Who was the bravest character in Harry Potter and why?I believe the bravest man in the series was Severus Snape.I think he was one of the living proof of Albus Dumbledore's claim that "love is the most powerful force in the world".Consider this.Severus Snape practically worshiped the ground Lily walked on, hated James' guts, sympathised with Voldemort's ambitions and views.In this chaos of emotions, he made it his life's goal to protect Harry Potter who was James' son, Voldemort's mortal enemy. Why?Because he did not want Lily's sacrifice to be in vain. He loved her so much that even though Harry (who unfortunately for him was a spitting image of James , except of course his eyes) was a constant reminder that Lily chose his arch enemy over him, he nevertheless made it his life's purpose to protect The Boy Who Lived.It is widely known that Voldemort was perhaps the most powerful legilimens the world has ever seen. Even so Snape managed to double cross him, giving him the exact quantity and quality of intel which would convince the Dark Lord of his allegiance while simultaneously not jeopardizing the safety of Order of the Phoenix.Voldemort knew that Snape had feelings for Lily, as he had asked the Dark Lord to spare her life. Nevertheless Snape managed to convince Voldemort that his feeling were not genuine and that there were plenty of eligible women of suitable birth for him, therefore ruling out the possibility of him seeking revenge for her death.“Snape’s Patronus was a doe,” said Harry,“the same as my mother’s, because he loved her for nearly all of his life, from the time when they were children. You should have realized,” he said as he saw Voldemort’s nostrils flare, “he asked you to spare her life, didn’t he?”“He desired her, that was all,” sneered Voldemort, “but when she had gone, he agreed that there were other women, and of purer blood, worthier of him—” “Of course he told you that,” said Harry, “but he was Dumbledore’s spy from the moment you threatened her, and he’s been working against you ever since! Dumbledore was already dying when Snape finished him!” He kept his mouth shut at times, as we witnessed in the first chapter of the Deathly Hallows when Voldemort kills his colleague (professor of muggle studies) in front of him; he doesn't even flinch."Do you recognize our guest, Severus?” asked Voldemort. Snape raised his eyes to the upside down face. All of the Death Eaters were looking up at the captive now, as though they had been given permission to show curiosity. As she revolved to face the firelight, the woman said in a cracked and terrified voice. “Severus! Help me!”“Ah, yes,” said Snape as the prisoner turned slowly away again"Snape was a skilled occlumens, agreed, but I think it was his love for Lily and his fierce sense of purpose which allowed him to defy Voldemort.
