John Logan x graham reader series
summary: Y/N Graham has always been surrounded by hockey players, but her bond with John Logan is different. With Garrett quietly playing matchmaker from the sidelines, the two best friends might finally realize that the greatest assist theyâll ever get is the one leading them to each other.
author's note: I know you all want more one shots, and I promise I'll write more, but this series has been so fun to write and before I knew it I had chapter 1 ready to post! So, hope you all enjoy this series, I don't know how many parts yet, but a lot more to come!
Being the twin sister of Garrett Graham meant a lot of things. It meant that you were immediately adopted into the hockey friend group. It meant that the hockey house was your second home. It also meant that people assumed you were just like Garrett. But that was far from the truth. While Garrett had this easy confidence that helped him earn his reputation on campus, you were a little more introverted. Garrett was the person people noticed, but you were the person people trusted. You had surrounded yourself with only the people you truly felt safe with. You were Hannah and Allieâs third roommate and felt a little weirded out when Hannah started dating your twin brother, but you finally came around because they really were cute together. And then there was John Logan. Being Garrettâs roommate since freshman year meant Logan had basically always been around, which meant you all got close fast. And things had been perfect staying just the way they were.
The lecture hall was already half full by the time you slipped through the door. You didnât give a second thought to your body slightly relaxing after finding Logan in your usual spot.Â
âYou're late,â Logan said without looking up from his laptop.
"I'm three minutes early."
He glanced at the clock on the wall.
"Coach says on time is late, be there five minutes early."
"Well good thing Iâm not a hockey player."
You dropped into the seat beside him, shrugging your backpack off one shoulder.
"I had to choose between brushing my hair and stopping for coffee."
"You know, some people would say good morning."
"I did." He finally looked over. "You just ignored it."
Before you could come up with a comeback, he slid a coffee cup across the desk.
"You've spent the last week complaining that your stats class is too early for human existence."
"It is." You truly were not a morning person.
"And every Wednesday you say you're going to leave ten minutes earlier so you can stop at the café."
"I mean it every Wednesday."
You wrapped both hands around the warm cup, taking a grateful sip.
"You're my favorite person."
You hated that he knew exactly how to make your mornings better. And you hated it more that you actually didnât hate somebody caring enough to think to get you coffee. Maybe because it was Logan it was okay, but you didnât think any further into it because your professor started talking nonsense about stats.
After class you and Logan walked to the dining hall together like you always do after stats class.Â
âI canât believe you actually enjoy that class.â you said after you had complained the whole time that nothing made sense.
âItâs really not as bad as you think, itâs just numbers.â
âI think itâs actually another form of torture.â
âI thought you liked math?â
âI liked calculus, what we did there was not math.â
He laughed before holding open the door to the cafeteria for you. You all approached a table where Garrett, Dean, Tucker, Allie, and Hannah were already seated. You took the seat next to Garrett and Logan sat across from you.Â
Garrett stole a fry from your plate before you could smack his hand away. âGarrett!â you whined.
âWe both know youâre not going to finish them. Iâm just helping you.âÂ
You rolled your eyes knowing he was right. Growing up with a twin meant that Garrett knew things about you before you even recognized them yourself.Â
âY/n, what did you think about the game last night?â Dean asked, referring to the hockey team beating Eastwood.
âI think Garrett needs to learn how to pass a little sooner and Dean, you need to communicate better with Tucker on the defensive line.â You said as you took another bite of your lunch.
âSo all of us but your boyfriend Logan need work huh?â Dean teased.
âHeâs not my boyfriend Dean, he just had a good game.â You argued, rolling your eyes.
âAw you think I played well yesterday?â Logan asked, looking pleased with your comment.
âDonât make it weird.â You said scrunching your face.
âIâm not making it weird, just accepting a rare compliment from you.â He replied with a grin.
âIt was one compliment.â Jeez this guy couldnât accept a compliment without his ego almost doubling.
âExactly why Iâm going to treasure it.â
âYou know what, I hate all of you all. You actually played like shit Logan.â You took a sip of your drink and sat back pouting.
Garrett pulled you into a side hug, âWe know you love us.â
âNot at this moment I donât.â You replied, fighting the smile tugging at your lips.
You went back to the dorm with Hannah and Allie after lunch. You all were currently trying to save Allie from getting back together with Sean. They had been no contact for a whole 24 hours and Allie was about to break that streak.
âAllie, will you please think about the consequences for more than five seconds?â you pleaded.
âBut what if we are meant to be? Soulmates have ruts.â she argued.
âSoulmates also know how to communicate.â you retorted.
âThey also donât hold you back from your dreams.â reminded Hannah.
âPreach, no man is worth you not becoming a movie star.â you said.
âUgh, why do you guys have to be so supportive. You make it hard for me to be compulsive.â Allie complained.
You and Hannah looked at each other. âIsnât that kind of the point of having best friends?â Hannah asked sarcastically.Â
âWeâre trying to save you from becoming a sad middle aged soccer mom in Vermont.â you add.
âOkay now that I canât get the image of me crying into a casserole dish in Vermont out of my head, maybe I wonât actually text Sean.â Allie said laughing.
âReally?â you and Hannah both ask hopefully.
âAt least not for the next twenty minutes.â Allie replied.Â
You all collapsed into a fit of giggles before getting ready for dinner at the hockey house. It was nice having girl friends that you were so close with, Garrett was never good at girl talk growing up, no matter how much you tried to teach him.
You and the girls arrive at the hockey house and settle into the Wednesday night routine youâve had for years. You go and help Tucker in the kitchen. Allie tells another story of something crazy that happened in the drama department. Hannah and Garrett sneak kisses thinking no one notices. And Dean calls them out on their PDA. Logan comes down into the kitchen after unclogging the shower drain upstairs. All is how it should be.Â
âHow come you let y/n help out with the cooking and not me?â Logan whines as he leans on the kitchen island watching you and Tucker prepare dinner.
âAre you not remembering the time you left pizza in the oven and almost burned the whole house down?â Tucker remarks without looking up from cooking the chicken.
âOr the time you burnt popcorn so bad the smoke alarm started going off?â you said with a laugh.
âOk, ok, enough with the slander. My culinary talents were too good for your kitchen anyway, Tuck.â Logan replied.
âWeâve got plenty of culinary talent between me and y/n.â Tucker argued.
âIâm starting to think you like y/n more than the rest of us.â Logan commented.
âIâd happily trade you or Dean for y/n.â Tucker said with a laugh.
You rolled your eyes, but you couldnât stop the smile that tugged at your lips. After three years, you knew better than to believe Tucker would actually trade you for them. Tucker plated the chicken and you pulled the potatoes from the oven. Everyone went through the line buffet style before settling down at the table. Garrett took his usual spot at the head of the table with you next to him and Logan across from you.Â
âTucker, these potatoes are delicious.â Dean practically moaned from the taste.
âExcuse me, I made the potatoes.â you spoke up.
âThen they actually taste awful.â Dean laughed.
âMy mother would have an aneurysm if she heard someone talking bad about the food at the table.â Tucker said glaring at Dean. âBe grateful you even got a plate.â
âI say whoever complains about the food has to do the dishes.â You said pointedly to Dean.
âI donât think Dean even knows where the dishwasher is,â said Garrett with a laugh.
After Allie and a begrudging Dean helped clear off the table, everyone settled in the living room for a movie. Garrett and Hannah took the love seat, Dean got situated in the chair in the corner, Allie and Tucker sat on one side of the couch. That left you and Logan to squeeze together at the other end of the couch.
âI am not watching Miracle for the one hundredth time.â you announced.
âAnd Iâm not watching one of your dumb romcoms.â Garrett argued.
âWell I hate to tell you but your girlfriend loves those said romcoms.â you bit back, shutting Garrett up.Â
âWhy donât we watch a horror movie?â suggested Dean.
âY/n hates horror movies.â Logan spoke up. You didnât even have time to react before the room broke out into more arguments over what movie to watch. But you stayed quiet, thinking about how Logan knew that random fact about you.Â
âHey, you okay?â Logan leaned down to ask you. âYou usually like to voice your opinion in arguments like these.âÂ
âYeah, Iâm just a little tired.â you lied, definitely not still thinking about what Logan had said. It shouldnât surprise you that he knew, it just made your heart flutter for a second.
You all finally agreed to watch some action movie that did little to keep you awake. You found yourself getting closer to Logan as the movie went on. First your shoulders touched. Then your legs ended up halfway in his lap. The next thing you knew you were asleep on his shoulder.Â
âDude sheâs a goner.â Tucker whispered over to Logan.Â
Logan glanced down at you, curled into his side, and just shrugged. âIâm fine as long as sheâs comfortable.â
The movie ended and everyone started to clear out of the room. All of the rustling woke you up and your eyes fluttered open. You snuggled closer to the source of heat you were leaning up against. The smell of pine and aftershave filled your nose before you realized you had fallen asleep on Logan. You immediately straightened up and almost bumped heads with him in the process.
âI-sorry, I didnât mean to fall asleep on you.â you said flustered and not meeting his eyes.
âDidnât bother me.â he said with a lazy smile.
âI canât believe I slept through it.â you replied, finally meeting his gaze, a hint of pink appearing on your cheeks.
âYou lasted longer than your brother.â
âGarrett fell asleep?â
âNo, but he spent the last twenty minutes kissing Hannah. I think he forgot the rest of us were sitting three feet away.âÂ
You laughed and stood up from the couch stretching, âWhere is everyone?â
âWell Iâm pretty sure Hannah and Garrett are continuing what they started up in his room.â Logan said, rolling his eyes. âAllie, Tucker, and Dean went to grab ice cream.â
âWhy didnât you wake me up?â you asked.
âYou looked like you needed the rest.â he said matter of factly.
âI feel bad you missed out on a sweet treat run.â
âDonât apologize, these abs probably wouldnât have liked the sweet treat.â
You playfully punched his abs, âThey feel pretty rock solid to me.â
âOh do they?â he asked, one eyebrow cocked upward.
âIâm leaving you weirdo.â you said laughing walking over to the front door to put your shoes on.
âAnd how exactly are you getting back?â Logan asked, pushing himself off the couch and shrugging on his jacket.
You paused, one shoe halfway on.
Logan crossed his arms, waiting.
You looked at him with an innocent smile, âWanna give me a ride?â
âThought youâd never ask.â He replied with a smirk.
You followed Logan out to his truck and settled in the passenger seat. The second the truck started, you reached for the aux chord and pulled up your Olivia Dean playlist. You cranked up the volume when âMan I Needâ came on and you started singing. You looked over and saw Logan shaking his head at you.
âOh come on, donât act like you donât love this song too.â you shouted over the music.
âI only know the words because youâve played it a million times.â he deadpanned.Â
âSo you admit you know the words, Johnny, letâs hear you sing it then.â you challenged with a glimmer in your eye.
He rolled his eyes and looked back at the road. But when the chorus came on he started singing with you. You couldnât keep a straight face at his terrible singing and started dying laughing.
âI donât know whatâs so funny. That was a Grammy-worthy performance.â he said with fake hurt in his voice.Â
âThereâs literal tears in my eyes, I donât think Iâve laughed that hard in a long time.â you replied wiping at your eyes.
âWhat can I say? You only laugh like that with me.âÂ
You guessed it was true. No one made you open up more than Logan did. Maybe it was because you had seen how much Garrett trusted him, and that made you trust him too. Or maybe it was because Logan had always made it feel easy to be yourself.
âThatâs because no one else sings as badly as you.â you easily deflected.
âWhatever helps you justify it.â he replied with a shrug.
His truck pulled up to your dorm and you thanked Logan for the ride. You got out of the truck and were about to close the door when Logan spoke up, âHey.âÂ
You turned back around to face him.
âTry and get some good sleep tonight.â
You rolled your eyes, âOkay Dad.â
âGoodnight Logan.â Â
