I mean really think about it, knights are warriors. They’re strong, they’re smart, but they aren’t leaders. Kings are leaders, queens are leaders, and Knights work for them. To be a warrior you have to be fighting for something. Or someone.

And consider for a moment that Ralsei is a prince of the dark. Not a king, a prince. We don’t know what or who created him, but whatever it is, it’s still alive.

There’s another ruler. Somewhere in the dark. Something pulling the strings. Someone making them ring.

I’ve been thinking about Ralsei’s dialogue if you use Scarlixir on him, trying to think about what it could mean, and I realized that it actually alludes to his ongoing character arc in a super interesting way.

Through the first few chapters of the game Ralsei is always trying to put a positive spin on everything even at his own expense. Whether it be Susie fighting everything, or simply food he doesn’t like. He always tries to say something positive about it.

But his response to Scarlixir is simply that it tastes gross. He still somewhat tries to put a positive spin on it by comparing it to medicine, but this is actually huge if you think about it. It doesn’t hint at any lore, which is what I was trying to decipher initially, but it shows how Ralsei is developing his own tastes, his own personality, allowing himself to feel negative emotions that he normally tries to suppress for those around him.

It might seem simple on the surface, but Ralsei allowing himself to openly say he doesn’t like a drink is a subtle and deceptively effective way represent his development, and leads into Chapter 5 where he outwardly and freely expresses more of his negative feelings.

It also helps that trying different drinks is what Ralsei says he wants to try as a hobby.

The two bonded over their shared history of being betrayed by those they once considered friends, and shunned by humanity for their monstrous appearances. The two were inspired by each other, and together they formed an adventuring guild of their own.

One for monsters who wished to become heroes.

My main problem with KPDH is that it clearly has SO much cut from its story. Like you can feel while watching it that things are moving too fast and we were supposed to see more before the climax. Especially Mira and Zoey not getting backstories THAT WERE MEANT TO BE IN THE MOVIE, and the way that Celine disappears for most of the movie only showing up for Rumi’s big character development moment. I think there’s more that can and should be explored.

Which is why I think the movie should get a Netflix tv series. If the Boss Baby can get one then it would be insulting if KPDH couldn’t.
