Albus Dumbledore was absolutely involved in the Sherlock fandom of the 1890s. The stories were coming out while he was at Hogwarts. What else would he be doing on his stressful summer holidays back home - other than extra study? Read Sherlock. He likes muggle sweets, music, games - why not books?

Was he one of the people writing letters to the author to complain about killing Sherlock off...? Probably not. He is private, introverted, high ego - probably saw harassing an author as 'beneath him' even when he was a teenager.

I'm damn sure that he would have argued for 'Sherlock/Moriarty' over 'Sherlock/Watson' though.

As he has gotten older he'd be able to appreciate the dynamic of Sherlock/Watson more than when he was a kid... ...but, yknow, an OTP is still an OTP. There's something electrifying about how Sherlock and Moriarty push eachother to the heights of their capabilities, isn't there? He can relate.

I think what is really amusing about Dumbledore escaping by clapping on Fawkes in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is that Dumbledore can Disapparate within Hogwarts Grounds but chose to use the pretty, fiery show instead.
