"Assassin's Creed Unity" (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
The newest installment in the Assassin's Creed franchise, Assassin's Creed Unity is set in Paris, France during the first climax of the French Revolution in the year 1789. The streets of Paris are in an uproar. The populace is rebelling against the rich upper echelon of society due to economic downturn, hunger, and widespread poverty.
We find our protagonist, Arno Victor Dorian, as a young man who joins the Assassin Order in 1789. Suffering from survivors guilt, and feeling responsible for the mysterious murders of both his father and later adoptive father, Arno joins the Assassins with the drive to expose the "true villains of the French Revolution...The Templars"(IGN). Through his pursuit of truth, Arno will grow and transform from a low-ranking Assassin to a Master Assassin as he fights not only for personal reasons, but for the fate of the French Nation.
For the first time in the Assassin's Creed franchise, Assassin's Creed Unity, in conjunction with providing players with a single-player campaign, offers you and three other friends the opportunity to join together cooperatively online to play a unique 2-4 player experience that exists alongside the single-player story. In a drop-in drop-out co-op multiplayer style, players can seamlessly join other Assassins to fight in dynamic multiplayer scenarios. The possiblities of how each mission can be completed are endless, and unique to each experience, depending on the specific skill sets of each Assassin, the amount of Assassins in the mission, as well as the equipment each Assassin has picked up in his or her own single player experience. (Yes that's correct, all gear and skills you pick up in your own single player experience transfer into the co-op multiplayer experience!)
Also, to answer one question among the possible few, Unity will not contain a competitive multiplayer component as previous installments have.
Another notch in this installments belt is the ability to further customize your Assassin and craft them specifically how you want them using a "new, expansive skill tree"(Ubisoft). From their skills in stealth, abilities to heal yourself and allies, to the equipment they carry and the gear they wear, you can craft your Assassin to be lethal on whatever level you create. With new weapons, outfits, and enhanced skills, this new
customization will further immerse players in the Assassin experience.
Utilizing the hardware on the newest generation of gaming consoles, Ubisoft has revamped and enhanced the "core gameplay" experience of Assassin's Creed Unity by focusing on the key features that have cemented the series among must-play games: "Navigation(Parkour), Stealth, and Combat"(Ubisoft). With all of these elements acting seamlessly together, each encounter with enemies and NPCs (Non-Player Characters) is different. Whether you are sprintingĀ across rooftops chasing a target, lying in wait in the shadows of a dark alleyway, or fighting across an open plaza, the newly redone gameplay features seek to even further immerse players in the world of an Assassin.
Last, but certainly not least, let's not forget about the look of the game as a whole. With new engines at development teams fingertips, the graphical content of Assassin's Creed Unity is stunning. Based on E3 trailers, gameplay, and stills being displayed the landscapes, characters, and architecture of French Revolution France comes alive. These beautiful scenes are also aided in large part to newly recorded soundtracks, sound effects, and voiceovers.
Assassin's Creed Unity is shaping up to be a gem in the Assassin's Creed franchise, based on the all new features that are being rolled out for players to get their hands on. With the addition of multiplayer exclusive missions and challenges to increase cooperative gameplay, as well as the customization factor for unique Assassin's, players are going to create some memorable experiences in this latest installment of Assassin's Creed. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 28, 2014.
