Scottish news and politics, analysis and opinion. Scotland's political social media hub. Andrew Hughes speculates on how the General Election results might translate in Holyrood - and how pro-independence supporters might seek to maximise pressure on the Scottish Parliament I SENT a text to my brother recently: "I’ve been thinking

Scottish Labour leader Johann Lamont is to quit.
Lamont's decision, confirmed tonight, comes after sustained fire internally over her leadership of the party during and after the independence referendum campaign.
She is expected to formally make the announcement at a meeting of the party tomorrow.
Lamont has been dogged by poor personal poll ratings and been criticised over her positioning of the party post-referendum, as former Prime Minister Gordon Brown has taken a key role in ensuring Ed Miliband, David Cameron and Nick Clegg stick to their promises to voters of more Home Rule powers.
The party has also suffered the blow of two of its biggest heartlands, Glasgow, and North Lanarkshire, both voting Yes to independence in the poll.
It means two of the biggest political parties in Scotland, will have new leaders within weeks - with Nicola Sturgeon due to take over from First Minister and SNP leader Alex Salmond next month.

Prosecutors have instructed the police to launch a formal investigation into allegations that pro-Union campaigners breached electoral secrecy laws during the referendum.
The Scottish Government is to bring forward legislation to stop local authorities pursuing people for historic poll tax debts.
First Minister Alex Salmond made the announcement during first minister's questions at Holyrood after it emerged that councils were checking the payment records of people who had registered to vote in the recent referendum on Scottish independence.
Alex Salmond told MSPs it was misguided for councils to use current records to chase debts from decades ago: "I can announce today that it is the government's intention to bring forward legislation to ensure that councils can take no further action to recover ancient poll tax debts.
"After 25 years it's about time the poll tax is finally dead and buried in Scotland."
Scottish National Party membership reached 75,000 today, tripling in size since the referendum and becoming the United kingdom's 3rd largest party. 75,000 members in a country of 5.3 million - compare that with the UK-wide Conservative Party (2nd largest UK party) and their 134,000 paying members in a country of 64.1 million.
Scottish Greens on last check last week had 6000 members, tripling in size also since the referendum. It is very likely that number is somewhere over 7500 at the time of writing this.
The Scottish Socialist Party membership on last check last week had 2100 members since the referendum and this is likely to have risen above the 3000 mark since.
Scottish Labour do not release their membership figures but based on publicly available financial records, demographics, pricing schemes and guess work, they are estimated to have around 6000 paying members.
