Mid-year 2026 update (this is without tax):
Remember this the next time someone argues that raising the minimum wage will raise prices
to be clear, the U.S. federal minimum wage in 1999 was $5.15/hour, so a worker who made the minimum wage could buy the items on that receipt with 41 minutes of work.
in 2026, the federal minumum wage is $7.25, so a worker who makes minimum wage would have to work 95 minutes--more than twice as long--to buy those same items.

Please do rent the Tomb Quest digital ticket! It’s such a wonderful, magical and special show with so much heart, and there’s a good chance it could become your new favourite Starkid show!
https://starkid.vhx.tv/products/tomb-quest-digital-rental
As always, you’ll be helping support all the artists who worked so hard to bring the show to life (and giving it more chance of another life in future which I desperately need)
Please also note the disclaimer, but it was edited by Brian who turned an amazingly high quality VHSCCs digital ticket around very quickly too, so I know it’ll be incredible!

i hate how much ai has taken the joy out of seeing something cool. you used to see something cool, like a really intricate drawing or a video of someone doing an insane skill or two animals doing something cute, and because there were no mental gymnastics involved in discerning whether or not it was 'real' you could sit there and have the joy of like, "wow! how did they do that! how cool is it that they made that! what a wonderful moment to have captured!" and now every time i see something remarkable i hate that i have to sit there and be like okay let me go frame by frame to make sure everything lines up. let me double check the page this comes from. let me scroll through the comments to make sure no one called out something i missed. like i want the joy of being able to trust someone else's creation back, please
pack it up princess charming
i wish people in fandom spaces wouldn't couch the (alleged) crimes of creators in such vague terms. "Gaiman is controversial right now" NO, Gaiman has been accused of rape by several women. "DC probably won't reprint a lot of 90s green lantern because Gerard Jones is problematic." NO, Gerard Jones was convicted of possession of child pornography. "controversial" and "problematic" do not accurately convey what is going on remotely and if anything play down what these people have done.
J.K. Rowling isn't "controversial", she's funding the genocide of transgender people.
The other thing, of course - and I feel like this is deliberate - is that using these vague terms makes it easy to lump anyone the speaker merely dislikes in with these actual, real predators and fascists. If I play pretend with my dolls in a way you don't like and you want to make me go away, you can simply start telling people that I'm "problematic" or "controversial", and they'll mentally categorise me alongside the above-mentioned bastards without you having to specify what I actually did.
Use the correct language, god damn it. Call them what they are.

saw this on Insta and the idea that people who are anti-AI are just using it anyway like... willing to give it up? I ACTIVELY AVOID THAT SHIT BUD! WHAT ARE YOU EVEN TALKING ABOUT?
ALSO
It's not as if this shit has been around SOOO LONG. We all existed JUST FINE before this shit became THE THING someone decided to shove in our face like...
I saw a response to this going around that basically said "this is like a meth head asking someone who's never done drugs how they could possibly survive a day without meth"
You gotta be really publicly passionate about things if you want your friends to text you. Bc people will forget to text you because they’re human. But if you’re really openly the friend who loves identifying ants your friends will think of you when they see ants. And they’ll text you “what ant is this [blurry photo]”. And then they’ll ask you how you’ve been and we should get coffee sometime. But if they don’t know what you love they’ll never know what you like
And then when the ant convention is in town they’ll be like dude… we should go to the ant convention. But they would never think to go if they didn’t know u loved ants
And sometimes you need to ask them to go to the ant convention. But you Will not get anywhere hiding your passions
Clea and her trusty assistant 🐢
Here's a more painted piece for Clea, loved her character even tho we know so little about her, I really hope that we can learn more about her side of the story at some point! For François, it makes sense for him to be Clea's best friend and pet turtle. And the idea of Verso giving him gestral hats to mess with his sister was too funny to ignore.
feminist killjoy hours again, what the actual fuck is “weird girl literature” and how often do we acquiesce to the latest degrading gendered advertising campaigns
Women did not fucking pioneer horror, thriller, and science fiction as we know it for publishing to infantilize it into a high school phase
is Stephen king “weird boy literature”? Or does he get to be an adult horror novelist?
