Oh, dear readers, how we miss you!!
Here at SMCU's Chicago, we've been facing some terribly cold days and had some (rather lack-luster) snowed-in evenings this past week. And yet, we've still found ways to deal with our neighbors' trash flowing through into our doorsteps. How fitting for our Prairie State, we're a little endangered, but one of a kind.
Now, for our updates, we've seen quite a bit of movement as of late.
Since Mayor Mikey's retirement (may he get his rest in peace in his private island), Dustin Henderson has made arrangements to pass down the baton to our new mayor @gayestcody, who was the runner up in the Mayoral race. Yes, that one. Yes, Cody Ferdinand, Mikey's rival. Yes, the ex-husband of THE Willis Byers. Why yes, we did write a sit down with him a couple weeks back. What was that? How does the center of the universe feel about his long time love rival and number one OP becoming Mayor?
...Well as long he STAYS in his island, I'm sure we'll be fine. What you don't know wont hurt you.
In other news, a long term citizen here in the SMCU's Chicago, Theo Decker, has recently quit his job at Hobart&Blackwell’s (a well-known antique shop found a couple blocks up midtown) and started a private detective agency! So you've heard it folks, if there's anything suspicious or weird going on, you've got someone to call!
When we caught him leaving in a walk-of-shame looking (we may be wrong, he refused to divulge his reasons) from Boris Pavlovsky's house, some of our best asked about this sudden switch. He told reporters that “he’d done so much detective work already that he felt like he might as well make money off of it.” The former art thief added that he felt bored with antique curating and was looking for something more “exciting.” If any Chicago residents are in need of detective work, he’s currently open for business. We at SMCU Reports wish him luck.
Meanwhile, a new flower shop has opened up!
Above is a Gayest Flower Shop promotion flyer.
The Gayest Flower Shop is the perfect place to go to buy a floral gift for a significant other, a best friend, or just to show someone you appreciate them. It’s gay-owned and gay-run, so be sure to support them!
Here in SMCU Chicago, we are true believers in the power of flowers. One our most beloved writers, Alice Henderson (previously published as Anonymous for research purposes) wanted to express her happy surprise at the shop opening with so much queer joy tied to it.
"We really need that these days." She'd said when she went around with pamphlet in hand around the office early this morning. "It's always a good time to tell people we love them."
One of our social media interns joked if her husband got her flowers last night. She seemed to smile at the thought.
"Yes." She'd said, cheeks warm. "But I'm just saying. Sometimes flowers can take us a long way."
We’re sure that there isn’t much more that needs to be added, but we’ll end on a word from the owners: “Flowers are a great way to show your love for someone, whether that’s romantic or platonic or something else. Especially in a world that doesn’t show a lot of love these days, it’s important to reach out, spread kindness, and tell people you care about that you love them before it’s too late.”
And isn't that what we're all about? Wow. We just love Love!!
