Post Finale ‘You 5’ (which means 'Spoilers!' , don't read if you didn't see season 5 yet) Pairing: Joe/Bronte

General summary: What if Bronte had second thoughts about what she did to Joe in the final episode? What if she decided their story must have a better ending? What would Joe think about it? Is it really over between them?

Summary of the chapter: Joe and Bronte share some intimacy and some confessions, too.

Chapter X: That part of me

Joe’s POV

Sleep with me tonight.

Four words, only four words you’ve just said and yet they hit me like a cannon shot.  

Did I stumble into a branch while I was walking outside and I hit my head very hard?

“Would you mind pinching me so I can be sure this is not only a dream?” I ask you, as I scratch my head, also testing if I have some bumps.

You chuckle and it’s even more efficient than a pinch on my arm.

“So... Do you really mean to sleep together as you and I in the same bed?” I cock my suspicious eyebrow at you.

You chuckle again and it’s one of the most lovely sounds I’ve ever heard.

“Well, Joe, last time I checked, it was the main definition of sleeping together.”  

I smile, even more when you grab my hand and take me back inside the house with you.

“Just imagine us, undressing each other and getting comfy in that large bed, before we fall asleep, hugging each other.” You murmur, as we reach the bedroom. “It’s the cosiest way to end my birthday.”

We both sit on the bed, your hand still holding mine.

You let my hand go, only to turn your back to me, still sitting.

“Joe, would you mind pulling the zipper down and setting me free from my dress?” “You know, it’s been more than two years since I’ve undressed a woman… and the last one was you…” I murmur, as I make the zipper trace half the path, exposing your sexy back more and more, all that precious skin I’m yearning to kiss and cherish.

You turn again to smile at me, so sweetly, but I can’t resist the opportunity of teasing your jealousy a little bit.

“Well, of course, save for all the sexy female guards from the jail I undressed in my dreams.” I sneer. “Oh. Well, that’s more than understandable. I suppose that in such a situation you had to resort to your vivid fantasy, not to get crazy.” You try to keep it together, but don’t think I didn’t see the flash of anger that crossed your eyes, Bronte.

And, not so surprisingly, you slided a tad farther from me and your sexy back now is unreachable.

“After all, I guess I can perfectly comprehend you: during my book signing sessions there were some cool guys who tickled my imagination, too…” you giggle. Wait. What the fuck?!

“Which level of tickling?” I stare at you with the intensity of a policeman during a questioning.

“Probably the same as yours.” You challenge me with your look.

“Okay, I was bluffing. Barely there were female guards, let alone sexy ones.” “Same here. Save for my only physical relationship with Paul who lasted shortly anyway..” Fucking Paul-still-without-surname, I hate him, among other reasons,  for the simple fact that he saw you naked, more than once. More times than me … maybe?

“Joe… I know that look. You weren’t listening to me anymore, were you?”

Guilty.

“Err.. you’re right. Probably my mind drifted back to the zipper I was lowering…” “Yeah, sure. I just said that save for the things I uselessly tried to make them work with Paul, in my mind there was no room for fantasies about other guys. It was too crowded by your presence.” You wink at me.

“Good memories, I hope.” Considering that the very last ones were me trying to kill you in several ways or me begging you to kill me.

“Not always so good, but that’s the point. Do you remember when my confession released you from jail and you came back home, finding the hidden camera?” You ask me, sliding a bit closer to me again.

“How am I supposed to forget one of my most pissed off moments?”

“Yeah, that’s it. I still remember your very angry ‘Hello,Bronte!’ through the camera. That scared the hell out of Louise, but Bronte… she was so thrilled you had gotten in touch with her again. That part of me brought me back to you, already knowing how dangerous it could have been. And you can’t tell me I wasn’t right!”

“Well, if you were a cat, you would have lost three out of your seven lives, due to me; so yeah, I guess you’re right.” I make you smile, despite everything. “And we can also say that even if Louise was proud of her job that night, in the woods, among the police and all its consequences, and she went on being happy and satisfied for a while; Bronte was begging to differ. And despite every logic and good judgment, I listened to that part of me, which brought us where we are now.”

Without even asking, I kiss you and you let me. “I do owe that part of you a lot.” I murmur against your lips. “Mm… Good to know. And do you also love it?” You ask me, before deepening the kiss.

“I love the whole package. Even that part of you who fucked my whole existence up!” I make you laugh, as I part from you. And it’s not a lie. “So, do you think you can finish the job now?” You turn again, showing me the zipper.

I gently bring my hand to the zipper again, but there’s something stopping me.

My conscience.

“Wait, Bronte. We’re about to undress, A.K.A. bare ourselves to each other… and before doing it in literal sense, I feel the urge to do that metaphorically.” You sit up, with your back against the mattress and cock a curious eyebrow at me.

“What do you mean?”

“Don’t you remember? There’s something I said I would have told you about it, since the very first day you brought me here…”

“Oh, what happened to London!” You connect the dots, how smart you are.

“Yeah, it’s exactly that. So imagine you want to leave your past behind, so you move to a new country. With new people. Even a new identity.” I begin my tale, as I take my jacket off. I feel that this confession is going to make me sweat a lot. “Oh, I do know, Jonathan Moore.” You point out.

Sometimes I forget that, for a change, it’s you, the stalker between us two.

“Yeah right, but do you think you already know all the rest?”

You keep silent and this is my little victory. “So, please, let me talk, also because it’s not something easy to confess. All I wanted back to those days was just a fresh start. A healthy one. And I had it at the beginning: the job of my dreams, a town and a lifestyle I loved, even a fancy house. But then I met the wrong crowd. Everything was so fine until I went out for a night with them… the morning after all I knew was that there was a dead man on my kitchen table, with a knife in his chest. One guy from that crowd, for the record.” Kate’s stupid asshole former boyfriend, but you don’t need to know this detail, too. “Oh, god!” You gasp.  

“Yeah, I was so confused and without a clue. Until the clues came under the shape of a temporary chat, with the text messages that disappeared shortly after being read. And this mysterious guy behind the chat knew about my past, knew me and wanted to frame me for all the killings that happened there, because the dead man on the table was only the first of a long list.” “So creepy.” “Very. But at least I had a purpose: I had an enemy to fight and people to protect…” “But… There's something awfully wrong with this story. Kate released many statements to the police about the killings in London and there’s you behind all of them. Probably starting with the dead man on the table.” You grumble.

Just what I did in New York was enough to make me spend at least three life sentences, but thanks a lot for the precious, righteous help, to my fucking half-burnt former wife!

“I’m getting there. So as the chats went on, I was getting closer and closer to who my enemy was, someone unsuspected, disguised as such a good guy, wanting the best for all the people around him, since he aimed to be their next Mayor.”

“That’s Rhys Montrose, who has been brutally assassinated and tortured by you!” Okay, I’m this close to wrapping a whole roll of tape around your mouth… if only I had one.

“I know, but then to me he was only someone who was giving me serious trouble, even trying to kill me… but don’t ask questions, there’s still something I can hardly explain to myself. However, I was so focused on stopping him, for weeks, that I … kind of forgot another important issue…” “A living important issue, trapped in a cage, maybe? A living issue called… Marienne?”

I confine myself to glancing at you in a way that makes you figure out you just have to shut the hell up.

“So imagine how relieved I was, the peak level my satisfaction reached when I finally gave Rhys what he deserved… only to find that there was a projection of him, next to his corpse, clapping his hands at me, so fucking amused.”

You gasp again but this time you’re clever enough to do it without adding a single word.

“And the truth behind that was so shocking: all that time, all those killings, the enemy I was so desperately trying to stop… it was another version of myself, disguised as someone who, for reasons, I had ended up obsessing over. The version of me had total control, while I hadn’t the slightest idea about what was going on; as if he could press some kind of fucking button that made me go on stand-by, letting him free to enjoy his mischievous acts.”

I pause to look at you and there are tears in your eyes; I just wonder if it’s due to sadness, fear, empathy, disgust or whatever else.

“I’ve locked so many people in cages, so many times, but I was trapped in the worst cage possible: the mental one.”

And now that I need you to speak, why do you keep so silent?

“Oh, Joe…” You sigh, after what seems to be an eternity. “I had no idea what you had to go through.”

You reach out to place your hand on my shoulder, in an attempt of comfort.

“And you still have to hear the worst part.” “Okay, I’m a bit afraid, but… please, go on.”

“Do you think I gladly accepted this extremely dangerous version of me? Let's just call it ‘Rhys’. Of course not, I fought against Rhys fiercely. I was utterly intentioned to stop it, even if that meant to… stop me as well, literally.” “So that’s why you jumped from that bridge!” You anticipate me.

Of course, as my proper stalker, you must have read that news, too.

“Yes, that’s exactly the reason. I wasn’t supposed to survive, I wasn’t supposed to be rescued, but it happened, but this had consequences.” “What.. What kind of coincidences?” You ask me, sliding back.

I understand if you’re afraid.

“I was sure that killing myself, or at least trying, would help me to get rid of that part of me I had dissociated from; instead that ultimate act of violence towards myself was just what Rhys needed to merge with me. Once for all. And I accepted it. A.K.A. I accepted to be as violent as he used to be… if not worse.”

And there you are, staring at me with your blue eyes wide open, your rapid breathing, as you hold the upper part of your dress to your chest, in a clumsy attempt of self hug.

I’m scaring the hell out of you and this is not what I want for us, for our future together.

Maybe to confess this whole thing to you was too rushed, maybe now I lost you forever and I don’t even know what to do about that.

Bronte’s POV

It looks like my thirty-one years start with a heavy burden on my shoulders.

A few days later, casually, as they are working together, Jim vents with her about his former girlfriend, how he still cared about her and wanted to start it over again and how she refused that in every possible way. Brigitte innerly startles, wondering why he mentioned that, since he rarely talks about his private life, but she acts like it was nothing.”

“Of course she does, the spiteful liar!” It’s almost funny how you can’t stand that character. Oh, but you will change your mind, soon.

“Days go by and nothing seems to happen, save for the fact that Brigitte is more and more in love with Jim and she has to keep it to herself. “

“Why? She should just try and tell him how she feels about him.” “Write your characters. Give them your advice.” I strike back. “Oh right, I forgot. I’m your living notepad now, I can’t be your beta reader, either.” You make me giggle.

“Also I’m quite sleepy, a reason why my narration could be less brilliant and captivating than usual.”

“Okay, back to the story. One day Jim informs her that Mr. Garcia, the ‘Sunny Isles Beach’ director  -A.K.A. the only one whom Brigitte confessed her real identity to when she has been hired, but without telling him the real reason why she has to keep it secret-  asked both of them to make a reportage about Loas Olas Beach, so they decide to go there by car, it’s Jim who drives…”

“Looks like the perfect occasion for Lottie/Brigitte to gather some courage and confess her love for him…” “Joe…” I resort to my best warning tone.

“Got it. Living, silent notepad.” “So they got in the car together, not that it’s a long trip anyway; but Jim seems to be less chatty than usual with her. Then she noticed he stopped the car. “But we’re not in Fort Lauderdale yet.” She makes him notice. “Oh, I know, but we’re going to make a little stop here at Dania Beach, before thinking about the reportage.” He smiles at her, but there’s something mysterious in his gaze. “You know, my parents bought a vacation house here and now they’re not here…” He explains as he’s leading the way, until they arrive at his house and he opens the door. “You’re gonna love it… Lottie!” “

Will you ever be mine?   I keep wondering what happened to me, in these last years, where that sweet, innocent, sometimes even a bit clumsy little girl disappeared, replaced by this Queen of a dark and cold kingdom that I’ve fought way too much to rule; losing my family, my true friends… and even my soul.

And yet, Nate, whenever I’m with you, I catch a glimpse of that sunny, carefree and cheerful girl I used to be; I feel that whenever you’re around me, I can take off my heavy armor of appearances and be just me once again.

You’ve always been such a good friend to me, the problem is that I want more from you, so much more, and I wonder if one day I’ll finally get what I deserve… what we both deserve: happiness, together.

It’s a heavy tome that fell from its shelf, it happens quite often when you work in a bookstore.

You sound even so proud saying that and your Italian pronunciation is rather sexy; but I just feel like a lab-rat and the more I look at it the more it seems an apple core.

And when I taste it I’d trade it for an apple core; instead I’m going to tell you a lie, not to upset you.

This was probably the funniest to write, because I have a huge headcanon about Bronte being a chaotic disaster in the kitchen, atleast most of the time , you can find that on many other fics of mine, esp. 'Let me...'

Our love roars

“Home, sweet home.” Blair sighs contently, as Dan opens the door of his loft. “Well, more like an intermediate stop before home, but still…”

“You know, I was getting quite worried hearing you calling Brooklyn home. Now I do recognize you!” Dan makes her laugh, as he puts his bag on the floor and sits on the bed.

“But you’re the main reason why I play around in Brooklyn so much. Ain’t it enough?” She giggles, kissing him.

“Mm, more than enough.” He smiles against her lips. “You know, Dan, I really loved all those trips together, they also taught me something important, especially the one in Providence. There’s something I won’t ever forget.”

“The RISD Museum, right? The Decorative Arts galleries were so impressive and so full of…”

Dan interrupts himself when he sees his girlfriend shaking her head.

“Their total lack of good taste in fashion: There were matching that could be okay in what? Twenty years ago, maybe?” Blair comments, still annoyed by the memory.

“To be honest, I’ve noticed that they bought my book, not the way they were dressed.”

“But I did, honey and this has been a sort of revelation: now I know what I have to do.” “Interesting. Would you mind explaining yourself better?” He urges her, hugging her from behind, as she sits on his lap.

“I’ll talk my mother into letting me create my own clothing line, addressed to girls who live outside the City, at an affordable price, but without sacrificing the good quality.” She informs him, getting up.

“Admirable. Kind of noble, too. There’s only a tiny problem: you don’t happen to be a stylist.” Dan grumbles.

- While my sister is; a stunningly talented one, for the record… but maybe it’s still too soon to cross that bridge!- He ponders.

“Of course I’m not, but a wise person once told me I’m an evil dictator of taste, a dictator who could perfectly lead her team of stylists and tailors, if Mother allowed me to have one.”

“Uh, so am I a wise person now?” Dan smugly smirks, getting up to reach her.

“You’re so many things, Dan Humphrey.” She smiles, kissing him once more.

“I’m also a soon-to-be fired author if I don’t show up to my editors with a new draft… which I’d better start working on, since the meeting is this afternoon.” Dan explains, drawing his laptop out of his bag. “Good. I’m on my way too, I’ve told you I have a mission. And possibly a direction where to go. Looks like the compass you gave me helped.” She winks at him, as he walks her to the exit.

“Go grab what you deserve, then. Fingers crossed for you.” He cheers.

“Thanks, love.” She crosses the threshold, but turns before he closes the door.

“Huh, Dan?”

“Yeah?”

“It’s good to be back to our routine.”

He stares at her puzzled, as she walks away.

Dan closes the door and goes back to his room.

Routine. Routine. Routine.

That word echoes in his mind as he tries his best to ignore it and focus on his job and he’s professional enough to do so.

So, about a couple of hours later, when he’s done with his draft - this time a noir with some historical hints -, Dan is free to let the Paranoia demon eat him from within.

- She said we are back to our routine. Routine as boredom. At least, during my book signing sessions we made love in so many different places. But now that we’re back in New York, she probably thinks that every day with me is just the same. - He lies down on his bed, scratching his head. -Oh, c’mon, she had a history with Mr. Eyes-Wide-Shut; of course she’s growing bored. I must make something up. -

His eyes fall on his Cabbage Patch. “Hey, Cedric, do you have any ideas to spice things up? And,  nope, voyeurism is not an option!”

Eventually, Dan has managed to move his body from his house, but not his mind from his constant thought, as he approaches the Simon & Schuster headquarters.

And that’s when he notices a sexy-shop not far from there.

He glances at his clock. It’s twenty to three in the afternoon. His meeting is at 3:15. There’s plenty of time.

That’s why he enters the shop and he immediately finds what he’s looking for. Something that goes even beyond his expectations. Something that Blair has been asking for a while. It’s time to please her and also himself.

Of course, it wouldn’t be very professional to go to the meeting with a highly questionable lustful bag, that’s why Dan decides he’s going to retrieve his kinky purchase once he’s done with his editors.

The meeting went wonderfully, the editors were delighted by his new project; which means that now Dan actually has to write it, although he really has no ideas at the moment.

His mind has been ruled by one thought only which isn’t exactly writing.

He grabs his mobile to send a text message to his girlfriend.

‘Hey, how did it go? Still keeping my finger crossed. XOXO D.’

The answer comes almost instantly, not with a message, but with a phone call. “Hey, Dan!” She greets him. “Hi, love, did the meeting already end?” “More like the meeting never took place. Mother said she was too busy today to hear my ideas, but she’ll find the time tomorrow. And I’m doing some comfort shopping.” Blair replies, as she fumbles through Chanel’s new collection.

“I’m sure that tomorrow is going to be epic. Is it early in the morning?” He tests the waters. “Nope. She said it’s in the afternoon. Why?”

“Because this way you could spend the night with me and take things slow in the morning. The lazy, cuddling kind of slow.” He murmurs.

“Mm. Sounds so appealing. I’ve told you that you’re the main reason I like hanging around in Brooklyn.” She giggles. “Can we also add one of your awesome hot chocolates?” “Deal.” He chuckles. “And ordering your favourite gourmet pizza for dinner as we watch some classic movies?” “You do know me, honey.” She grins.

- Another kind way to tell me that we have nothing but routine? I’ll show you, my dear. - Dan plots.

“Alright. Be at my place at nine o’ clock sharp. Don’t knock, I’ll leave the door open.” He instructs her.

“Oooh, I like that. See you later, honey.” She hangs up.

- Good. This should give me enough time to set everything ready. - Dan muses.

When, right on time Blair opens the door that, just as Dan has announced, it’s not locked, there’s no Dan waiting for her on the other side, as she expected and Dan's shutter is lowered.

“Dan? Are you there?” She walks in the corridor, when she finds out that all the lights are turned off with candles scattered all around. “Oh!” She exclaims, surprised, even more when she notices a box with a black ribbon on it and a folded sheet. “‘Dinner can wait, our passion can’t. Knock on my shutter once you’re dressed with what’s in the box. Yours. D’” She reads out loud that note written with his elegant handwriting.

She’s beyond thrilled when she lifts the box lid.

Once she’s ready, she knocks at the shutter and when Dan lifts it up, both stare at each other in awe.

Blair is wearing a super sexy golden, translucent and see-through body suit with long sleeves,with a zip in the middle that can be lowered down to the belly and further more.

There’s golden fur all over the end of the sleeves and the body ends, around the very exposed decoltè line, not to mention the furry hood with lion ears.

"Rooooar!" It’s Blair’s way to greet him, with her manicured hand posing as claws.

When he sees her at first Dan almost drops the whip he’s holding, which is the perfect accessory for his outfit. He’s wearing black, skinny leather pants with a typical tamer dovetail jacket, red and black, but sleeveless, exposing his well toned forearms and his bare chest. He also has a black-top hat that fits him to a T.

His nails have black polish and he wears eyeliner. Even his lips seem to be more glossy than usual.

“I know, maybe I have exaggerated. I must look so ridiculous, especially with these stupid leather pants…” Dan grumbles, feeling nervous.

Blair places her index upon his mouth.

“Hush.” She cuts him off. “I beg to differ, my love. I don’t know if it’s because I’m a lioness now.. but I’m so gonna devour you!” No sooner said than done.

Blair almost aggressively pulls him closer, grabbing the golden gold-fringed epaulettes of his jacket and smashes her lips against his; her body pressed against his leathery crotch, letting him know how much she’s eager to establish a closer contact.

He kisses her back with the same craving, his hands cupping her boobs through the unusual fabric. “Mm. Your lips tastes like blackberries. I like it.” She murmurs against his mouth, before deepening their kiss.

Their devouring kisses go on for a while, but when Blair opens her eyes again she notices something she hadn’t seen before.

On the shelf there’s Cedric with a little strap of black satin tied around his eyes and ears.

“Did you really blindfold Cedric?” Dan nods. “You know, just to get in the mood..”

“Are you going to blindfold me, too?” She asks him, as she toys with his epaulettes.

“Only if you ask nicely…” Dan replies, cracking the whip on the floor for emphasis.

Blair bites her lower lip, even more turned on. “Actually, nope. Save the blindfold for another time, honey. I really like what I'm seeing and I’d like to keep watching it!” She licks his cheek. “See? There’s not only books or DVDs in my shopping basket.” He smirks, kissing her again.

“Ohh, I definitely approve of this kind of purchase.” She slowly passes her tongue on her upper lip.  “Why didn’t you put on eyeliner before? You were really born to wear it, Dan…” “Ah-ah. I’m only Mr. Tamer now and you’d better remember that.” He cracks his whips again.

Blair shivers in anticipation. Dan’s tone became so authoritarian. He’s definitely stepped into the role.

“So, Mr. Tamer, am I supposed to have a name too or I’m just Lioness?” “Of course you have a name. I thought about something wild and exotical: Marishka!” He reveals.

“Ohhh, like one of Dracula's brides in ‘Van Helsing’, I like it.” She grins. “Although, c’mon, I’m clearly more like Verona!”

“Do you really want to argue about that right now?” He counters.

“Oh no, Mr. Tamer. I beg your pardon. I only want to please you.” “Right choice, Marishka. Now jump on my bed, chop-chop!” He crackles the whip on the floor twice.

She complies, waiting for his next move.

He walks closer to her, while standing.

“Kneel, Marishka.” He instructs her.

She stares at him, full of expectations, especially when he takes some steps even closer. “Undo my pants.”

She unbuttons his pants, finding a pleasant surprise: no boxers underneath.
