Yeah, here's some character bios for a new AU (alternate universe) Smash Bros. series I'm working on, Smash Haven (placeholder title), revolving around the lives of the Smashers in the strange refugee called the Smash Castle.

Who better than the first 4 fighters - or rather, the first four residents - of the Smash Castle, to start? We have a self-important plumber, a possible superbreed gorilla, a quiet explorer from the farms, and a secretive bounty hunter.

Bio 1: Mario

Age: 24 (Born 2000) Occupation: Plumber/Doctor

Hails from: Brooklyn, New York (America)

Bio: A common plumber and occasional doctor, and the first resident of the smash castle because he applied for residency first. He thinks it makes him special. It doesn't, but stroking his ego gets us free plumbing, so I'm happy to oblige.

Bio 2: Donkey Kong

Age: 22 (Born 2002)

Occupation: I don't know, nature wanderer?

Hails from: Smash Castle surrounding forest

Bio: A random gorilla i found in the forest. i like gorillas, so i lured him to the castle with a banana. seems particularly strong, may have been subject to radiation, or a superbreed. chill if fed, frightening if not.

Age: 19 (Born 2005)

Occupation: Explorer

Hails from: Waikato region (New Zealand)

Bio: A humble farm boy from a quaint village. He took up exploration to fight boredom, and one of his adventures led him here. Handy fellow, but not the talkative type. Kind of unnerving.

Bio 4: Samus Aran

Age: 30 (Born 1994)

Occupation: Explorer

Hails from: ???

Bio: She walks around in a technological marvel of a suit, but refuses to tell anyone where she got it from. Doesn't speak much of her past in general. Much of the younger smashers look up to her as a role model; She is a good one, but I don't think she likes the role much.

Anyways here's some more expanded lore info on Mario in my Smash AU, Smash Sanctuary (name to change very soon) 'cause I realize I never did an extended bios on the Smash 64 cast.

Bio 1: Mario

Age: 24 (Born 2000)

Occupation: Plumber/Doctor

Hails from: Brooklyn, New York (America)

Character notes: Mario is an everyman in Smash. So here he's also a common man. Plumber. And occasional doctor. And the first resident of the Smash Castle because he applied for residency first.

He thinks it makes him special. It doesn't, at all, but Master Hand likes stroking his ego for free plumbing. And that's basically Mario. He's not a bad guy, he's just a bit too proud of himself.

I went with the Brooklyn backstory 'cause thats always been the better one. He grew up orphaned from age 10, which is where some of his attitude comes from, he's very pratical-minded. Well, usually. Know him well enough, and he'll passionatley start defending the later seasons of Regular Show or insisting Carti became trash after self-titled with the passion only an early Gen Z internet native can have.

And I'll admit I stole a lot of these ideas from my friend @ballmaster999. So go follow him as compensation lol.

Man I have a hard time nailing this guy. I keep thinking of ideas for his backstory more epic than the last. But I'm trying to keep shit somewhat realistic so I can't go too crazy. Basics are, he comes from some Middle Eastern place, still tbd, and he came from a isolated, largely female led tribe.

Events happened, and he became one of the last survivors. As one of the last of his tribe, he'll go hard until the day he dies. Or something. At the very least, I want him to have some form of connection with both Link and Falcon. Maybe it'll involve time shenanigans? So many possibilites.

I don't have much to say on Young Link. His bio is pretty much all you're gonna get on him. He's a kid that looks up too much to Link, and models himself after him like kids do. Other than that, he has no relation to the actual Link in this AU. I haven't even decided on a place of birth yet, and I'm not sure I'll even need one for him.

Something else interesting about him tho is that he hangs out a lot with the similarly-aged Pichu, but is a much more tolerable Gen Alpha spawn than her. He kind of pays too much attention to rules, yet finds himself roped into her nonsense and is too passive to escape it.

Yeah I missed a day, but that's because I scrapped his whole bio and redid it yesterday. I also wanted to give him a more dynamic pose but fuck I'm about to fall asleep already.

Hails From: Kyoto Prefecture, Japan

So yeah, Marth. He's Japanese because I've spent too long listening to him speak Japanese in Brawl and Melee to be able to accept hearing him say English words in Ultimate.

Anyways, he's a political diplomat in training. Or was, before the world... uh, wrong time for discussing that. I went with that because that's about the furthest thing possible from Link's backstory of being a humble farm boy. I like foils and contrasts if u haven't picked up.

His sword may seem like it contradicts that, but he insists it's just a thing passed down through generations, that he keeps for sentimentality even though we've left medieval times; he's a traditional to a fault type. That's also why he was training to be a diplomat; his structured lifestyle makes him feel problems can be solved just with words. Slightly naive.

Hails From: Brooklyn, New York

In this AU, Fox is a parody of a washed IG influencer who doesn't recognize he peaked like 7 years ago. All good Instagram stars need a sidekick, so enter Falco. I figured if Fox was the delusional one, Falco would need to be a more positive example of post-fame, just staying quiet and moving on to get money in other ways.

In this case, McDonalds; they used to have military jobs, but their not super clean social media presence made it kinda hard for the military to justify keeping them around, doubly so since their reckless content was directly themed around that. I'll elaborate more if I ever go back to do an extended bio on Fox, but fame could not have affected them more differently.

Either way, Falco still finds himself tagging along when Fox wants to do shit. Maybe it's just hard to say no to a friend.

In this AU, she's Pikachu's younger sister. Her personality is basically, imagine Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes if he was a pre-teen, a Gen Alpha brat, and also had electric shocky powers he couldn't use, and you're pretty much on the mark.

So yeah if you want to rip on the cancerous parts of Gen Alpha, Pichu's ur punching bag. She's vulgar, TikTok and Skibidi Toilet addicted, and is a symptom of our doomed future as a species.

...Uh... also she tries to pick fights and prove her toughness; usually she kills herself before killing anyone else though. Like in the pic above.

(no hate intended to any of the non-cringe Gen Alphas. my generation ate Tide Pods and played with fidget spinners after all.)

Occupation: Researcher

Hails From: Alaska, United States

The Ice Climbers have a refreshingly simple concept, so they are mostly adapted without major changes. They're Inuit, so that greatly narrows down realistic birth places, and they have a built in career option, mountain climbing.

As for the stuff left up to interpretation, I decided to go with the angle of them being kids; it may not be true, but it's my alternate universe so my rules. I also decided to leave their relationship vague on purpose; maybe I'll hint at them more later, but I figure leaving them all on the table would be more entertaining.

Lastly, I wondered "How would they have so much free time to explore mountains as kids?" Well, that's easy, they're orphans 'cause their parents died climbing mountains, so they'll be the best mountain climbers the world's ever seen. And as for why they're at the Smash Castle? Well, they found it in their travels, and it would be a better place to stay than a tent.
