New Ultra-Black Coating Could Enable the Search for Life on Exoplanets
A recently developed ultra-black coating not only efficiently absorbs light, but is also extremely thin and durable, enabling its potential use on starshades that could someday support the imaging of exoplanets and potentially facilitate the detection of life beyond our solar system. from NASA https://ift.tt/xQ2RHKW

Anti-intellectualism is so poisonous and the fact that people think their opinions are just as valid as real academic studies is toxic. There's no amount of arguing you can do to help sometimes, which also sucks.
what do you think about all of the money being made by harry potter being used directly to fund anti-trans hate? :3
I don't think anything about it because it's not true. If some woman who "respect[s] every trans person’s right to live any way that feels authentic and comfortable to them" is what you think anti trans hate looks like then I have some beachside property in Kansas to sell you. But honestly that emoji at the end doesn't give me confidence that you take actual anti trans sentiment seriously.
“subsequently she donated £70,000 to the legal challenge brought[97] by For Women Scotland against the Scottish Ministers in the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, which on 16 April 2025 ruled that the legal definition of a woman in the Equality Act 2010 is based on biological sex”-literally her wikipedia
Ahh, okay, I see. You are not concerned about transphobia, you are against women's rights.
@viscousbeast Babe, that's not anti-trans, that was her being pro-women. Just say you hate women, and hate women having sex-based rights and go.
If it were about trans rights, then trans men would be a part of the conversation too. But shockingly, it's only ever trans women being discussed when they are not allowed to enter spaces for women. That's what irritates me.
I noticed right off that when wimpundgate happened, it was primarily transwomen being centered when in reality the primary misgendering victim of "everyone who gets a period is a woman" would be TRANS MEN.

Moon Joy.
Just saw the absolutely braindead take that the Artemis II mission is "pure American propaganda," and I felt the sudden urge to explode.
Like, how stupid can you be? Do you understand how long it takes to actually successfully conduct a mission like this? Do you earnestly think this years-long, nearly decade-long, project was created specifically to distract from a war that wasn't happening and wasn't even something people considered a possibility when the project began? Do you genuinely believe that the purpose of this mission is not scientific? That we're learning nothing from this? That this does not represent a massive step for all of humanity?
This mission isn't even entirely made up of people from the United States - one of the astronauts aboard is Canadian! Like, yes, that's American in the literal sense of "person from North/South America", but it's very clear that that's not what the author of that post meant by "American."
People are so fucking dismissive of my entire field because they cannot see the importance of studying the universe beyond Earth because "we don't live there."
NEWSFLASH! THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE IS OUR HOME!!
We can learn so much about where we live by studying what else is out there! Every single thing we learn about space, the moon, other planets, asteroids, comets, stars, etc. - it all helps us paint a better picture of Earth and of ourselves and of our place in the universe!
Acting like space research is just a tool for propaganda and that it holds no importance outside of that is just foolish, ignorant, and frankly reprehensible to me.
Are you not curious? Do you not feel the pull to explore the heavens? Do you not want to know what it's like beyond our atmosphere? Do you not care about who we are and where we come from and why we exist? Do you not see that the exploration and study of space is one of the only things in this era of strife and hatred that still manages to unite us?
There are people in space right now who have gone further away from Earth than any people ever have before, and all you care about is conspiracy theories and complaining.
Grow up.
To the crews of Apollo one, challenger, Columbia and little Laika, bring them home safely tomorrow.
Forward.
