hey wario, someone i follow was complain how people with learning disabilities are shamed for getting extra help (they have one too i think actually). What do you think of people shaming people who have learning disabilities (like dyslexia), and shamed for getting the help they need like extra time on tests and ect. because "it's unfair" to people who are abled?

Wario was labeled as learning disabled growing up. Wario was absolutely shamed at every turn for this, and learning disabled students are made to feel lesser than their peers by this type of shaming. Wario was always hesitant to ask for the resources Wario needed, such as extra time or help on tests, because of the attitudes of Wario’s parents, teachers, and classmates, and the reactions and teasing Wario knew Wario could expect to hear if Wario requested help, even though in theory this help was available to Wario.

The purpose of a school is to educate its students. To that end, a school should make all reasonable accommodations for its students so that they can learn to the best of their potential. This should not only include the accommodations themselves, but fostering an environment where having a need for those resources is not shameful. An environment where students aren’t afraid to ask for help is an ideal learning environment.

When neurotypical people remark that learning disabled people are being given an advantage, it is partially because they view the education system as a competition. It is not hard to see why people view it that way, because in a lot of ways it is one. These kind of remarks also guilt learning disabled students and make them doubt themselves.

Many educational systems foster an environment of competition rather than actual learning and growth, through systems of standardized tests and numerical grades, in order to help process massive numbers of students efficiently by reducing them to easily-digestible numbers on a spreadsheet. In the process, far too many students slip through the cracks, including those who are learning disabled.

Wario apologizes for the rant, but this ask gave Wario a lot to talk about. That’s Wario’s experience with the education system and having a learning disability.
