hi i’m weird about sports, among other things

my sports tag system is kind of minimalist which was definitely a mistake but we’re already here

h (catch all hockey tag), p (pens tag), l (leafs tag), flp (panthers tag), the beautiful game! (sports nonsense.), i lack a general sports tag. (catch all for anything non hockey)

sports writing (what it says on the tin. articles, essays, poems etc about sports/athletes), hw (‘hockey writing’ tag. any writing that isn’t about sports/athletes that i’ve decided actually is), mhw (any edits i make)

i tag favorite players by their number (the one exception is sasha barkov is ab16 because 16 was already taken by mitchy)

words (catch all writing), art (catch all visual art), music (i like posting spotify links), wrapup (new one. i’m playing with the idea of making monthly reading wrap ups)

most of the time i tag favorite writers/artists by their last name, but it’s not consistent

i have some thematic tags

ghosts, hauntings, grief, tragedy, myth/classics, 4 (about siblings), 1967 (about fathers), like a bad dog (dog imagery), friendship!!!, still am her. (about growing up and staying the same)

hanif’s poems always kind of make me feel like i’ve lost my breath a bit by the time i get to the end of them

northanger abbey by jane austen (from the bookshelves)

slay. dialogue is so funny and catherine is soooo insane, i really enjoyed this. the thorpes may be the most insufferable austen antagonists of all- zero redeeming qualities!! HOWEVER. let me just say that idk if the new union square classics edition has the same introduction and footnotes by the same writer. but the man who did the introduction/notes for the older b&n classic edition was absolutely ASS. why is there a footnote explaining that muslin is cotton???? surely we can use context clues for some of these things. and the intro was even worse- he calls henry someone who fills a “brotherly and husbandly role” and upon finishing the book that just. does not make any goddamn sense.

girl this was DUMB! so fun, but so so stupid. and don’t get me wrong it is very purposefully silly and goofy. it just did not always land successfully for me personally. fletcher’s journey had so much potential and i feel like the resolution was fumbled a bit. but i had a BLAST. do not put in the papers that i didn’t enjoy myself.
