Ya know... For years I was annoyed with how a lot of the time you can't say shit is bad. Like, if if a movie was bad, or a game being bad or whatever. Because you'd get people- not even fans mind you, just randies coming in out of nowhere being like "I'm uncomfortable when not about me?"/"let people enjoy things" and like....fuck off. There's plenty of things that are absolutely terrible but have some charm about them to where even if bad, you can enjoy. It's fine to say "this thing sucks". It's okay for things to be called bad when they're objectively bad. It's okay to let people hate things.

But now, for the past few years it's been like this but for people, and it's always the same fuckin' discourse shield that only actually brings in as many mindless haters for shit as the boring bland blind defenders. Like, without naming names, I'm sure some people come to mind here with just how fuckin' common this shit's been, but just for example if someone winds up being famous in twitter; they post regularly (maybe fuckin' too much), they have a massive audience that enjoys them for their hobby/skill in hobby, and at some point they start saying/doing obnoxious shit that is inevitably gonna rub a lot of people the wrong way.

BUT the moment those folk who are bothered, even if fans, speak up with anything other than praise, commenting "oh that's a bad take" or "yeesh this is getting annoying now", shit hits the fan. Because see, you can't say anything bad about that famous person. They're basically a sacred cow. Nobody is allowed to be called cringe or annoying or fucking stupid when they are. And 99% of the time if things are whipped up big enough into a shitstorm, it winds up having every discussion boiled down to "oh they hate this person because they're a furry/trans/non-binary". ARE there bigots that step in and say horrible things and join in the conversation? Yeah. But they're also as braindead as the blind defenders, and are there mostly to stir the pot than contribute anything other than mindless hate. Those people should be rightfully ignored, not hoisted up and amplified to allow the over-simplification of things to dominate why this shit even started in the first place. It shouldn't mutate the discourse and move it in a direction that makes it sound so simple and turn into some kind of "oh OBVIOUSLY only BIGOTS have a problem with [person]" thing.

Sometimes, it can be summed up why something happened to cause strife with folks, but not for the reasons you think. Like maybe that big follower count'd person is just fuckin' annoying. Maybe they DO have dogshit opinions on things. Maybe they were a cunt and said/did something wrong for once and an [everybody disliked that] moment happened. It isn't about their orientation or gender or skin color or whatever thing like that. Fuck off. Stop making EVERY god damn discussion turn into that.

the Barbie movie was such a weird experience because it is genuinely entertaining and funny but the metaphor presented is so bungled. like okay the whole movie’s point is “women can do whatever they want and don’t have to be second place to men” which I agree with. The metaphor they use to do this is Barbie world treating kens with an exaggerated objectification mirroring women’s treatment historically. Which, okay, that sounds fine. That makes sense. Until the Kens take over Barbie world and that’s…bad? The oppressed group rising up and taking power is the primary ticking time bomb of the film so like what are you saying? Because the words you’re saying are “girl power” but the metaphor you’re presenting is “stay in your place”

Also the way this problem is solved is barbie coming back to Barbie world with her real world friends and expounding a bunch of female specific frustrations to her brainwashed Barbie friends who have zero context for any of those frustrations because they’ve lived their whole lives as the ruling class. Like I get it. I understand what you’re saying. I also understand this film relies heavily on metaphor. This makes no sense with the internal logic you’ve presented.

The whole thing ends on a kind of snarky “Kens will get more rights when women in the real world get more rights” statement and the whole thing kinda just reeks of the same “take action!!! (but only to a socially acceptable degree)” subtext that The Batman had.

The “kens are taking over and that’s bad” kind of speaks to the immutable quality that people think the political climate has. Like okay obviously the reasoning for why it’s bad is because the kens are men and men rule the real world and create problems for women and blah blah blah

The movie is just a movie and shouldn't have much thought put into it. Because when you do analyze shit and try to find a message, all it shows is we don't have an actual 'patriarchy' in the real world but still INSISTS that there always was one and things never changed since the 50's, all men are stupid greedy idiots who shouldn't be in control of anything, and unironically pull a 'all animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others'. Just swap 'animal' with 'gender' and man, kinda fucked up there.

This movie feels like it should have come out in 2016, given how many people came out (and probably still think) saying "if you rooted for Ken, then you missed the point of the movie and probably hate women".
