I'm James (he/him) and I'm a student of comparative literature and English Studies starting my 5th semester this winter. I've been blogging here semi-regularly since my finals and am now posting (or want to post!) more updates again with a focus on studying, reading, and general slice of life.

I'm trying to get my motivation back to study...It's that time of the year when you have zero motivation, but time is passing so fast that your only push is the amount of stuff you've been avoiding all year and need to finish asap!

11.08.2026 // feels like i'm just working 3 jobs at once.

my contextual chapter is turning out to be quite challenging to write as i figure out how to bring together the multiples strands of scholarship that i'm drawing from in my research. i have been feeling pretty frustrated with myself, but as i keep saying, i am getting somewhere. sometimes i feel like flinging my entire thesis (whatever i've written so far) out of the window. however, as a friend keeps reminding me, the drafting phase is always unpleasant.
