The first time Joel, Tommy, and Ellie leave Jackson’s gates together, both Tommy and Ellie immediately try to take Joel’s right side and then just look at each other like the other one’s spouted a second head

I present the follow-up of when they're inside of Jackson, both Ellie and Tommy automatically try to stay on Joel's left side so they can talk to him without problem, and it evolves into them constantly stumbling over each other's feet and bumping into each other.

They both refuse to budge and are like "we can make this work but I want his left and I won't leave first" and Joel simply watches them almost eat shit several times like "you know you can just like space yourselves out right one in front one in the back" and they both simultaneously go NO I was here first.

(Ellie & Tommy like each other a lot so it's not any kind of serious competition/jealousy but by god they have something to prove now)

The two of them collide, Joel lifting his niece into his arms with an ease that finds Sarah swallowing every ounce of envy she feels from when her father could hold her like that, back when she was as little as Ellie is. Guilt drowns the envy. She can’t possibly wish herself in Ellie’s position right now. Get a grip, Sarah.

She stands off to one side, her eyes scanning their surroundings. There’s a room behind Ellie with glass walls and a sliding door, but the curtains are partially drawn inside, so all she can see is a nurse hanging a blood bag on the metal stand by the bed. There’s a smartly dressed woman still sitting on a chair beside where Ellie had been. The woman offers Sarah a tight smile and her stomach churns about the fact that this complete stranger has a better idea of the situation than Sarah.

But if Ellie’s inconsolable out here in Joel’s arms, then that means that behind those curtains, must be—

(they get through it together, because that’s what families do)

I feel like it goes without saying but SPOILERS FOR NO WAY HOME

He comes in every Sunday.

Usually between noon and four pm.

Orders the same coffee.

Sometimes a muffin. Sometimes a donut.

He’s always alone. Never brings a girl, or a boy. Any kind of date.

Just him.

Just Peter Parker and his black coffee, perpetually on the verge of tears, it seems like.

There’s a jitteriness to his gait as he enters the shop, hands shoved into his jacket pockets, glancing over his shoulder as he waits for her to take his order. He bounces on his feet as he talks to her, like a wound-spring, ready to snap at any given moment, clearing his throat.

Yet, always grinning from ear to ear, the corners of his eyes crinkle as he thanks her with a stiff nod, a nervous chuckle, his voice soft, lingering a few beats longer than what any normal human being would do. Never one to talk about himself, he always asks about her, about her life, about school, rocking back on his heels, scratching the back of his neck, and for some God-forsaken reason, she always answers him. She finds herself wanting to talk to him, unable to shut up. There’s an easy familiarity to him, a certain comfort that comes from giving him a 12 oz coffee and a pastry.
