SMASH! 2016 FanFiction Competition

Calling all readers and writers of FanFiction: The 2016 SMASH! FanFiction Competition is now open!

Come and join in the fun of SMASH! by participating in our FanFiction competition. Have fun twisting the canon or possibly disregarding it entirely. This competition is open to anyone of any age and any skill level - you don’t have to be a professional author to become a FanFiction writer! You have nothing to lose by entering this competition, but could gain the opportunity to receive valuable feedback from a panel of reputable FanFiction authors chosen for their skills and knowledge of a broad range of Fandoms. To be in on the action write a ficlet (<1000 words) or a short story (1001-7500 words) inspired by one of the prompts below. A winner will be announced in both categories - Prizes are to be announced! Never heard of FanFiction? Are you someone who wonders “what if?” when you think about your favourite anime? Do you read manga and think “if only the creators had changed this…”? Why not try writing your own version of your favourite story? Re-write the ending of an anime episode, explore what happens when enemies have to work together, or give a background character the spotlight. SMASH! 2015 Blurb Comp

Can you sell a story in 250 words or less? Think you can do it when you have to base your story idea on the SMASH! mascots, Skadi and Cyrus, and their brush with the Apocalypse?

Write a blurb for the story of their adventure to join in the fun of the SMASH! Blurb Competition.

Use the SMASH! mascot art from the amazing lesovyart to think of an interesting scenario for our intrepid mascots and then write a short summary to sell the idea.

Deadline: 5 pm, August 7, 2015

To be in on the action write a ficlet (<1000 words) or a short story (1001-7500 words) inspired by one of the prompts. Use the prompt as broadly as you like and let it inspire your fanfic in any anime, manga or Japanese game fandom you enjoy. Prompts: • Orenda (n.) – A mystical force present in all people that empowers them to affect the world, or to change their own lives • “How far from animals are we really?“ – John Roderick • “What they do not realise – and what you must realise – is that manipulating others is something that all people do. In fact, manipulation is at the core of social interactions” – Brandon Sanderson’s “Mistborn: The Final Empire” There are no restrictions on what pairings can be in the fanfic, but the content must be rated G or PG.
