Great God of Wonders
Power of intercessory prayer
I think of two lady missionaries in China before the communists took over. They had to go into town to pick up a large sum of money from the bank to bring back to the hospital staff. For various reasons, they were delayed, and they only got half way home when night fell, so they had to spend the night out on the hills in what was then bandit infested territory. So they lay down and committed themselves to the Lord. In the morning they woke up, returned to the hospital and paid the staff. They had slept with this bag of money between them, a considerable sum. Some weeks later, a well-known local bandit leader, who had been shot was brought into their hospital. They saved his life and he said to the two missionary ladies, 'I saw you a few weeks back. You were sleeping out with a bag of money, weren't you?'
'Yes.'
'We wanted that money and we didn't come and take it.'
And the missionary ladies said, 'Why not?'
'Well,' he said, 'there were the soldiers.'
'What soldiers?'
'The soldiers with you. Twenty-seven of them, we counted them.'
The two ladies came back home on furlough some months later to their little church in London, and they told this story. The church secretary, who was a meticulous man kept the records of all meetings and how many attended, asked, 'What date was that?' And they told him. He looked it up in the diary and said, 'On that day our church prayer meeting had a special burden for you, and there were twenty-seven of us at the church prayer meeting, and we prayed for protection.'
From the book "Practicing the principles of prayer" by David Pawson.
For we do not want you to be unaware, brethren, of our affliction which came to us in Asia, that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life; indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead; who delivered us from so great a peril of death, and will deliver us, He on whom we have set our hope. And He will yet deliver us, you also joining in helping us through your prayers, so that thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf for the favor bestowed on us through the prayers of many.
2 Corinthians 1:8-11
"For if the Sun of righteousness has risen upon our hearts, there is an ocean of grace and love and power lying all around us, an ocean to which all earthly light is but a drop, and it is ready to transfigure us, as the sunshine transfigured the dandelion, and on the same condition-that we stand full face to God."
Lilias Trotter
and if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is vain, your faith also is vain. Moreover we are even found to be false witnesses of God, because we testified against God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise, if in fact the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised; and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If we have hoped in Christ in this life only, we are of all men most to be pitied. But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead.
1 Corinthians 15:14-21 (NASB)
May the Lord bless his people with peace!
peace that surpasses all understanding...
Watch "In to the woods my Master went" on YouTube
When death and shame would woo Him last,
From under the trees they drew Him last,
'Twas on a tree they slew Him -- last
When out of the woods He came.
"Today if you should hear His voice, do not harden your hearts"
All the way my saviour leads me.
All the way my Savior leads me;
What have I to ask beside?
Can I doubt His tender mercy,
Who through life has been my Guide?
Heav’nly peace, divinest comfort,
Here by faith in Him to dwell!
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well,
For I know, whate’er befall me,
Jesus doeth all things well.
You of little faith! Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Matthew 6:30-34
