summary. macklin and yn were only hooking up and messing around so yn could get over her ex. over time, she falls in love with mack, but she can’t tell him yet. one party, yn’s ex says some shit about her and one of her friends overhears, but they tell mack and he immediately defends her and everything comes out..
warning. mentions of underage drinking, swearing, secret relationships, blood, slight mention of nsfw, mentions of toxic relationships, verbal abuse, and shame, fluff at the end.

macklin and yn. if you asked them, they’d say they’re only messing around — we all know that’s not true. the two have been hooking up for maybe 6 months and although they were only “casual”, they only had sex with each other.
macklin was already popular, playing center for the BU’s hockey team. it was no surprise that he lived in the frat house. parties almost every night and left over beer pong cans on the coffee table. yn on the other hand was a good girl. she had straight a’s, a 3.8 GPA, and nights at the library studying for a test a week away. she’d thought about it before. maybe that’s why he broke up with me..
her ex, marcus, wasn’t exactly the best guy. actually not even a good guy. yes, he was attractive, but that’s why you don’t want looks to deceive you. during the start of their relationship, marcus was sweet. he’d give her flowers, take her on dates, all the cute boyfriend stuff.
it came 4 months after they started dating. little comments about her body and telling her to do stuff for him.
the two were sitting in marcus’ dorm; they were sitting on his bed just scrolling through their phones until marcus broke the silence. he looked yn up and down. “did you eat like 5 snacks today or what? looks like you fucking ate like a pig.” marcus said, sniggering after.
yn just froze and looked at him for a moment. she sat there for a few seconds, silence echoing in his dorm. “what?” it came out quietly as she fidgeted with her phone, looking down at the blank screen. “i- i.. only ate one snack today. and that was after i ate lunch.” yn tried to defend herself, but he interrupted her.
“maybe try to lose some weight or something.”
that was the first strike. yn let it go. maybe he was in a bad mood that day or work was tough. but of course, that wasn’t the case. over the months, more comments came out and he got worse. she finally had it after an argument they had. yn had accused him of cheating— which she later found out was true.
“you think im stupid?” she yelled at him. “my friend caught you and gave me pictures and you’re still trying to fucking gaslight me?”
marcus looked like he had steam coming out of his nose and ears. “you always do this! accuse me of stupid shit you know isn’t true!” he grabbed her arm tightly, and pulled her closer.
yn thankfully pulled away in time and shoved him. “im done with putting up with you and your lies. im breaking up with you!” he looked at her flabbergasted, then immediately turned back to anger. “you don’t know what you just lost. i could have any girl i wanted but i still chose you!”
“then go fuck any girl you want. not like i could care less.” yn was breathing heavily at this point, “just leave!” and so he did. she hasn’t heard much about him; only that he’s went and gone with probably 13 girls.
yn had started hooking up with mack two months after the breakup. it was a good way to take her mind of off him and she got pleasure.
the two had agreed for it to be casual. macklin wanted sex and yn wanted distraction. she thought it would be easy. not like macklin took care of her after sex, or that he told her she was pretty. maybe it was after he had told her he loved her mid thrust. after a while, she realized she’s fallen. but after everything that’s happened with marcus, yn couldn’t risk losing him. so she hid it, but i guess not well enough for her friends not to know.
“wait, I didn’t even know you and mack were fucking! yn, you are a lucky woman.” on of her friends, mia, said. another one, stella, interrupted her. “yknow like every girl has wanted macklin. i heard he was still a virgin” yn’s eyes widened.
“seriously? he never told me that..” she said quietly.
“maybe he was just embarrassed. i mean half of the guys in kappa probably have a body count of at least 5.” that was probably true. frat guys had.. a reputation. but macklin? the captain of the team? a virgin? it was surprising, but she guessed it wasn’t impossible.
the party was crowded. it was probably the most people the house had hosted for the year. yn didn’t really wanna come, but her friends forced her to. it was the first time she’s gone out in a long time. her friend loaned her a black dress. it had a low cut top and it was short. did she feel comfortable? no. did she feel hot. yes.
what yn didn’t know is her ex was at the same party. he noticed her probably 10 minutes ago. who wouldn’t? she looked completely different from when they were together. but obviously that was never in a good way with him. he was with his friends, drinking beer they probably got with a fake id.
one of yn’s friends, elena, overheard marcus talking of his friends.
“i don’t know who she thinks she is. she’s not even that hot— probably gained like 10 pounds.” marcus said. his friends laughed along with him, throwing around some other comments.
her eyes widened. elena stood there for a second, thinking of what and who to tell. her eyes scanned over the crowd when she noticed macklin. he had his arms wrapped around yn’s shoulders, whispering something in her ear. the two of them looked happy— like they were the only two people in the room. yn laughed before walking away, probably to get the both of them drinks.
elena finally worked up the courage to walk up to him. he finally noticed her, looking away from yn.
“oh, hey. you’re on of yn’s friends, right?” he asked.
“yeah.. um. i need to tell you something.” she was clearly nervous, and macklin picked up on that. “what is it?”
“you know yn’s ex? marcus” macklin looked even more confused and nervous at the mention of his name. “yeah, i do. what about him?”
“well, i just heard him talk about yn.. he was basically saying how she gained weight— which she didn’t so. i thought i would tell you first.” she rambled out nervously. there was a moment of silence. then, macklin walked away— towards marcus.
marcus turned to greet macklin with a smile but before he could say hi, a fist came in contact with his face. blood trickled down marcus’s nose.
“did you say that shit about yn?” macklin gripped his collar.
“i don’t know what you’re talking about, man! thought we were chill.” marcus tried to backtrack but that just made mack tighten his grip on him. “don’t try to fucking lie to me. you call yn fat?”
“fine, i did. not like it’s not true.” marcus replied. that just made macklin fuming. he threw him down to the floor, his back thudding to the hardwood.
“you say that shit again, i’ll make sure you’re dead. you don’t talk about my girlfriend like that.” macklin internally froze, but he had to keep his composure. marcus laughed. “girlfriend? like she’d wanna fuck your virgin ass.”
that was macklin’s last strike, he straddled marcus on the floor and all hell broke loose.
macklin stood in front of the sink as yn treated his wounds. he looked everywhere but at her. he winced as the alcohol touched a wound.
“sorry..” yn murmured, going lighter at the area. “you know, you didn’t have to do that. i’m used to it.” macklin finally looked up at her. she couldn’t tell what his reaction was. annoyance? anger? sadness?
“that’s not normal, yn. shouldn’t be saying that like it’s okay.” he grumbled, his hand going to grip her thighs as another wound stung. she stopped, the cotton ball in her hand just inches away from his face now. yn really looked at him. “not like it’s not true..” she finally resumed.
macklin removed her hand and gripped her wrist. “can you stop, yn? can’t you see that he’s toxic and that you’re just agreeing with this?”
she finally met his gaze. he could tell her eyes were glistening under the buzzing bathroom lights. “it’s okay to let it out.” he finally broke the silence. it took a moment before yn buried her face in his shoulder. macklin moved his hands from her thighs to her back, rubbing her back as she sobbed into his shoulder.
it took a while for her to finally calm down. yn had her face buried in his neck now as he stroked her hair. “im sorry you had to deal with that..” she mumbled.
“you don’t have to be sorry. we all have our moments.” he whispered.
yn hesitated before finally lifting her head and looking at him. “can i tell you something?”
“sure, what is it?” she paused for a moment before finally saying it.
he froze for a second, not knowing what to do or say. but he finally said it.
