Happy new year 2022 🌱
due to personal reasons I deeply wish that this autumn feels entirely like rebirth
babes is there anyone who isnt hanging on by the thinnest thread known to man rn or are we all just going thru it this week
ik some people don’t understand exactly how much anxiety can irrationally prevent you from doing things, even easy things, or how much it can completely stunt your life… it’s garbage tbh and it’s not the same as being nervous, it’s not something you can necessarily just push through, you can be confident in some ways and terrified of other things for reasons that might not even make sense to you, and telling someone to “get over it” is practically a guarantee you’re making them feel even worse, so… yeah
As a mass comm major, IF THERE IS SOMETHING UNJUST OR IMMORAL BEING DONE CALL YOUR LOCAL NEWS STATION THEY WILL HELP MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE
Cities and government agencies HATE bad press. This story that was told to me by the journalist that covered this, and he showed us the piece:
There was a traffic light that was set up on the far side of an overpass, but it was improperly hung so you couldn’t see the light until it was too late. There were accidents there EVERY SINGLE DAY and calls to the city did NOTHING.
Someone had the idea to call the local news station and this dude went out to see. As he was interviewing someone, there was a wreck.
Guess what happened after that piece aired?
Suddenly the city had the time to lower the traffic light and the accidents stopped.
Journalists get a bad rep, and while big stations like Fox deserve it, I think more thought should be given to who you’re actually shitting on when you say “I hate journalists.” Because we’re overworked, underpaid, constantly shit on, but we still do the job because we want to help people. All professional, prestigious journalists that I’ve met hate the government and will do whatever they can to get the information and change that’s needed. Being a journalist is a dangerous profession: at every professional convention I’ve been at there’s a fund for the families of journalists that have been killed (there’s a lot!) and a long memoriam roll.
SUPPORT LOCAL NEWS STATIONS
YES ALL OF THIS
i’ve started replacing “i want to die” with “i feel overwhelmed” in my internal monologue, which is usually more accurate and more productive
ive been working on replacing ‘im so stupid’ with ‘im so silly’ and it has the same effect!
“I can’t do this” -> This will be a challenge for me, it’s normal to feel intimidated
“I hate this” -> This is a tough situation to handle and I’m doing my best
“I hate myself” -> I’m struggling with low self esteem right now, I need to support myself as I would a friend
“I can’t believe I forgot again” -> It’s tough to balance so many things, maybe I need to let go of some of them
“They’re not going to like me” -> I don’t have to perform for anyone, my personality is valid and loveable just as is
The list could go on and on…
Redirecting the “blame” from yourself and recognizing that you are a human suffering through normal, difficult human experiences is important. Support yourself like you’d support any of your close friends if they said these things.
@itsrobinwilliams
i am so determined to fall more in love with life. intentionally romanticising the walks i am on, the birds chirping, the blooming nature around me, the water in my cup of tea turning from a light peach tone to a dark pink, the poetry i write, the things i am learning, my handwriting, dozing off while sitting in front of my window, all of it and more. I have to take a closer look at the little things that make my heart beat faster.
having to come to terms with the fact that love is not an everlasting performance in which you attempt to retain the attention of your significant other but rather a release of control and putting faith into them and trusting them to choose to stay with you no matter what you have to offer
to love and be loved is to rest
reading a poem a recipe author wrote about her mother who passed and tearing up………. thank you bread recipe for the small dose of heart and tenderness 🥺💖
@illness
why are we here? just to suffer? every 5 minutes i have to clean my glasses
since we’re out of jokes at the moment let’s just have silent reading time
when you can sense a Mood incoming and feel like a farmer standing in a field looking out at the horizon as the storm approaches like “looks like it’s gonna be a bad one, boys”
every english class ive ever had has reaffirmed my belief that english is one of the most necessary classes we have actually
actually most classes, and in general seeing people interact with media make me believe english classes are probably the most important ones i took
there really isnt a single walk of life where learning to analyze the written and spoken word (of any language) isnt important. this is how you learn to understand harmful implications in fictional media. news media. how you learn to dissect propaganda. how certain word choices (intentional or unintentional) can cause irreparable damage. how you learn to see through advertisements. how you learn the weight of people’s words. how you learn to exercise empathy if that is not something that comes naturally to you. i know im a bit insane academically but this is definitely one of the hills i willingly choose to die on
English classes teach you something that no hard science or math or computer class ever can….CRITICAL THINKING
Textual analysis is a vital skill, actually.
i could be an animal crossing villager! i’m round. i wear the same shirt every day. and i am easily befriended when the other party does anything nice for me
I only have about a dozen things to talk about that I cycle back and forth from but I am always super supportive and happy to see you!
