No more melted tomblerones or mising skulls, yyeann!
This is my basic process for pretty much everything I draw. The key is understanding the shape of the garment you’re trying to draw and the shape of the body part you’re putting it on.
Drawing the body first forces you to make the shoe, hat, or clothes fit that body. With practice you’ll be able to skip some steps. This method works the same no matter the perspective or pose. It just relies on your knowledge of what a hat looks like from above, or what the bottom of a shoe looks like. When in doubt, just google refs. Don’t necessarily need the exact angle you’re trying to draw. Look at different pics to give you an idea of how it works in 3d.
Shoes are always a bit tricky because feet are a stupid ass shape.
It might help if you think of hats as a cylinder fitted to the person’s head to help you get the perspective right before you push in detail. note: heads aren’t circles. they’re kind of egg shaped if you look at them from the top.

Obviously, I’m not the best with drawing hands. But that basic shape helped me with drawing hands best. (Circle works for me too but not as good as that ‘fan shape’ my professor taught our class).
Don’t forget to keep practicing and using real life references–It’s the best way to draw good hands! Take your time drawing them! Don’t rush (unless you really wanna) It’s not a competition.

If you're an artist looking to diversify your faces:
click this link
draw whomever you get
don’t worry about making it super-accurate, just focus on the characteristic parts of the face and have fun
the outcome might not look like the ref, but it will be different and more varied than faces you draw out of your head, an dprobably pretty rad on its own right!
feel free to reblog with your drawing, if you want!
You can also use this: http://artists.pixelovely.com/practice-tools/face-expression-practice/
It’s a gesture website, which means you can chose to do faces of whatever gender and whatever expression; bodies, clothed or not, of whatever gender; and you can do animals, and hands and feet! You have to set a time limit (or choose class mode which I love), but you can pause, and its random!!

ive been asked a few times how i draw back-views, especially for character sheets so i wanted to share a little trick I learned a while back that’s really really helpful especially if you’re used to drawing things from the front and need help getting the proportions right from the back view.
You don’t ALWAYS have to do this the way that I do; The only reason I put effort into the front view is because this is going to be a character sheet and I need the front view to be fleshed out.
But alternatively; Just sketch out a sillhouette, then fill it in on a higher layer.
Sorry if someones already done this before im just answering a frequently asked question ;w;
Oh hey this is really helpful thanks! :D

Trying to draw buildings
yo here’s a useful tip from your fellow art ho cynellis… use google sketchup to create a model of the room/building/town you’re trying to draw… then take a screenshot & use it as a reference! It’s simple & fun!
Sketchup is incredibly helpful. I can’t recommend it enough.
There’s a 3D model warehouse where you can download all kinds of stuff so you don’t have to build everything from scratch.

How to draw feet
quick proportion tips
- eyeballs are an eyeball width apart - ears align with the top of your brows to the bottom of your nose, and are the center-point of a profile view - lip corners line up to the center of each eye - hands are roughly the size of your face - feet are the same size as your forearm - elbows are aligned with your belly-button - your hands reach down mid-length of your thighs - both upper and lower legs (individually) are roughly the same size as your torso (this is all rough estimates for proportion! feel free to add more to help others)
YOU ARE A FUCKING SAINT
- the length of your legs + feet is about the same as the length of your torso + everything above it
- collar bones extend directly from the shoulders
Update abt new stuff below ayyyyyy
HELLO YALL I made a new art blog since i bought a graphics tablet recently!! I’m not sure if i will actually use it or if i will end up posting all of my art on my main like usual so well see what happens. “How to boob”
some people said I should do something like this. please excuse my bad handwriting. also this isn’t some much a step by step tutorial as it is a bunch of diagrams. let me know if you want more stuff like this.
Another splendid fuck-ton of clothing references (per request).
Someone scanned this from a book called “Drawing Yaoi.”
I’m like 3000% sure the brushes I use are at their default settings, except obviously the crayon one which i fabricated after years of unhappy pencil results it’s more of just a textured brush than anything else tho. I also used that pencil brush for the lines in the witchsona drawing and this thing of Travis
Also if you’re a PS user I am v sorry, I literally only use SAI 100% of the time 8′u
And another thing, if it’s to hard to see the settings on this here is a link to the image in full
hope u somehow find this useful even tho those are pretty mcuh default brushes
artist tips
don’t save as jpeg
as a former yearbook editor and designer, let me explain this further
if youre only planning on posting your art online, then please save it as .png; this is also better for transparencies as well
BUT
please, if youre planning of printing your art, NEVER use png. it makes the quality of the image pretty shitty. use jpeg or pdf instead. and always set your work at 300dpi to get a better printing quality - this means, the images are crisper and sharper and theres no slight blurriness. i had a talk with my friend who is currently taking design, and pdf is much better to use when youre working with a bigger publishing company because it still has the layers intact, but if youre only planning on printing your stuff at staples or at some small publishing store, the jpeg is the way to go.
this has been a public service announcement
