" hi hi im sorry ! im sorry ! " she didn't know how long charlotte was waiting. she had a long last couple of days. pulling all nighters basically. because of the lack of sleep , she didn't realize she hadn't charged her phone the night before. she was grateful that her body had decided to wake up a little bit past the time she was meant to meet charlotte. " my phone — " she pulled it out of her pocket to show the other the black screen. sydney even pressed the buttons on the side to show her that it was completely dead. " i forgot to charge it. i tried to get here as fast as i could. potentially violating the speeding limits." she wasn't too disheveled. she put on the cleanest jeans she could find, a tshirt, and a jean jacket to make the look seem like she put effort. " i promise it was an accident. im usually more punctual than this." she took a seat in front of charlotte. " this uh da —" she paused. this wasn't really a date , was it ? " lunch is on me. any pastry or sandwich you want. on me."

even though she hadn't dated all that much, charlotte wasn't use to someone standing her up for any reason and this 'not-date-date' with sydney was quickly starting to feel exactly like that. she felt embarrassed, sick to the stomach that she would even entertain this, that something may come of it. she ached for normalcy and there was something about sydney that drew her in. checking her phone one last time, she sighed before mentally deciding she was going to leave. it was safe to say a lesson was learnt.

before having the chance to get up, she was met with a frantic apology. her curious blue eyes fell over the woman in front of her, trying her best to hide the disappointment that had consumed her. charlie wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt but she was struggling. sydney was genuine, she could tell that much. with an understanding smile charlie nodded and eased back into the chair, "i can understand in your line of work it can get away from you. i don't think it would have mattered if you had my number or not you wouldn't have been able to contact me." taking a sip of the table water she had ordered when she arrived, she shrugged, "you seem the punctual type but i was starting to think the worst there for a moment."

sydney's offer to pay, had charlotte shaking her head, "you really don't have to do that but is extremely kind of you. i have to admit i haven't eaten here all that much, is there something you'd recommend?"

miriam's expression softened at that, and she couldn't help but smile softly. "well, for what's worth, i kind of like meeting you like this," she said gently. "no expectations, no assumptions—just some really good baking and decent company, of course." she let out a quiet laugh at the question. "no kids. i just grew up here, figured i'd stop by on my day off and show some support for the community." she wasn't against the idea of children—miriam had just never found the right person to share it with and had come to accept she probably never would at this stage in her life. her eyes flicked up at charlie. "and i have to admit i think i definitely made the right decision today."

it caught charlie's interest that the woman, whom seemed to be of similar age also grew up in town. had she missed miriam whilst growing up? maybe she had gone to a different school. charlie racked her brain, considered bringing up the other to her sister once she got home and went on a social media stalk. "did you go to school here? i feel like we're a similar age, i'm trying to rack my brain on if we've crossed paths before." miriam definitely was intriguing to her and the more the conversation progressed, the more she wanted to learn a little more. charlotte glanced over towards the a mobile coffee cart nearby, "i think you did too — did you want to grab a coffee? i could probably use a quick break."

" well , i still think that ms betty crocker has some serious competition — if not café solis." the place owned by the town's very own carmen delgado. " i am definitely asking you out to lunch. just lunch." she didn't want to bite off more than she could chew , that and she didn't want charlotte to notice that she had been laying it on thick even if she was. besides , they were both still strangers to one another. who knew where things were going to end up between them as if there was a them. " you don't hand out your number , and i don't immediately go out on dates or hit on those who i helped on calls. " there was a teasing tone in her voice as she chuckled softly. " noon sounds great. i don't have to be at my shift till later on that night. i hate the grave yard shifts but im pulling doubles while a co-worker of mine is out. maybe at solis ?"

"just lunch," charlotte nodded with a warm smile at the woman's statement. the last thing she wanted to do was put any pressure on something that could turn out to be just nothing but she couldn't help but feel that things between them had been a just that little flirtier than the other interactions she'd had around town. "and here i was thinking i was an exception," joked playfully, offering the woman another bashful grin. "you don't need to sleep? are you sure that time works for you? i don't want to put you at a disadvantage for your job. solis sounds perfect though."

Quinn’s brow furrowed, just slightly, but she didn’t offer much judgement against the other. Her entire life had been about music and while she could hold a tune of her own, she’d found she was much happier with the sounds of other things like the buzzing of bees in her garden and the waves lapping against a beach and… obviously not-so-little cute surfers, apparently. Cheeks flushed at the memories of the sounds they’d made not so long ago which could be describe as many things, but cute is not one of them. “I live in New England, I’m more embarrassed in myself for not getting the whole indie folk thing right.”

A soft huff fell from her lips, but they stayed curved, not truly as annoyed at Ashton’s ego as they had been when they’d first met earlier in the day. It was funny what a few orgasms could change. “Bold of you to think you’re the cute little surfer I’m talking about. I could have plenty of cute little surfers I’m waving checkbooks around at.” Quinn pulled her bottom lip between her teeth for a moment, blue hues flicking over the other. “Though I’ll be honest, I think there’s only one who could make me forget my fictional husband.”

“Something like that.” The blonde repeated, her voice low as Ashton moved closer and suddenly the thought of any issues with her childhood were long forgotten. A soft breath fell from her lips with the gentle touch against the dyed strands of her hair. “I don’t know… my flight’s at noon and my garden wouldn’t be happy if I didn’t show up to water it tomorrow…” Quinn’s nose scrunched as she trailed off, but her hands fell to the other’s hips, fingertips bunching in the material she found there as she guided them closer. “I shouldn’t. I stay and things get… complicated.”

ashton couldn't help but smile at her admitting to not knowing much folk music considering where she lived, something they found real cute. "it's never too late to learn, i have a few favourites i could recommend." hopefully her parents hadn't sworn her off music completely. "i've been thinking about learning the banjo so when we have our beach bonfires during winter, i can play some strings or at least attempt to, i guess." they couldn't help but think about all the things she has missed out on by only coming into town once a year. her family may own the nicest place but it seemed as if it were such a disconnect from the community. new england was on the other side of the country, they couldn't have been further apart, probably lived completely different lives. "i've studied the increased great white shark activity at cape cod," they mentioned, bringing back the conversation to where she lived, "is that close to home?"

the curve on quinn's lips told ashton all they needed to know. they knew most of the other surfers at the break, she couldn't have been talking about any of them. ashton's eyes fell straight to her lip being pulled between her teeth, the curve of their own lips got bigger. "dude didn't stand a chance and quite frankly, neither did those other surfers at that break." they had only known each other for one day but ashton was starting to feel as if they had already known her a lot longer.

never had ashton wanted to someone stay more. they'd had endless women come and go from their life but they felt as if they were hanging on every word quinn decided to share with them. there was a slight ache of disappointment hearing her flight was the next noon. just as they were about to protest, they felt her hands at their sides, pulling them closer, something they didn't fight. ashton closed the gap between their foreheads, resting gently against hers, "i'm real good at complicated," they spoke practically at a whisper, "let this time be different."

even though it was ashton that tembi had met first, it was their twin, daxton, that had grabbed her attention and interest the longer they spent at camp, mainly for the fact that ashton was far too preoccupied with trying to charm the older camp counsellors, but also because there was just something intriguing about daxton that drew tembi in and made her want to continue to spend time with them. "then they stole whatever it is that you love the most," shoulders lifting in a shrug. finally tearing her gaze away, her eyes trailed into the direction of the other people as dax spoke, a soft laugh slipping into the open as she looked back to them in amusement. "and i'd still do it to this day, because let me tell you, some of them are even more childish than they were back then, and it's crazy to think how that's even possible," she made note before falling silent for a beat. "nah, come on..." was then let out as she reached out and playfully smacked their leg. "there's gotta be something we can do to turn that frown upside down."

even though daxton hated almost every minute of being at the camp and seeing once again, ashton take the spotlight, tembi had made dax's time memorable and somewhat enjoyable given the circumstances. "they all seem still very much self obsessed, i'd believe it. what i can't believe is i only got into only two fights with those asshat guys over the two weeks," daxton mused, inhaling the cigarette once more. their record hadn't always been the cleanest and put down not being sent home due to the fact their sibling was the star of the camp. blue eyes fell to spot their leg was playfully hit and lingered for a moment before they finally spoke, "you remember that open track field we use to sneak out to? look at the stars and shit? i think it'd be pretty neat to go back there, get outta here?"

miriam's smile softened at that as she brushed some crumbs from her fingers. "charlie," she repeated, letting out a quiet hum. "i'm miriam—and i'll pretend i didn't just get warned i could've googled you first." she chuckled, head tilting slightly. miriam was always a bit behind because of how busy her workdays were that she didn't have time to do much else besides eat and shower when she got home. "i have to say, though. i think i like this version better... getting the introduction straight from you." she glanced down at the tray again before her eyes met charlie's, her next words coming oiut in a low tease. "and for the record, don't quit your day job just yet—but if the whole fame thing does fall through, you've got yourself a pretty solid backup plan here."

"i'll be honest, it's not something i usually bring up to people i've just met, i'm not too sure why i even mentioned it. i guess i'm just not all that use to people not knowing who i am or think they know me." charlie tried not to ramble as best she could but the woman's chuckle relaxed her slightly. miriam's words caused a dimpled smile to grow on her features, "i'm kind of hoping it doesn't for the sake of my career but i'll keep that front of mind. it's safe to say i'll stick to the bake sales for a while. what brings you here? you have little one that attends or you're just here to support the community? which by the way, is very respectable."

she chuckled at the woman's words, liking that, despite it all, charlie hadn't asked her to leave. she could have, and constance would have complied - not without trying to charm her into letting her stay. but she hadn't and it made her grin, nodding as she listened to her. "mhm, yeah? anything interesting ms.famous actress did during her day?" she teased, picturing the brunette walking around, with that same worried furrow of her brows about being seen, being observed. she couldn't imagine what that life was like, and she was glad to have a job that afforded her the opportunity to do whatever she wanted most of the time. "you always have a choice, just so you know." constance turned around, bottle still in hand. it was one thing to be playfully pushy, another to forced herself and her presence on someone. not that she was getting that feeling from charlie. she made herself comfortable, uncapping the bottle and pouring them each a drink - not too full, but not too light. the comment about her visit made her nod, as her fingers grabbed the glass and handed it to her neighbor before taking ahold of her own, shrugging a shoulder. "date wasn't as interesting as she thought she was. kept talking about herself and her skincare company, even though i think she was just an employee." she clinked their glasses together, eyes landing on charlie once again, a crooked grin pulling at the edge of her lips. "and maybe i was a little distracted by other plans."

charlotte couldn't help but grimace at the mention of her fame. the last thing she wanted was to be seen for just her career. she was more than that and deserved to be seen as such. she did her best to stay private, out of the spotlight, even if the media did try their best to pry. all she wanted was to feel as normal in the world as she could given her circumstances. "i wouldn't say it was interesting, i do regular things, like regular people." charlie's eyes fell to the woman as she began to open the bottle, "i know and i'm choosing to entertain you now that you're here." as cocky as constance seemed, charlie could tell that the woman was still respectful, probably why she hadn't completely backflipped on the evening, even if she was unsure of what to expect. "sounds a little insufferable, i think you dodged a bullet." as glasses came together, charlie caught sight of the crooked grin, the same one that had almost left her stumbling on her words earlier in the evening. "couldn't wait to see me? that other girl didn't stand a chance." it brought a bashful smile to her face. "i can't deny that doesn't boost my ego."

She couldn’t resist the other’s body, the soft expanse of warm skin beneath her fingertips, the way it seemed to vibrate with a simple touch. It always felt like it was so long until she was able to feel Charlie like this. Long days flying followed by even longer nights dealing with Oliver, Sunny rarely ever had a moment to just… be there with her wife in the intimate way she still craved. She wouldn’t trade the time spent with her job and their son for the world, but she did find herself momentarily distracted by the rush of desire that flooded her chest at the brunette’s response.

Sunny moved closer beneath the blankets, leg slotting between the other’s as though they were always meant to fit together. Her fingertips traveled upward, palm splaying against Charlie’s ribcage feeling the thumping of the other’s heart beneath it, fingertips pressed lightly into warm skin as her lips trailed upward; her shoulder, her collarbone, the spot where it felt like her pulse was going to burst, and then in a spot just beneath Charlie’s ear that Sunny knew would have the reaction she so desperately wanted. “Let’s make a baby.” She repeated, her voice just a whisper but so full of longing and desire and confidence that it cause her to pull back just a fraction. “I mean it. We should have another baby, Charlie.”

considering sunny had been reluctant enough to end their relationship over the idea of having children, charlotte was caught a little by surprise that sunny was suggesting they have another. since getting back together toward the end of her pregnancy, sunny had been nothing but incredible. the way she adapted to being ollie's mother left charlie in complete awe of her wife. her heart swelled at the idea of growing their little family, giving their son a sibling and have sunny be apart of the entire process of conceiving and carrying a child. the woman's words brought goosebumps to her skin, charlie's own desire for her wife leaving her in all sorts of horny. as eyes fell closed a breathy moan fell from charlie's mouth as sunny's lips fell below her ear.

just as charlie was about to huff in disappointment that her wife had pulled back, disappointment quickly turned to curiosity. "you're serious," she stated, realisation bring her head back down from the clouds. "a-are you sure? you know i would give ollie a sibling in a heartbeat, grow our family." gently she leaned in and closed the gap, kissing sunny deeply, "i want this more than anything." kissing her again, she grinned, "it's nice that you're not freaking out on me this time."

“Or something.” An amused breath fell from her lips, caught somewhere between a chuckle and a sigh of acknowledgement that no matter where she went, no matter how much she dyed her hair, or who she became, her parents would always be ‘famous or something’. “Not really into classic rock, are you? Should’ve guessed that, you seem more like a techno kind of vibe.” Quinn’s nose crinkled endearingly, as though she were actually putting thought into what kind of music vibe the other had. It was a rare occurrence she met anyone who hadn’t at least heard of her parents or recognized their faces and she couldn’t quite tell if Ashton meant it when they asked if they should know them.

“I’m not uptight and even if I was, which is highly offensive in so many ways, I would totally be the type of uptight wife who waves around her husband’s checkbook for cute little surfers.” A teasing grin curved on her lips and she moved further into the room, settling against the soundboard as she slid a control across the dash idly. “Not really.” Quinn’s shoulders, covered by the silk robe, lifted and brushed the blonde waves settled there. “I grew up in their spotlight and it was… exhausting. I was tired of the world knowing me, so I left and became someone they didn’t. You’re lucky, I really only come back here once a year. Would’ve missed me and probably hit the car of a seventy year old grandma next week.”

ashton wasn't too sure what quinn expected of them, maybe something other than the response they had offered up. they shook their head, their eyes still soft on her features, unable to get the sight of her outline underneath the moonlight from their mind. "not at all — i'm an indie folk kinda guy so even your assumption was way off. i might have one good power ballad in my arsenal for karaoke though." noticing the woman scrunch up her nose, ashton ached for her body to be close to theirs again. quinn was breathtaking in the light of day but seeing her like this, it would be hard to forget. "my parents never really listened to much music when i was growing up," they finally admitted with a shrug of their shoulders. "s'kinda embarrassing."

"so you do think i'm cute, huh? i'm just not all that little." it was the only thing they'd managed to pull from her words with a smirk tugging at their lips. "i'll be real honest with you, if there had been a husband, i'd make it my mission for you to forget all about him." ashton watched her move into the room, her smile making them giddy. settling into the technicians chair, ashton listened, reflecting on how it wouldn't have been easy growing up in her position, emphasising with what she'd gone through. "i understand, i mean i don't — but i do." they quickly corrected and waited a moment before speaking again, "was everyone all up in your business, waiting for one misstep? expected you to be a certain way?"

ashton couldn't help but smile, a small chuckle escaped them, standing to make their way to where she leaned against the soundboard, "i guess i should buy a lottery ticket then." gently they reached to brush the hair over her shoulder, "stay," they spoke softly, "stay a little longer and escape here." they shook their head, a crooked smile played on their lips, "i don't want to be hitting no seventy year old granny but i do want to do this—" they motioned between the two of them, "again."

"Neither, actually. But my sister is a teacher here, and apparently no one gets away without being given a job. And since I can brandish a clipboard..." Blair gestured to the clipboard that was laying on the table. "I can't say I'm great at answering questions about what the PTA actually does though." A someone sheepish shrug. "What about you? You involved with the school or just enjoy baking for a cause?"

eyes fell to the clipboard and a chuckle quickly followed, unable to relate to being able to man a clipboard in such a serious way, "i'm sure you're doing a great job." charlie knew all too well what the pta did, her mother happened to be in the association whilst she and her siblings attended the school but that was something she kept to herself. "oh, my niece attends the school, my siblings and i all went to this school so lending my name to help raise a little money baking is the least i can do. i just happened to be back in town for a small break, the city can get a little loud." the city and media attention, that was.

CONNECTION: chelsea and your muse got set up either by a mutual friend or a dating app. they exchanged very little conversation before going on a date. dynamic could be her ex husbands friend/sibling, old flame, one of her kids' friends parent, her kids babysitter, someone she thought she hated, etc.

"i'm not... disappointed. i just —" a brief pause as chelsea exhales a fidgeting laugh, glancing around the dimly room before her gaze shyly catches the others. "i wasn't expecting it to be you. i guess that's the point to a blind date though, huh?" another beat, she forces herself to take a sip of her wine she pre-ordered while waiting anxiously for her first date in fifteen years. "how do you feel?"

ashton shook their head, chelsea didn't need to explain anything to them but they sat opposite her offering a warm smile, "you didn't expect it to be your kid's basketball coach, i get it." they were glad she didn't feel disappointment because they were locked in on her. they had been secretly for a while but this gave them the perfect excuse to get to know her better, have a conversation that lasted more than five minutes that wasn't revolving around her kids. chelsea's question made ashton nervous, wondering if they should sugarcoat their answer or just dive in. "honestly? i feel like i just hit the jackpot. seeing you here, looking as beautiful as you do, i'm in awe." they weren't sure just how much they should admit to her but they had to try, "i've kind of had my eye on you for a while, i just didn't think it was appropriate to ask you out after a practice while your kids were present but this also works."

"you ask a good question - marine biologist is what i told them, at least from what i can remember. i wouldn't be surprised if little me said i wanted to be a whale." the flirty comment made catherine chuckle softly. the conversation they were sharing felt so light-hearted, she loved it. this was the distraction she needed after her terrible evening. "you must be busy most of the time. i don't know if i'd be able to survive without a lot of free time." as they pulled her into the elevator with them, a small grin curved onto her lips. "i'm a writer - author if you will. yeah instead of being obsessed with whales i started becoming fascinated with the entire world and the emotions it holds. so watch out, if i create a character that seems almost identical to you...i apologize in advanced but also take it as a compliment." catherine shrugged her shoulders, "you seem interesting." god she felt like an idiot saying that, that was the best she had? she tried saving herself, probably obvious there was a small panic in her words. "fun, you seem fun to be around." thankfully the elevator stopped on their floor before she gestured for them to go first.

"that's why i'm a scientist," ashton remarked with a cheeky smirk, accompanied by a quick wink. "little you just thought outside the box, that's all." with the attention brought back to them, ashton shrugged, "it depends, during the season i take on a lighter work load, spend more time in the lab opposed to being out on exhibitions where i'm gone for days sometimes at a time. i'm not one to really sit still though, so it works for me, being busy." of course they noticed the look on her face caused by their small gesture to pull her inside with them. "oh yeah?" ashton's brow raised, a curve pulling at their lip, "you published, anything i might have heard of?" to say they were intrigued was an understatement as she explained being captivated by emotions that the world holds. "i already have one of those, my identical twin, daxton but this character, a mysterious neighbour, i'll take it as a compliment." hearing that she thought they were interesting, they chuckled at her trying to smoothen her words, "i better make sure i come good with that assumption, wouldn't want you to change your mind after ten minutes." stepping out of the elevator, they once again held out their hand for her to take if she wished. "i hope whoever fumbled the bag with you tonight realises just what they're missing out on."

It broke Mia's hard to see just how badly Daxton had been hurt by the very people in their life who had been meant to love them and care for them. The Mathews family had treated both the twins terribly, but Daxton more so. Ashton, at least until they'd been outed as queer, had been the prize child, given the best of everything while Daxton was left as a 'spare', treated with at best, distaste and at worst, downright abuse thanks to their various mood disorders and learning differences. Their parents hadn't viewed them as 'smart' in the ways that mattered, so rather than try to help them learn in different ways, they just treated them like dirt. Mia was glad she had never met those people. She'd have given them more than a piece of her mind.

She delicately stroked her fingers over Daxton's hair, over their cheeks. She had promised herself she would to her best to never let Daxton doubt how loved they were. "I can't promise what will work or won't work for you, but I know I want you to be here with me, and also getting the help you need. I don't want you in a facility. But if you needed that, I'd make it happen. I just want you to be healthy, baby. I want you to get all the things you need."

She rested her head against theirs, fingers stroking the tears from their cheeks. "I've reached out to Ashton to get your health insurance information." She was loathe to contact Ashton for anything after their last fight, but she'd do it, for Dax. "I'll find you a place that takes Medi-Cal. Whatever you need, okay? I'm just so glad you're safe. I'll do anything I can to keep it that way, to keep you from feeling the need to deal with those kind of people ever again. I promise."

daxton looked up at the mention of their sibling, surprised that she had reached out to them and that they would even want to help at all. it broke them to know that they had destroyed their relationship with the one person who had tried to help them in the past. they regretted many things about that dark period in their life but not mia. the pull towards each other had been too intense and daxton was sure they'd fallen for her even then. even through their substance fuelled haze. keeping their eyes locked on mia's, daxton nodded, wincing slightly doing their best to hide it. "did they say anything about me? ashton?" through everything, daxton had always looked up to ashton in some way, even before the comparisons their parents made pitting them against each other.

"i don't really know how the medi-cal works, ashton took care of that stuff for me but i'll just go where you think is best. i just want to get better. i want to get a job and be an actual boyfriend to you, one that you deserve. i've never felt anything like what i feel for you, mia — you're so special to me." they leaned in and gently kissed her with what strength they had left, "i hope they just leave me alone, i don't want or need that life anymore."

despite her face warm and red , carmen grinned. after all these years daxton still knew how to get her all hot and bothered. whether this be the flutters in her stomach , or the beating of her heart against her chest, daxton always knew how to make her feel without even trying. " oh ? is that right ? daddy ?" she couldn't help but to giggle. she couldn't help it . it was basically her wild fantasies coming true. carmen trailed a finger down daxton's lips before resting her hands on the sides of their neck, kissing down their jawline. her eyes returned to look into their blue ones. " i think also on top of that , we have to get as much us time as we can before the babies arrive." lips pressed against the back of daxton's ear before her teeth nibbled on their earlobe. " and also , it's best to start practicing early. we dont want to fall behind , right ?" lips now pressing against daxton's, kissing them hungrily, yet passionately, as if it had been a long time since she last had kissed , or been with , daxton.

to daxton, carmen had always looked like a meal and that's what their hungry eyes loudly conveyed to her. their heart pounded in their chest as their hands moved over her with purpose. "hm, it is — " they husked, fingers gripping her just that little firmer, holding her in place upon hearing their soon to be new nickname. "you lost me at on top —" and she had. at times daxton had a very one track mind and right now, that's what was taking over their mind. feeling carmen kiss them hungrily, daxton's hands gripped at her side, kissing her back, matching exactly what she was giving them, their hands slipped under her shirt to tug it over her head, "i've fallen behind enough in my life already, i won't let it happen this time. not with you, not with this."

"and if there was no candy collection to begin with?" exhaling, they looked out into the crowd, faces they'd seen years ago. they don't even know why they came to this silly little reunion.
