Scott having the gun and it being left somewhere either obvious or strange enough that Kip finds it the first time he's at the apartment and it tips him over to just that little bit too uncomfortable and wondering if the way Scott cant stop talking about serial killers actually means something. Kip bolts. No Skip. No Skip means no on ice kiss. No on ice kiss means Ilya doesn't go to the cottage that summer. Scott having the gun changes the narrative while still keeping it grounded and not necessitating the gun needs to be used.

Ember and Ice is a Hollanov AU? No, Ember and Ice is the result of Shane and Ilya babysitting the Pike kids. Ilya makes up fairytale bedtime stories for the kids, and then he and Shane tell each other the grown up versions later and act them out during their own bedtime.

Ember and Ice is still a Quinn story in the Game Changers universe. It's just narrated by the Hollander-Rozanovs. Hayden kept urging Shane to join Fanmail despite how it burned them before. Harris said it was not a bad idea. Joining Quinn as voice actors is kind of like joining Fanmail (No, it's not). Why are you mad, Harris? Is it because....oh, I see. Troy bought a subscription. No, don't deny it, Troy.

AU where Shane and Ilya break up between HR and TLG timelines, but are still locked together because of the foundation and the camps (and the fact that they are still soulmates and empty shells without the other), and cycling through nuclear fighting to cold shoulder bitterness to sending proxies to deal with things for them to I CAN BE MORE MATURE THAN YOU ARE AND SOOO PROFESSIONAL AND FRIENDLY to actually sort of friendly until....nope back to angry fighting again. All most people know is that it was apparently a mistake for these Rivals to think they could work on such a big project together.

Ilya ends up out, not that it exactly makes him happier because there is no point without Shane. Ilya also ends up going back hooking up with people after awhile, this time with a more diverse pool, so it only ends up a matter of time before he ends up hooking up with Harris a time or two.

It's mutually agreed to just be passing time, except Luca sees something and spreads it to the rest of the Centaurs and all of a sudden it's a Whole Thing, despite initial denials/telling the actual truth of how little it means from Ilya and Harris both. The team keeps pushing them together until Ilya , who we know craves the "boring," stable, and wholesome decides why the hell not lean into it and try to be happy (even though he's not sure he is capable of it...would be capable even if he were still with Shane).

Enter Troy Barrett being traded to the Centaurs, and everything he is going through when he does being made worse by the presence of (seemingly) perfect couple in honeymoon phase Ilya and Harris "Smells Like Apples and My Destiny" Drover.

Enter Troy running into and getting drunk with Shane "Fucking Babe" Hollander after a grueling game with Montreal, and, while you wouldn't normally confess that you are going through multiple rings of your own personal hell because you broke up with your boyfriend of a few years, you can't tell anyone because you are still in the closet, and you have to watch said boyfriend rub salt in your wounds by being in a public new relationship with someone he can be out with....well, kindred spirits recognize each other.

Obviously, the two canon couples would find their way to each other in the end, but does this set up speak to anyone else?

I think mostly what young fandom types (and I guess younger people in general) who are very very invested in the idea that “20 is still basically a minor” need to understand is that the feeling of “I’m just a child pretending to be an adult, and everyone else around me is a REAL adult” is DEEPLY universal (and won’t stop, ever, by the way, sorry!) and also is not, like, praxis.

Believe me, I get it, but the self-infantilization needs to stop, especially when you’re trying to engage in conversations about actual children and the harms they can face. Yes, it is scary to wake up and realize you’re 22 and you still feel like you’re 15, but it happens to all of us. You’re an adult. You have to deal with it.

Like I'm nearing 40 and I don't feel significantly different as a person than I did at 20, other than being less depressed.

I know I'm different bc i respond in different ways to things now, but there's not a sense of "ah yes I am become adult" that's for fuckin sure. It's normal. It's okay. So stop infantilizing yourselves about it.

And stop infantilizing others about it, too. Yes, you're realizing at 25 that you still don't feel like an adult, but you cannot use that feeling to let yourself think of people who are younger than you as "even less of an adult than I am" when they are, in fact, adults. And you have to be very, very careful not to let that feeling convince you that it's okay for young adults to have fewer rights.

There's no age at which you magically stop being worried that you're not doing it right or well enough. Every single person alive is the oldest they've ever been and we are ALL winging it. Being scared of getting it wrong doesn't mean that you shouldn't be allowed to get it wrong.
