getting a shitty 13 year old laptop for writing was such a good idea i have not been so consistently productive in a long time. i go outside and get so so mad about needing to write even though I don't feel inspired or excited about writing but there's nothing to do on that laptop but write, like even the thought of opening social media seems like more trouble than it's worth, so I force myself to write and eventually i get somewhere where it's not so hard

#i do think i will need to replace the HDD sooner or later (everything is backed up elsewhere)#and okay it's gonna be slightly harder when it starts getting extremely hot outside I'll need to claim a good spot indoors somewhere.

i think a lot of modern "queer" speculative fiction authors could really benefit from reading stuff where sympathetic protagonists do unforgivable things or otherwise really challenge you and the author never steps back and goes "I know what this character is doing is wrong and here is the specific reason why this is wrong and bad" or "but it's justified because xyz" or "no see the point is that they're evil" or "but the people they hurt are basically npcs and don't matter"

#i kind of gave up on reading this stuff after Sister Maiden Monster. i just can't keep putting myself through those books #hell i have a bunch of like. better books as examples but shit you could read anne rice for this shit. like it's not a rare thing to find #and yet i truly believe these writers are avoiding this stuff or not really engaging with it or learning from it

You are not socially maligned just because you don't like that love stories and romance are popular. Just because you can't relate to them doesn't mean they should go away. You can be aromantic basically anywhere in the world. But gay people can be themselves in very few places without threats of violence, exile, isolation, imprisonment, and death.
