The Most Recent Supreme Court Decision Is HUGE for This Doc
On Monday, the Supreme Court ruled that its 2012 decision to ban mandatory life without parole sentences would be applied retroactively for inmates currently serving time. This decision could have life-changing effects for the inmates featured in the award-winning prison documentary, Lost For Life, who can now petition for parole.
The film takes an unsettling look at these young men, portraying them as victims to this unjust sentence without shying away from the brutal crimes they created. The most haunting story follows Torey and Brian, two young men currently serving time for murdering their classmate Cassie Jo. Inspired by the Columbine murders and by the movie Scream, the two high school aged boys filmed themselves plotting and rejoicing in the immediate adrenaline charged aftermath of their crime. Years later, Torey still denies any responsibility of the crime. Brian's remorse is painful, but the cruelty of the crime makes it difficult to discern the most just solution.

7 overlooked David Lynch films you need to see to believe.
The 6 Most Influential Horror Films Ever Made
1. Nosferatu This film is the seminal text for horror film fans. Released in 1922, the German expressionist film might not be scary in the modern sense, but its sense of style and pacing set the tone for the horror film genre.
2. Carnival of Souls This low budget horror film has achieved cult reverence since its release in 1962. Iconic directors David Lynch, George A. Romero and David Cronenberg have all referenced Carnival of Souls as a significant influence in their filmmaking.
3. Psycho This classic broke just as many horror conventions as it made. Hitchcock blends his legendary restraint with some truly shocking images forging a path for many slasher films to follow. Dive into the mind of the master of suspense with Telescope: A Talk with Hitchcock
4. Night of the Living Dead The “obscene” gore in this film was a prominent force in the creation of the MPAA rating system. Despite, or perhaps because of, this criticism, George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead is the most influential film in further defining the niche of true horror fans.
5. Cabinet of Dr. Caligari Ebert called it the first true horror film! The film is also German expressionism at its best.
6. House of Seven Corpses Like Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses but with 993 less dead bodies! The story revolves around a director who films a horror film in a real haunted house.

5. 28 Days Later
Danny Boyle shot fast and furious with digital video to capture beautiful lo-fi visions of a post-apocalyptic London and beyond. Horror overtones echo throughout Boyle’s career, from Shallow Grave andTrainspotting to Sunshine and 127 Hours; in 28 Days Later, his talent for intensity boiling over into insanity comes through as loud and clear as it ever has.
4. The House Of The Devil
It’s a deliberate throwback to the low-budget, deliberately paced horror movies of the late 1970s and early 1980s. The House Of The Devil illustrates Ti West’s devotion to getting the details perfectly right, both in the film itself and in the way it was marketed. He doesn’t just honor his oft-disreputable inspirations. In many ways, he tops them.
3. The Babadook
The scares kick in early, when Sam has his mom read a prescient pop-up book about a looming creature that they then “can’t get rid of.” Really, though, Amelia’s been dealing with demons since before the opening credits: haunted by guilt over surviving her husband, and sick with worry that their weird child will be a burden to someone for the rest of his life. This is a deeply unsettling film about what happens to horror movie victims when they don’t die, but can’t escape.
2. It Follows
Is it too soon to call It Follows one of the great horror movies of the new millennium? Though it crept into theaters just a few months ago, David Robert Mitchell’s fledgling fright flick already feels like a classic of the genre, something we’ll be watching between fingers for years to come.
