now, that was a rare sight.

dar'khol could count on one hand the amount of miqo'te he's met during his years on spirale, let alone moonkeepers. a rare breed the further he strayed from eorzea, it would seem. it had a warmth settling within his chest; familiarity, a yearning for home.

a sensation well enough settled in him to pull attention away from skullrender, leaving it within the capable hands of his staff.

there's a delighted sway in dar'khol's tail as he speaks, bouncing faintly with the last few approaching steps taken towards the miqo'te. a closer look at her proves she's from no clan he's met before, though he'd expect as much in a place like this. humorous possibility to think on, however. if only for a moment.

"popularity's been growin', i've even got fresh faces passin' by. yours bein' one o' many. new to the scene, i take it."

"Interest is putting it lightly." She snorts, folding her arms over the railing as she watched the match currently at play. Her attention was still on him, sure, but part of her wanted to see just how close these two got to killing each other.

If death means nothing... Whats to stop them? A morbid thought for a doctor, she realizes, but the scientist in her soul clamored for data.

Her tail swats and twitches with interest, that familiar accent of his a delight on her ears. It's the first taste of home she'd had since arriving here. She even straightens her posture a bit, resting both hands on the railing and putting most of her weight on them.

"Just fell in yesterday, yeah. From what I gather, the gods of this place seal off everyones abilities, so it's been a chore getting used to not being able to just cast whatever magic I want." She shrugs. She could still channel aether, sure, manifest it into weak spells with no real substance, but she could barely keep her makeshift nouliths afloat. Without some kind of arcane focus, she wouldn't be doing any kind of real magic anytime soon...

"Have to wonder how they do that, though... and do they account for every energy type? Is it only Aether? Or is Dynamis closed off too? Things to study..."

Idle musings. She eventually shrugs, now turning her attention to him fully. "Sounds like you've been kicking around for a while. I'm Fahne, of the Amariyo clan. You are?"

It was more of a nuisance than an actual injury. Had he been paying closer attention to his surroundings, Legato would had avoided getting smacked in the forehead with the chunk of crystal; it thwapped right above his eyes and fell to the ground, causing him to stop and wince with a quiet muttering of: ouch.

Right as he brings a hand up to the red welt forming on his face, Legato looks down to see the young woman who, presumably, had launched it at him.

" It did, " he answers flatly.

" Not to worry. You should be more careful though. "

He didn't recognize this person. While Cotes wasn't the ward he spent the most time in, he would visit this place with Chara every now and again to forage. And Legato would had recalled coming across someone with such glacial white hair.

" You must be a new resident to this place. You are not used to your abilities being restricted by the Stars, are you? "

"I know- I thought coming out here would be far enough away from people, I'm sorry."

Not quite fast enough. She frowns deeply as she finally closes the gap, pulling the crystal back to her hand with whatever magicks she was using before and pocketing it.

"Uh- Yeah, yeah, bang on." She sighs, flexing her hand as she looks down at it, then up at his face. There's a brief pause as her ears twitch, this man... She's never seen a Hyur this tall before. He dwarfed even the tallest highlander, teetering close to a Roegadyn or Elezens stature. She felt almost comically tiny in his presence- Sure, Miqo'te ran small, but she was the gods damned warrior of light for twelves sake! Can't she get any taller then two lalafell in a trench coat?

Venat certainly had a sense of humor, she'll give her that.

She reaches her hand up, a bright green energy collecting around her palm and fingers before vanishing, only to gather on his face right at the spot where he got hit. There's a cooling sensation that follows it, washing over the wound and pulsing out across his skin before vanishing.

Healed, if only to soothe the ache and close the abrasion.

"There. All's well." She grins finally, a wide smile that reached her eyes, displaying the pointed fangs her species was known for. "Seems like you've been around for a while if you're speaking like that. This isn't the first time I've been to other worlds, but, this doesn't look like any shard I've ever been too."

Quietly, he listens to the instructor's words and watches as she demonstrates the application of certain roots and herbs. Professor Amariyo was the authority on these matters on the campus, and Zodyl found it meaningless to seek out the knowledge of anybody else at this point. He could not afford to have flaws in his dissertation, not when an important research grant was on the line.

And so, he nods along, taking mental note of how Fahne uses the coneflowers.

"Pollinators are vulnerable now more than ever, if these are the flowers that help them thrive, then I'll make use of that knowledge," Zodyl answers, reaching in and feeling the quality of the soil with his own fingertips, rubbing the dry bits and pieces between the index finger and thumb.

"It's a shame, what we've allowed to happen to their ecosystem. But if, say, an effort was made to replenish these biomes in the local area, then it would eventually become protected land," he explains.

"That is a goal of mine, at the very least. Watching the city expand further and further, demolishing the meadow lands, polluting it and driving away the natural inhabitants, it's disheartening to those of us in conservation."

"They are, the population of honey bees specifically is in grave danger. It is an unfortunate state we live in. In order for us to thrive we need space to grow and expand, and we do that at the cost of forcing out the smaller species." She brings her curled hand up to her chin in thought, her ears and tail flicking in a notable annoyance.

"There are ways we can live in harmony with these creatures, because we need them in order for nature to stay in balance, but we have to be willing to take those steps at a far grander scale then just a small handful of people... Planting more trees and flowers is a way to start taking those steps." She nods, finally moving back to the lab station and pouring the water from her can into the coneflower pot.

"It's an admirable goal you have. One that we share, believe it or not, even though my expertise lies in plants used mainly for medicine."

"Have you considered putting together a community garden somewhere on campus or in the local parks? You could fill it with all kinds of pollinator plants, and get the other students involved to boot. Might take some paperwork, but I don't know a single person who would say no to more greenery and beauty around town. Would look good on your thesis, I bet."

"There's quite a few plants that can assist with things like pollution" She hums as she moves about her classroom, the lab space filled with more plants then you can shake a stick at, and enough flowers to paint the walls with a spectrum of vibrant colors.

In this instance, she fetches a small pot filled with coneflowers off the windowsill, setting it on one of the lab stations.

"Coneflowers like this are specifically beneficial, I think. They do multiple jobs that both benefit us and help clean the air. The roots are medicinal, and the flowers provide plenty of pollen and space for pollinator species. Not to mention their stems are extremely hardy, and they thrive in most areas as long as there's plenty of sun, and can even survive a bit of shade if it's too hot. Plus, those same pollinators often live in the stems over the winter. They're a big win for everyone involved." She nods, her fingers dancing over the blooms before dropping to the soil, checking if it needed to be watered or not.

It's a bit dry, she feels, idly moving to fetch a small watering can from her desk a few steps away.

"You can throw a bunch of these into any meadow and field too, no need to keep them nearby, but they'll look pretty in the summer months if you do choose to keep them."

"Now, now," she sounded, being conscious to keep her voice hushed so not to add to the chaos swirling around the woman to whom the Servant's eyes flickered in hopes her approach hadn't been the factor which might upset her concentration.

"Would you like some help? An extra pair of hands will make the job go by faster, and we can settle disagreements peacefully. The Librarian might mistake the noise for someone else and mess up their research".
