A short, sweet, and simple drabble to go along with @meselfandwhy‘s cute art of Inuyasha doing Kagome’s makeup for the “My Boyfriend Does My Makeup” youtube challenge, and to @inuyashasforest who came up with the idea. Also because my love @mmhinman urged me to write something and how can I deny her? <3
“C’mon, Inuyasha, please? It’ll be fun!”
“No, Kagome. I’m not messing with that shit. Have Sango do it since you want to so bad.”
“Sango’s not my boyfriend, Inuyasha, you are.” Pause. “Unless…there’s something you’re not telling me—”
A snicker. “Please, Inuyasha? For me?”
“You know Ayame is making Kouga do it…I wonder how good he is with this sort of thing…”
“…I mean, he is majoring in art, so I bet he’s really—”
A growl and then, “Gimme that stupid thing.”
A pleased giggle, annoyed grumbling, then a resigned sigh.
“Okay—wait. Is it running? Does the red dot mean it’s running?” A close up of pursed red lips comes into view followed by dark hair tumbling over dainty shoulders and wide brown eyes looking curiously into the lens.
“Yes, Kagome, it’s running. Now get over here.” The masculine voice comes from a little father away and the dark-haired figure moves away to reveal the owner of the voice sitting on one of two chairs situated before the bed and impatiently waving her over to him with a hand. An assortment of small containers and brushes lie on a small table within easy reach next to him.
“Okay!” Excited, Kagome practically skipped over to her boyfriend and settled down in the chair in front of him. “Do you know which one—”
“Yes, I know which one. Here—” Reaching down, he grabbed the edge of her chair and tugged her closer so her legs were encased between his own spread legs. Then, with another sigh, Inuyasha reached up to turn his ballcap backwards on his head of short silver hair and picked up his first tool. “’Kay, ready?”
Nodding, Inuyasha flicked open the lid a black container and immediately scrunched up his nose. “God, this shit reeks.” Despite this, he dabbed the brush several times on the pallet and got to work.
A few moments pass in comfortable silence as her boyfriend wisely chooses what utensil and color to use next and very carefully outlines his girlfriend’s gorgeous brown eyes with black pencil. He frowned and reached up with his free hand to gently take his girl’s head and tilt it back slightly. “C’mon, Kagome, quit squirming.”
Kagome giggled. “Sorry! It tickles.”
“This is already hard enough. Sit still, will ya?”
Trading one tool for another, Inuyasha narrowed his gaze as he focused on his girlfriend’s perfect Cupid’s bow lips, thinking the color he’d chosen definitely suited her and complimented the entirety of his work. Another three minutes were spent with Kagome trying not to squirm again as her boyfriend applied the last of it and by the time he was finished, she was almost levitating with excitement to see for herself his skill.
“How does it look?” She resisted the urge to bite her freshly painted lips.
Nodding to himself in satisfaction, Inuyasha’s mouth kicked up into a smirk as he gingerly pushed back her black bangs and studied his handiwork. “Not bad.”
Her eyes lit up. “Really?”
Inuyasha grabbed one of her handheld mirrors and offered it to her. With a slightly shaky hand, Kagome lifted it up and her eyes widened at what stared back at her. Perfectly applied eyeliner, not too thick, and a soft pink shadow, not too heavy, coated her eyelids. Her cheeks were brushed with the same hue of pink, bringing attention to her delicate cheekbones, and her lips were painted a deeper pink. It was simple, sweet, and Kagome absolutely loved it.
“Oh…wow…” she breathed, her fingertips coming up to barely brush over her rosy cheek. “Inuyasha…you did such a good job.” Smiling, Kagome lowered the mirror to regard her talented boyfriend with a genuine smile, truly happy with the overall look he had created.
Inuyasha shrugged and rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. “Yeah, well. It was nothin’.”
He shrugged again and started organizing his girlfriend’s makeup kit.
“Inuyasha…” Kagome began after a minute of watching him. He cut his eyes to hers briefly to signal his acknowledgement then went back to his task. “How…how did you know…?” She trailed off, unsure of how to phase the question.
Fortunately, her boyfriend knew without her having to finish it. Sighing, Inuyasha zipped up the clear cosmetics bag and took off his hat to run a hand through his short locks. He shrugged again. “I used to watch my mom put on her make-up when I was a kid. I was so fascinated by all the colors and brushes and shit and one day she even let me put it on for her. Turns out I had a natural talent for it. I cherished the times she let me play with all her makeup and create different color schemes and whatever.” He suddenly frowned and gazed contemplatively down at his girlfriend’s makeup kit he’d just utilized. “This is the first time since she died that I’ve touched the stuff.”
A small hand gently cradled his cheek and he lifted golden eyes to stare at his girlfriend. He offered a tiny grin, to which Kagome returned with her own smile, and wordlessly she stood up and headed to the camera recording them. She went to push the stop button, hesitated, then dropped her hand and walked back to her man. Inuyasha hadn’t moved, reclined back in the chair and watching her with open curiosity as she stepped between his spread knees, settled herself down on his thigh and as his hands automatically landed on her waist, she cupped his face in her hands, gave him a warm, loving smile and leaned in to press her freshly painted lips to his own.
She felt his smile as he tangled a hand in her hair and kissed her back, oblivious to the camera still recording them.
