Social distancing is a way to control the spreading of contagious/ infectious decease among people by avoiding any physical contact between them. This method has come to light in the wake of the Corona Virus Epidemic we are facing currently. Social distancing states that people should maintain a distance for a certain period of time, and do not come directly in contact with anyone from their society. It should not be confused with social isolation. People during such times are urged to talk to their family and friends living far from them via calls and video chats regularly so that the feeling of loneliness isn’t felt by anyone.
What does social distancing entail?
Any non-essential or frivolous activity, such as attending a party, going to a movie theater or a gym are banned. These kinds of social gatherings invite a lot of unnecessary contact between people and may result in the spread of bacteria.Under dire circumstances, all public transport and public areas are also shut down, so that there is minimal contact among people. You can visit a grocery store, but try to time it such that there is only a slight amount of crowd, like early in the morning or late at night.

Social distancing is only effective when you keep up with your personal hygiene as well. For example, when you go to the grocery store try to come in contact with only the essential items, keep away from everyone present in the store, and do not touch your face during the entire duration of your outing. Make sure that you wash your hands and change your clothes as soon as you get home.

Since people don’t come in contact with each other too much, the chances of contracting a virus from another person becomes very less. In times of an epidemic, the more people you come in contact with, the more prone you are to become infected and carry the infection to others.Social distancing helps in reducing the number of infected people drastically. Without practicing social distancing we cannot end Corona Virus.

Humans are social animals and most of us enjoy spending time out with friends, almost every day. But with social distancing, you have to stay in your closed quarters and keep your sanity for a long period of time which could be difficult for many people. People find themselves feeling lonely and depressed most of the time because of the lack of any social contact. It’s worse for people who have to leave their job because of the disease. But we have to stay strong and find a way to keep our life balanced. We should still continue with our daily routines, wake up early, and follow our passions which we didn’t get time for earlier.
