Crass – Nagasaki Nightmare ⁄ Big A Little A
everyone's heard of this, right? per ap article of apr 8, 2026:
Jacobs went on to record more than 10,000 concerts, with increasingly sophisticated equipment, over four decades in Chicago and other cities. Now a group of devoted volunteers in the U.S. and Europe is methodically cataloging, digitizing and uploading them one by one. The growing Aadam Jacobs Collection [link to internet archive] is an internet treasure trove for music lovers, especially for fans of indie and punk rock during the 1980s through the early 2000s, when the scene blossomed and became mainstream. The collection features early-in-their-career performances from alternative and experimental artists like R.E.M., The Cure, The Pixies, The Replacements, Depeche Mode, Stereolab, Sonic Youth and Björk.

genuine question, not snark: when did political groups’ understanding of the concept of a “general strike” shift from “concurrent labor actions intended to bring a big chunk of the economy to a halt until demands are met” to “short term or even singe day protest”? I thought the whole point of a “strike” is that it lasts until your demands are met or you can’t keep going anymore, which makes it a substantially different and often more effective (though often more difficult) form of politician action than like a daylong protest or rally. But people don’t seem to use the word consistently that way nowadays.
We know, but are you gonna pay my rent while we strike? Are you going to get my medicine, and feed me while I strike?
Under the boot of corporate oppression there are logistical difficulties that make a proper strike functionally impossible. Unless we riot and steal, it's not likely the average member of the proletariat can afford the strike, let alone survive the simple fact the government and mega corps can literally afford to starve us out
Every general strike in history has faced this problem.
Unions have strike funds that help cover the time without income, but in general strikes many people won't have access to a strike fund, so what they need instead is solidarity.
They need people to show up for each other. Sharing resources, sharing skills, mass-resisting evictions. Every general strike has relied on people bringing each other medication, cooking for each other, baby sitting for each other and showing up for each other out the landlord.
A strike isn't a protest, it's a battle about who can hold out the longest. How long can the lonely people at the top hold on when we stop serving them - and how long can we hold out by taking care of each other?
why don't we riot and steal, that's what they're doing to us with state violence and wage theft
every time a video essayist uses "anarchy" to mean chaos or disorder I stop watching
