Somehow broke the street date on the digital copy of Star Fox 2026 and played it for a bit and boy oh boy do I have thoughts. For the sake of not repeating myself, here's the writeup I did on the demo

A barrage of thoughts in no particular order
-Pigma picks his nose in the prologue
For complete transparency, this is the route I'm working on. Aside from loving to play Aquas and Zoness, this is my preferred route.
The dialogue, especially between Fox and Falco, is as great as I expected. Falco has his quibbles with Fox, but the deeper you get into the game, the more Falco has his back.
Star Wolf are fucking stars, man. Upon further inspection, Wolf is as cool as he's ever looked. This is the first appearance of Leon where I've thought, "Yeah, that guy kills people" based on vocal performance alone. Andrew is especially pompous, just perfect. Laughed out loud when I saw his neck halo in Venom II. Of course, that twerp doesn't deserve cool cybernetics.
Speaking of Star Wolf, you can play as them in multiplayer, a long held dream of mine.
Now, onto the main complaint I have, which is that you don't get the same flashy feedback that you do in 64. And while yes, it would've been out of place in the art style, you aren't quite sure where to hit sometimes, which makes cluttered stages like Area 6 challenging.
Speaking of challenging, Star Wolf. They've been deliberately made harder and because of the way enemy ships react to laser fire. A very welcome challenge, but one I wasn't expecting at 1 in the morning, so I saved (saving your progress mid campaign is an amazing quality of life feature which I outright refused to use in Zero or 643D)
More to report on when I actually get to sit down and play with the routing a bit more.
-Pigma picks his nose in the prologue and doesn't wipe it or anything. Really gets him over as a gross individual, like Wario but with none of the charm.
-The fact that we don't *see* James get shot down in the prologue has me hopeful he's survived, or if he hasn't we get some sort of concrete proof that he's an illusion, I think that flew over people's heads in the last few 64 iteration
-I wasn't expecting the Switch Pro Controller to control poorly or anything, but the Pro Controller may be the optimal way to play the game. N64 NSO controller controls like booty cheeks. The Pro controller's default scheme is so easy to use I don't know why you'd use anything else. I did struggle with getting the warp in the demo, but that's a skill issue.
-I like the character arcs we're getting with the main four. Fox is struggling under the weight of expectations of living up to his dad, which means "That's our leader" by Falco at the end will mean something. Falco is struggling to accept Fox as a leader, Slippy is an aloof, neurodivergent little guy, and Peppy is the glue holding it all together.
I think Falco is going to be the star of the game. Look at him just vibing in the middle of the briefing. This isn't long before Falco just gets up and goes to zone out on the couch. Falco rules, we love Falco.
Falco is also the one who voids the warranty on the virtual reality game during the training mode. Absolutely hysterical sequence.
If you look closely, you can see steam coming off the brakes. People have complained about the lack of visible fire or flashing when your Arwing sustains heavy damage, but I'll take details like the one picture above over something more cartoony like that.
Another thing you can more or less tell fromt the picture above is that every color so far pops like hell, although I've heard colorblindness can mess with perceiving some things in the space levels.
Another thing this game excels at is bringing lore that's both new and stuff that's been delegated to guide books. Fox was never a boyscout but finding out he missed classes at the Academy is *chef's kiss*
At first, I wasn't sure how I felt with them on comms during the warp sequence but like everything else in this game it grew on me.
This is such a good demo and I can't wait to play the full game and eat up all the lore.
we need to instill a new storytelling rule of thumb into people called "show don't tweet" where we encourage them to put all pertinent canon information into the actual story and its official supplemental material instead of using reddit AMAs as lore dlcs

The Milky Way Galaxy: Ruled by the democratic Galactic Federation, this is where the F-Zero and Metroid games take place. Near the south end of it, in unfederated space, is where the Kirby games take place.
Middle right
The Lylat System: As seen in Star Fox Zero. The Star Fox games take place here. For the record the timeline for SBO is Zero>Starlink Battle for Atlus>Adventures>Assault>Command>Star Wolf Returns Ending
Middle Left
The Republic of Kew: A lawless planet that serves as a trade midpoint. between The Lylat System and The Milky Way. Ruled by a seldom-seen Minister, law enforcement can be bribed, squatter's rights are the rule of law, and anything goes. Shares a currency with Lylat and the federated Milky Way simply called credits
Top: Atlus System: The setting of the Starlink Battle for Atlus game. Wolf flees Lylat after Andross' defeat. After Wolf's initial plan is derailed, the other Star Wolf members make their way there, but are defeated.
And that's it. Nintendo's sci-fi worlds share a galaxy.

Diddy: Wowzers! (Smiles Brightly at One of the Baked Mozzarella Sticks He's Sharing with his Date, Dixie) These gotta be the best mozzarella sticks I've had in a real long time!
Dixie: (Happily Nodded in Agreement as She is Seen Enjoying the Appetitzers as Well)
Timber: (Seen Enjoying a Plate of Chili Cheese Fries He Ordered For Him and his Date, Pipsy) (Mm~) Mate, you gotta try these chili cheese fries for yourselves. They're actually to die for!
Diddy: (Gives his Old Friend a Cheeky Grin on his Face) You thinking what I'm thinking right now, old pal?~

The duo then turns to their girlfriends for their input.

The two childhood friends proceeds to trade their respective appetizers with one another. The first, single taste was more than enough for both of them to fall in love with them instantly.

Kazooie begins to feel a little bit overwhelmed by the other ladles' eagerness of wanting to spend time with her. She turns to Banjo for help....Only for him to give her a nod of approval with a thumbs up and a wholesome grin on his face. (Kazooie's actual weakness)
This, in turn, causes the red, sassy begull to sigh in defeat.
Kazooie: Fiine. Girls' Day Out it is then- woah! (Immediately Gets Pulled into a Group Hug)
Dixie/Pipsy: Girls' Day Out!!!~ (Starts Hopping Up amd Down While Squealing and Hugging Kazooie)

There was a brief moment of silence, lasting around ten to fifteen seconds tops, until the leader of Star Fox starts to take very deep breath, release every harden tension his body has, and looks up and back everyone again, Krystal most indefinitely.
Fox: You want me to talk about our breakup? Fine. I'll start by saying kicking you out of Star Fox was the worst mistake I've ever made in my whole life and the reason behind it was baffling, idiotic, and above all else: inexcusable, at least I thought so now.....
Katt/Falco: (Stares at Fox, Unimpressed) Mmm....
Fox: ('Ugh') God, what!?
Katt: We're gonna need more from that reason of yours, 'Suges.

Fox: Exactly. Bad enough that I keep worrying over every little thing nowadays, if I overstep that kind of boundary again, it'll only be a matter of time before I end up ruining a good thing we currently have.....

Everyone then turn their attention to Banjo in an instant.
Banjo: I don't mean to interrupt or anythin', but can I ask you a question there, Fox?
Fox: Y-Yeah. What's up, Banjo?
Banjo: I understand now how much this whole thing has been torturous for you and I'm really sorry you had go through with all- (Raises an Eyebrow in an Genuine Manner) But don't you think you're bein' a little too hard on yourself there?
Kazooie: ('Psh') A little? Looks to me he's been doing that wayyy too much if you ask me. Sad to watch really.
Fox: (Eyes Begins to Widened in Disbelief by Kazooie's Input) Wha-
Before he knows it, everyone begins to agree with statement Kazooie just made completely. Even Krystal nodding her head rapidly at Fox with a sad puppy dog look on her face.
Falco: Took the words right outta ours mouth, Sista'.
Katt: (Simply Nodded) Mmhmm.
Fox: (Went Back to Glaring at Falco and Katt Again) Seriously!?
Falco: (Casually Shrugs Again) 'Ey, her words, not ours.
Katt: Girl is more bolder than half the soldiers in Lylat- (Forms an Impressed Smirk on her Face) And respect that wholeheartedly.
Kazooie: (Points her Finger Gun at Katt) Right back at ya, cat girl.
Fox: (Facepalms Himself Again) Of course- of course the two of you would get along so easily tonight. This is bullshit!
Timber: (Raises his Hand Up) 'Ey, can rest of us here say a few things too, mate?
Fox: Huh? (Turns Over to Timber and the Others) Uh-('Sigh') Yeah, sure. Go ahead.
Timber: What happened to you two back then was a travesty for sure, but you can't keep letting that piece of memory swallow you whole forever like this. You'll lose that confidence of yours quicker than you can any of us can blink.
Pipsy: Which is all the more reason why you should use that past experience as a learning piece on what not to do in present time in order to help improve going forward. (Points at Krystal) This implies to you as well, Krystal, never forget.
Krystal: (Gets Surprised by the Sudden Namedrop Before Quickly Nodding her Head in Agreement) Y-Yes, of course!
Dixie: (Gives Fox a Reassuring Smile) It may seem like a tall order to get across now, but trust us when I say that everything will go a lot more calm, smoothly so long as you continue to love, encourage, and support one another as you are right now.
Diddy: (Puts on a Bright Smile on his Face) Because at the end of the day, you guys a team and teams always have each other's back no matter what the world throws at them. Keep that in tact and you two will reach to greater heights in no time flat! (Happily Gives Fox and Krystal a Thumbs Up)
Fox: (Genuinely Taken Aback by Everything Said to Him and Krystal) Wow.....These are all great advices. Remarkable even.
Falco: I know, right? (Whispers and Points Fox to Diddy and Crew Smiling at Them) This the very first restaurant these guys ever went out on and they know more about this dating game than the two of us pinheads, combined.
Fox: ('Sigh') Pinheads are putting it lightly.....
Krystal: Fox?
Fox/Falco: Hm? (Turns Their Attention To a Now Shy Krystal
Krystal: May I say a few words please?
Fox: S-Sure. Go ahead.
Krystal: (Takes a Very Deep Breath of her Own Before Speaking) The day you kicked me out of Star Fox was a nightmare I never thought it would come to lite. It wounded me, made me feel worthless, weak, a failure of my own being and to have be done by the one person held with the most highest of regards was just enough to put me on edge- (Looks Down on the Floor in Shame) Hence why I took every opportunity to lash out and reticle you, no matter how many times you begged for forgiveness.....
Fox wanted to say he deserves every second of the negative reception until he ultimately decided to keep silent Krystal keep talking.
Krystal: And I.... ('Sniff') Truly regret ever doing that all those years later....(Looks Back at Fox With Tears Finally Flowing Down From her Eyes) I should've known that you did this out of your concern for me a lot sooner!!~
Fox: (Taken Aback by Krystal's Tears Again) Krystal.....
Krystal: You've always go further and beyond to help save and protect anyone in danger, the best way you know how, even it if winds up getting you hurt and nearly killed in the process. Because that's the kind of person you are: A kind, courageous who would do whatever he can to live up to his father's legacy for years to come! ('Sniff') And I was a fool fr not seeing that until now. So please......please, please.....
Krystal then proceeds to walk forward towards her date for this intriguing event as she gently grab hold of his hand while have a more closer look of his face with a sincere yet pleading look of hers.
Krystal: All I ask that you never stop worrying over the people you love and care for, never let anyone more foolish enough than I am to tell you otherwise-
Fox: Krystal, you're not a fool-
Krystal: (Softly Shushes Fox) Nonono, darling, please, let me finish first- (Kiss the Top of Fox's Knuckles) Okay?~
Fox: (Immediately Starts Blushing on Cue) S-Sure. Continue.
Krystal: (Simply Nodded) Thank you. (Gently Squeezes Fox's Hand) But please.....(Forms a Soft, Sincere Smile on his Face) Never, ever stop being the amazing man you are right in front of me, Fox McCloud, okay?
Fox: (Stares at Krystal For a Brief Second Before Smiling Back and Nodded) Got it. I'll promise take you word to heart and some from here on out- (Starts Getting a Little Bit Bashful) If we can start our love quest all over again first~
Krystal: (Immediately Gasps While Covering her Mouth Right on Cue) Y-You and me?~ (Then Starts Blushing Yet Again) Starting over again?~ Are you sure?
Fox: (Happily Nodded Again) Positive. I think I've done enough cautionary plays for one year. I want us to get back to groove of things, hopefully this time we've be more mature and less stupid about than last time.
Krystal: (Giggles Softly) Then it's settled?~
Fox: You and Me Against the World, Round 2.....How that sound?
Krystal: (Smiles Brightly) It's perfect already~
And just like that, after being drifted apart for so long, two foxes shares a sincere, tender kiss on the lips for the whole restaurant to see, much to the other's excitement.
Diddy: (Happily Jumps Up From his Seat and Throws his Hat Up in the Air in Rejoice) CONGRATULATIONS!!
Timber: (Applauds as Well) Couldn't say any better there, old friend!
Dixie/Pipsy: We're so happy for you too!!~
