It’s wonderful when we both take breaks from the world and just take time to listen to each other and ask questions about seemingly mundane things that change through time: favorite memories, how we describe each other, things that are valuable to us, etc. Simple questions which transcend into strangely intimate answers.
It’s a powerful experience to be able to genuinely listen and care about what the other has to say, even more so the act of being listened to by someone who would not judge you by your vulnerabilities.
It has occurred to me that no matter how much we think we know people, there are always going to be parts of them that will change before we are able to fully understand them. The conscious effort to love someone through moments of misunderstanding determines if we can manage to get through it.
Perhaps, through everything, it is really is friendship that keeps relationships stable. At the end of the day, it’s really just finding someone willing to be willing to genuinely listen to us when the whole world doesn’t seem to care.
