disco elysium fanart
nobody talks about motherhood in disco elysium. like, they show you how difficult and lonely motherhood is, how often fatherhood is barely even a fucking *thing*. it's so, so real. lilienne doesn't even have time to grieve her husbands death because she has three kids to take care of, the working class woman immediately asks if she should call her daughters when she learns that her husband is dead, judit who mentions that she has to take care of her husband and two kids on a cop's salary, even plaisance who's a shitty mother but is alone and struggling financially and will agree that it is wrong to leave her child out in the cold when confronted about it, and joyce who mentions being a mother so matter-of-factly like it's something to be expected of her.
and, if we believe harry's subconscious, dora who had to make the decision to get an abortion and then go through that process, which, is always difficult even if it's the right choice for some people. and harry sees her as the villain for not wanting *his* child despite the fact that he was clearly not financially stable and struggling with addiction, and would not have been able to provide for a child. finally, she is able to make the choice to be a mother when it's right for her and that's portrayed as an evil action of hers.

love this guy jean vic
I don't know if this fact has already been mentioned here, but reading the Jean Vicquemare page on the new wiki project for Disco Elysium i genuinely learned that, according to Robert Kurvitz, Jean Vicquemare's face was inspired by the singer Paul Banks from the American rock band Interpol. I was quite curious, so i browsed through some of his photos on Google and suddendly, i found that one particular photo of him and immediately thought... ''Wait a minute it reminds me of something... There's no way Rostov didn't use that photo for his early concept portrait of Jean.... The vibe, the lighting, the expression, the hair, the proportions... It's exactly the same...''
