it... you don’t have to, of course ! “.

Rowan nodded her head as Matty did and whe he began to slowly move his skiis, her gaze immediately flew to his feet. She tried to mimic the action, though where his movements were smooth, hers were like stop motion. Yet she did feel surprisingly secure– he wasn’t about to send her flying down the mountain. She looked back at him, her lips curving up into another smile, a little more shy now that they actually started going. “This is…this is kind of fun…” she admitted, “I feel like I’m not doing much here though…so please don’t let me go.”

           MATTIAS COULD NOTICE her insecurity on the skiis -- but of course there was no surprise there. he had hardly ever seen a first time skiier do amazing and be confident. everyone had to learn at some point. when she pointed out that it was kind of fun, the  man couldn’t help but chuckle. “ you already think this is fun ? oh you are going to love the real deal, then ! “, the man reassured her, eyebrows raising in a hopeful manner. “ don’t worry -- i got you. “, matty told her, lips still curled up into a smile. “ see -- we are already halfway down the slope. “.

Ines’s face lit up in surprise when she heard someone calling out to her. Two gloved hands circled her fresh hot chocolate, but after turning around she dug in her pocket to find one of her back-up gloves missing. “Oh, gosh, thank you so much,” she hummed gratefully, one hand outstretched to take the now-wet glove back. She offered the woman a goofy smile. “You can never have too many gloves, right?”

            AS THE WOMAN extended a hand to her, luciana noticed it already had a glove and as she lifted her gaze a bit she saw that her other hand was gloved as well. “ oh -- you already got gloves ! “, the girl pointed out, giggling as she placed the other glove in her hand. “ that is true -- these sneak out on us too easily, right ? “, luciana wondered, scrunching up her nose a little.

Iris happily grabs her gloves from the other’s hand, a grateful smile on her lips although the expression in her face is still of panic when she notices said family friends walking in their direction. “Oh, no, of course not.” She rushes the words out and realizes the woman hadn’t recognized her — what a goddamn relief. But that’s when the stupid idea comes to her. “Look, can I ask you to do something for me? I know it’s going to sound really weird and it’s totally cool you’re not into it,” Iris says while tucking a strand of her behind her ear. “Could you pretend we’re together? Like, together together?” She looks back and watches them getting closer. “I’ll explain everything later and repay you with tons of baked treats, maybe?” She offers.

           WHEN THE GIRL asked whether she wanted to do something for her, luciana smiled and bent forward a bit as if the other was going to ask her something secretive. “ of course, ask away. “, luna said with a smile and a nod, a curious look in her eyes as she kept her attention focused on the other. her question, however, came quite unexpected and it honestly caused a chuckle to fall from luciana’s lips. but clearly, she was serious -- and that is why luna quickly turned serious as well. “ together together ? alright... alright, why not. “, the young woman agreed with a small nod, offering her a smile. “ what do i do ? “, words whispered, as if she were scared someone would hear.

           “ ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT. “, THE woman replied with a chuckle as she raised her hands. “ you know i would always join you, quinn -- whether i think it’s a good idea or not. “, luna reminded her friend, nudging her gently. when the girl said she had dragged someone new into her shenanigans, luciana’s eyebrows raised and a grin tugged at her lips. “ really ? who ? are they nice ? do they live around here ? “, the unintentional waterfall of questions tumbling from her lips.

Felicity continued to glance between the woman and her drawing shyly but at the woman’s response, Felicity’s smile grew. Nate gave his head a nod, thinking back to the time when he and Vivian had gone to begin planning their planning, a faint smile on his lips. “Oh, we thought you were great,” he assured her, but her question clicked in his mind. He chuckled slightly, “Well…we never went through with the actual ceremony…we ended up just eloping.” He almost felt embarrassed admitting this to the woman that had been helping them plan the wedding back in the day. 

         THE LITTLE GIRL was adorable and luciana could not help but keep her eyes fixed on her a tad bit longer. however, when nate spoke up again, luciana turned her head with a smile still in place. “ oh, thank you very much -- i didn’t do a lot yet, back then, aside from fetching coffees or bagels. but i learned a lot from her. “, she said, her smile having grown a tad bit wider at the compliment. however, when he said that they ended up eloping, luna’s brows rose a bit as she nodded slowly. “ i see ! did you change your mind about wanting a big wedding or couldn’t you wait any longer ? “, the young woman wondered, smile never falling as she crossed her arms on the table top, eyes fixed on the man.

“ Truthfully, I should’ve seen it coming but alas the roof had a fit and avalanched all over me,” James exclaimed as he barged into the ski lodge, shedding off his snow covered layers, putting little care into how it might’ve looked. At the moment, his only concern was getting warmth. 

          LUCIANA HAD NOT come down to whistler to ski, but since she was there... it would be quite a shame to not dig up her old skiing talent up again. it had been quite a wonderful day on the piste, so when she returned to the ski lodge she felt refreshed and relaxed. that was, until a guy walked in, covered in snow. “ oh god ! are you okay ? “, luna wondered, eyes immediately beginning to scan for potential injuries. “ that must have been anything but pleasant. “.

         There was something about Whistler that just made Ryan feel at home. Perhaps it was the countless holidays she spent there or the now monthly trips she took for work. Their company used it to their advantage as they didn’t need to get a working permit for Ryan whenever she went up to the village. With her double double coffee in one hand, Ryan pulled out her phone with the other to check her email. “Hmm, work just sent me two tickets to Vallea Lumina. You don’t know anyone would wanna go do you?” she asked, looking up at the person standing next to her. 

           WHEN MATTIAS HAD stopped by tim horton’s for his morning coffee, he had not expected to be offered a free ticket -- well, kind of. “ i mean, you’re looking at someone. “, the young replied, chuckling gently as he pointed at himself before taking a sip from his steaming hot coffee. “ i don’t want to put myself out there like this, of course, but, you know... i would never say no to a free ticket to vallea lumina. it’s beautiful. “, matty explained his case a bit further, offering her a kind smile.

       there’s  plenty  of  benefits  to  being  the  eldest  of  his  siblings  with  a  steady  income,  and  one  of  those  happens  to  be  the  fact  that  he’s  able  to  have  a  room  to  himself  in  the  crystal  lodge.  it  does  come  with  its  downsides  ―  more  so  when  his  brother  banged  on  his  door  to  say  the  rest  of  them  are  going  skiing.  now,  marley  isn’t  a  grinch  who’d  make  a  fuss  for  opting  out  for  reasons  pertaining  to  his  knee,  but  he  was  looking  forward  to  spending  time  with  his  family.  though,  now  it  appeared  that  he  would  be  entertaining  himself  until  either  lunch  or  dinner  came  around.  which  is  how  marley  soon  found  himself  leaning  against  the  facade  of  tim  hortons  once  realization  sunk  in  that  there  was  no  available  seating.  ❝  you  know,  ❞  he  began,  the  reddened  tips  of  his  fingers,  not  covered  from  his  fingerless  gloves,  picked  at  the  carboard  heat  protectant  sleeve  in  an  attempt  to  hoard  the  exuding  warmth  of  the  cup.  ❝  at  this  point  i  don’t  even  think  i’m  in  the  mood  for  a  hot  chocolate.  i  just  needed  something  to  warm  my  hands  up.  ❞  marley  chuckled,  watching  the  puff  of  his  breath  evaporate  quickly  into  the  air  and  turning  to  the  person  beside  him,  amusement  etched  across  his  features.  ❝  what  about  you  ??  hopefully  you  have  more  exciting  plans  for  the  day  than  me  'cause  this  it  for  me.  ❞

            MATTIAS ENJOYED IT whenever marlow was around. the guy may be a tad bit younger than him, but to matty he was like a younger brother he never had ( sure, he had his sister -- but that still wasn’t quite the same ). a smike tugged at mattias’ lips when marlow said he did not actually want to drink the hot chocolate anymore. “ i’ll offer you a sweet deal -- you get my gloves, and i will finish that delicious hot chocolate for you. how does that sound ? “, the man asked, mainly teasing as he raised a brow and smirked, finger pointing at the steaming hot cup in the other guy’s hands. when he was asked about his day, mattias sighed as he thought for a second. “ i got two classes to teach later, but that’s about it -- you can tag along, if you want ? “, matty offered, smiling at his friend.

            MATTIAS COULDN’T HELP but chuckle upon hearing the guy’s words. “ i am sure everyone means well but it gets a little tedious after a while to always get the same questions. “, he replied with a sigh and a grin still on his features. he hooked his thumbs behind the leashes of the backpack before asking: “ what questions do you usually get ? “, he wondered, head tilting to the side. “ i’m sorry for that -- that’s on me. “, matty replied, chuckling and shaking his head when the guy said he had forgotten what he was going to say.

His expression and question made Rowan immediately decide that she liked him. Anyone that didn’t immediately start pulling her on a pair of skiis are alright in her book. So she grinned at him, “Okay…okay. I’m definitely ready.”

             WITH HER HANDS firmly in his, matty smiled and nodded when the girl said she was definitely ready. “ alright then -- here wo go. “, mattias informed her. he began to slowly move his skiis from left to right, getting them into motion while making sure he would not go down the slope too fast. just nice and controlled as he made sure rowan was steady on her own skiis. “ see -- this isn’t too bad. “, he smiled as they were going down, him with his back facing first, eyes focused on the girl and her skiis and back up to her face.

           “ MY LIPS ARE sealed, i promise. “, matty reassured the woman as he motioned to his lips as if he were locking them, before throwing the invisible key over his shoulder. but he didn’t keep them locked for very long, taking another sip of the coffee quickly now that it was still hot. “ oh -- no, no... i wanted to sketch the sunrise. it gets quite beautiful around here. “, the young man explained with a smile and a nod.

Boots latched onto the board. Fresh snow coating the slopes. Samson was as ready as he would ever be. Attempting to lift himself to a standing position, he reached behind him to push the ground for momentum. “Alright, alright.” A chuckle dissipated into the crisp air around them. “Bent knees and fall on my ass if need be.” He smiled; legs slightly wobbly beneath him. “Um, do I just lean forward to move?”

        THE GUY WAS clearly a rookie, a bit wobbly on the board as soon as he was up on his feet. it caused a smile to tug at mattias’ lips. “ perfect -- with those words in your head, nothing can go wrong. “, he replied, bringing the tops of his index finger and thumb together whilst giving the man a smile. “ alright, just follow my motions, okay ? so before moving, you have to get vertical with your board. so you just... jump once... twice... “, matty explained as he hopped twice with the board before he was vertical. “ ready ? this is a small slope, so nothing can really go wrong. but if you doubt... you know it, fall back. “.

“That’s okay, not here for the classes.” He said with a small laugh, leaning on the doorframe; to be honest, he felt pretty anxious and ridiculous about being here, but he already did two unsuccessful rounds to the ice rink and got nowhere, so being here was pretty much his last shot. Probably. Or he could just go back to the rink for the third time? “I was actually looking for you? You’re pretty much the only person that I remember that was at the ice rink three days ago? I left my book there and no one left it at the office there so I assumed, maybe you saw it? Red cover with a scratch on the front?” He caught himself nervously fidgeting with the sleeve of his hoodie; okay, this was probably a terrible idea, coming here. “But if you didn’t see it, that’s fine, I’ll just… look elsewhere I guess and sorry for bothering you in this case.”

             WHEN THE GUY said he wasn’t around for classes, matty nodded slowly. once the backpack was on his back, he hooked his thumbs through the leashes briefly as he heard the other out. “ well -- you found me. “, matty replied with a smile, opening his arms as to say ‘ here i am ‘, polite smile on his features. as he mentioned being at the rink three days ago, his face suddenly seemed familiar -- that is right ! matty had seen him before. in fact, he had seen him a couple of times at the ice skating rink. “ oh, yeah ! i remember you. “, she smiled, only to snap his fingers before slipping the backpack back off. “ and, i think i got what you are looking for. “, searchign through the contents of the bag only to find the book. “ this yours ? “. it fit the description, so mattias was optimistic.
