@soggycities
have i ever told you guys that community is one of my favorite shows ever and that i search every week for any updates of the movie and always click on the same article telling me that their schedules don't align? like, i loved those motherfuckers
Yes i know im not the first to draw this but this picture seriously speaks to me. Why did he do that
calling 🐚
✧ limited edition print ✧
so deep in a character hyperfixation that i perceive myself as them in my mind and there's nothing you can do about it
she sebastian solace on my convict til i gordon freeman my jonathan sims
dreamt that Will Wood performed live to a parent-teacher conference but mid performance he turned into a blue 2D rat with his face poorly edited onto it, hollering and singing about being a rat
Markiplier does on the surface seem like an odd choice for directing and starring in a serious scifi horror movie, but in terms of getting scared at a computer screen and dying badly in space, his resume is remarkably stacked.
is this a safe space to admit i really enjoy the m&m’s lore
maybe i will finish you 🤔🤔🤔🤔 one day
need me a hlvrai / pressure / iron lung crossover right NEOOWWW
gawddd i need to just post some more bullshit why am i being so timid
Things i noticed while rewatching Iron Lung (SPOILERS!!)
yap/things i noticed session because this is my 4th rewatch and i’ve seen too many people complain over its duration and hard to chew plot. I love when a movie forces you to think 🤤 my incomprehensible cosmic horrors stay incomprehensible. Anyway, some of these might already have been theorized before since people on tumblr are QUICKK.
The condensation is a great detail and an important focus, not just for atmosphere! Each time he uses the camera he irradiates both him and the ship, which proven, causes things to heat up.
Him throwing up blood and the blisters on his arms are most likely from radiation sickness.
The leather pouch(?) is from his mom. This is pretty much confirmed in both the flashback, and at the end when he straps it around the blackbox. Hence "please, keep this safe mom." We also see him reaching for it everytime he feels unsafe.
The condensation/blood parallels. At one point it shifts from being more of one than the other, until eventually you can’t tell which is which. Might be a simple detail but i thought it was neat.
The blood also takes shape as faces and grows teeth. Kind of like a teratoma (tumor). "Your ship is alive" and "(the blood) it's us". (also correlates with when he blasts the workers with radiation and Ava says "you can say sorry to my tumors" even more so cementing the fact that the radiation has an effect on the ship and later the blood.)
Convict/Laika the dog allegory </3
The convict DOES tell the thing his name! Or at least he says it out loud to the ocean. It happens earlier on, which is why it tells him that "yes, you did".
Why did his oxygen go up at the end? well, for one, blood circulates oxygen and the ship fuses with the blood. But also, the purpose of an iron lung… right?
The convict 100% suffered massively from the elements and his injuries. Concussed x2, radiation sickness, CO2 poisoning, drinking 70% isopropyl alcohol. Weird alien shit was 100% involved too, however.
The veins holding the button down at the end match the scar on his neck.
The humanoid monster we see in the ship is most likely the convict, since the two scenes are identical to each other, with the only difference being that we switch perspective of who and where in time we are. (Notice it’s missing arm and the convict tearing the same arm off at the end, right before his skin grows teeth in the same place as humanoid thing).
To build on that. A theory i've seen floating around explaining the whole "god/creature" thing, and why the convict sees "himself" both future and past:
When we're shown the light and it “cuts” through his ship, it could be akin to the ionizing radiation of an X-ray, just a very condensed form of it (which is why both things "see through" objects), and with THAT much condensed energy, time and reality will start to distort around it (similar to how black holes function, matter and energy). However, instead of being an amalgamation of inorganic matter like a black hole, the blood moon is a dense matter of organic matter. Since it’s confirmed to be “entirely human” and implied to host multiple “identities”, it'd be possible that the ionizing radiation is similar to the energy our brains use/produce when forming thought, just on a massively larger scale. For some reason, when the blood moon orginated, many humans must've been present (the convict mentions the many space stations and ships going missing in space all at once) and likely blasted with tons of radiation at the same time. This could have caused the energy that forms our thoughts to "connect", past physical barriers.
Without being able to rationalize what was happening to them, these consciousnesses would believe it to be Divine in nature (as seen throughout history, social theory.) These consciousnesses also all have a deep desire to “live” and to be human. The radiation is responding to this collective thought and converting any matter it touches into human DNA.
This might also explain why it's so angry and why it believes that humans "don't deserve the light" (and it's divinity entirely). Something probably happened for the blood moon to be born, something that humans did. This would also be why it gets so angry at the convict when he confesses his hand in filament station. They remember it.
The Quiet Rapture could probably be attributed to the Space Expansion Theory. They even bring it up in the movie, specifically in the flashback about how the stars are "dead" because their light is taking a while to travel to us.
The convict was clearly the shepherds executioner in securing “soil for the trees” (i’m guessing ritualistic sacrifices to feed the last living trees), which would be what earned him the title "butcher".
The ship implodes from the pressure differential, however, am i crazy for seeing it very clearly turn into a tree at the end? I’m thinking it would have something to do with the convicts contribution to the collective hivemind/manifestation since the ocean supposedly “saves people” within it. It’s also very symbolic considering Eden’s beliefs. If death turns you into soil, then the convict very much utilises the sea of identities (the dead) to become the tree, the hope for humanity.
He was probably not expected to survive at all. While we do get confirmation that others have made it up, their names were never known, implying that they were either killed, thrown back in prison or died (presumably from the radiation exposure) upon returning to the surface. “This is not an expedition, it’s an execution”
The whole movie is an ugly reminder that survival and morality rarely evolve together. It’s also very much about self-transcendence and where we draw the line for what a person should endure, when suffering is justified in the name of an evolutionary imperative.
Guys 2009-2010 orange is so freaking cute……….
