Just a random person interested in tc. Iâm reblogging infoposts, sometimes writing my own ones. I don't condone any crimes and don't sympathize with any of the perpetrators.
I often see these four photos being portrayed as Natsumi and Monami Tokusatsu (another female killer in Sasebo).
They are instead of Mahiro Hayashid, who was a singer in the girl group âFairiesâ.
You can see she has the same mole; shown in the first and second. And in the bottom right of photo one sheâs wearing the same hoodie shown in photo three.
I could only find a high quality photo of the first photo and not of the homepage, I did find the pumpkin icon though. The alleged website is ~yuugeki/nevada01.htm but it is no longer up. I find it very unlikely that this is natsumis website as I could not find any credible sources talking about it + the domain name is nevada, which the name was made by the internet AFTER the crime so I find it very unlikely that the website is actually hers.
In 2006 Yaroslavl teenagers â Alexey "Dead" Chistyakov and Konstantin "Fang" Baranov formed an alternative group focused on satanism and occultism.
In 2007, Nikolai "Count" Ogolobyak joined Chistyakov and Baranov through an initiation ritual, involving the sacrifice of a small animal to the Devil.
In that year three more peers â Anton "Doctor Goth" Makovkin, Sergey "Distris" Karpenko and Alexander "Hitler" "Crow" Voronov joined the group, each undergoing the same procedure as Ogolobyak. Voronov was the final addition before the murders occured.
What began as childlike rebellion escalated into something far darker. The group, initially learning prayers found online and vandalizing local cemeteries soon spiraled into heinous acts like sacrificing small animals, robbing graves, murder and engaging in cannibalism.
On the evening of June 28th, the satanist group gathered at Ogolobyak's apartment to initiate Kovaleva, Baranov's girlfriend, into their ranks. Typically, their initation ritual involved killing and burning small animals, but that night Ogolobyak and Baranov decided to escalate the ritual by sacrificing humans to make the offering more significant. They selected Anna Gorokhova and Olga Pukhova who were on their way to Ogolobyak's apartment, deeming them perfect sacrifices and introduced their plan to their other friends who didn't protest.
When the girls arrived, Baranov instructed Kovaleva to intoxicate the girls and distract them with talking while they headed to their regular ritual site, located just 300 meters away from Ogolobyak's house.
The nine-member group arranged themselves in a pentagram around the fire. Olya was paired with Makovkin and Anya with Ogolobyak, positioned to face each other to witness their deaths, intensifying the ritual's effect. Baranov began reciting a satanic prayer with Kovaleva repeating after him, while the others chanted "Ave Satanas" in the background. At Baranov's signal, the boys started stabbing the girls with daggers.
There was not a single part of their bodies left untouched. Kovaleva's face was smeared with the blood of the deceased.
After that, the dismemberment started. Hearts, breasts, genitals, removed scalps, hands, arms and legs â everything separated. Some parts of their bodies were roasted on the fire and eaten. Makovkin and Ogolobyak even took pictures with the severed heads, further mocking the victims.
After the ritual, the group returned home. The following day they planned to initiate Alexey "Dark" Solovyev from Rybinsk into the group using the same ritual as Kovaleva's initiation. The killings continued, with the new victims being a couple â Andrey Sorokin and Varvara Kuzmina.
Andrey himself called Ogolobyak, intending to bring his new girlfriend, Varya, to the meeting, unaware that this would lead them to their tragic deaths.
Varya, an oridinary and compliant girl felt slightly uneasy around the group of unfamiliar teenagers. She managed to call her friend to express her discomfort;
"I don't like it here... Everything is not like Andryusha said... I'll tell you later (...) There is a bunch of alternatives here, all in black. "
Varya told her friend over the phone that she only knew Andrey at the gathering, and that Kovaleva was the only other girl present. She promised to share more details the next day and hung up. However, the following day, Varya didn't answer her friend's calls.
Hearing the conversation, Baranov ordered Kovaleva to get Varya drunk and to persuade her to stay. After calming the girl down down, the ritual started.
Makovkin and Ogolobyak were tasked with dealing the first blows again, but Andrey sensed something was wrong and knocked the knife from Makovkin's hands. The others quickly intervened, brutally beating him. Andrey sustained 266 wounds on his torso and over 600 across his entire body. Ogolobyak reportedly counted the stabs, stopping when he reached 666.
Both teenagers were beheaded, dismembered and cannibalized. This time Solovyov's face was washed in blood, marking his initiation into the group.
Makovkin was the most relentless of the murderers â tirelessly dismembering the bodies even after the others had grown exhausted.
All four corpses were buried in pairs and their clothes were burned in the fire.

Investigation
The victims weren't initially searched for, as it was assumed they were attending a local music festival called "Invasion." The official case was opened a month later on July 28th, when the teenagers were officialy declared missing.
Chistyakov was the first one to be apprehended by the police and quickly confessed. On August 12, he lead authorities to the field and revealed the burial site. Using chat logs, the police identified and detained Ogolobyak, Baranov, Kovaleva and Makovkin on August 13. The following day, August 14, Voronov, Solovyov and Karpenko were also detained.
After their arrest, all suspects underwent psychiatric evaluations. The group was declared sane, except for Makovkin, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia. However, some investigator suspected he was faking the condition to evade punishment, leaving the truth unclear.
The investigation spanned nearly 3 years due to the difficulty in identifying the victim's dismembered and decomposed body parts.
"The knife, which I used to kill Olyechka and Varyusha."
The trial began on February 24, 2010 and concluded on July 26, 2010, with case material spanning over 35 volumes. During the final hearing the Satanists displayed arrogance and apathy toward their punishment, showed no remorse or pleading for mercy.
On May 21 2010, Sergey Karpenko's lawyer died by suicide for undisclosed reasons, and a new attorney was appointed to represent the defendant.
Nikolai Ogolobyak was sentenced to 20 years in a penal colony.
Konstantin Baranov and Alexander Voronov were sentenced to 10 years in a general regime colony.
Alexey Chistyakov and Alexey Solovyov were given 9 years each in a general regime colony.
Ksenia Kovaleva was sentenced to eight years in a general regime colony.
Sergei Karpenko, who only watched the murders, was sentenced to 2 years in a colony.
The court declared Anton Makovkin insane. He was sent for compulsory treatment.

Voronov's Confession
"I, Voronov Alexander Nikolaevich, wish to confess the following: in July 2006, together with my friends, namely Baranov, Chistyakov, Ogolobyak and Makovkin, went to the South Cemetery in Rybinsk for a walk and to drink alcohol. Ogolobyak suggested digging up a fresh grave.."
According to Voronov's full confession, Chistyakov retrieved a shovel and the group took turns digging. They broke into a coffin and extracted the fresh corpse of a girl. Ogolobyak used a knife to cut open the chest and remove the heart, while Makovkin instructed the group to dismember the corpse and everyone complied.
The police were already familiar with the headless, limbless corpse found in the forest near the cemetery, missing the heart and breasts, which the teenagers had consumed. Initially, they classified it as a murder case
"I didn't feel pity when I killed, the sight of the blood excited me. I was very amused by the thought of sitting with the "almost dead". "
"I regret that I was ordered to kill Olyechka, and not Anya. It would be so interesting, amusing and romantic, because I knew she liked me. It would be nicer to kill a person who loves you, to look her in the eyes and kiss her while slitting her throat. I loved the taste of human meat."

Victims
Varvara Kuzmina, 16
Varya ended up at the ritual site on accident, having no interest in Satanism or alternative fashion. She only attended because of her boyfriend Andrey, who was already well-acquainted with the group. She followed him to Ogolobyak's apartment and then to the field where she met her tragic end.
Varya Kuzmina, 16
Andrey Sorokin, 16
Andrey was studying to be a cook, promising his parents to bring more money to the house. He was a very positive and romantic boy, writing love poems for Varya and even crying because of her multiple times.
Andrey Sorokin, 16
Olya Pukhova, 15
Olya was studying to be an insurance agent at a vocational school, where she happened to befriend her future killer â Chistyakov.
Olya Pukhova, 15, together with Sorokin
Anya Gorokhova, 16
Anya studied at the same school as Olya, where they became friends.

As of 2025, all of the Satanists are roaming free.
Nikolai Ogolobyak was pardoned by the president himself in 2023 for serving in the army. He lived in Yaroslavl with his mother, before being arrested again for drug possession in 2024 and getting sentenced to 10 years.
Ksenia Kovaleva was realeased from prison early due to leukemia. Some sources claimed she passed away, other that she's alive and still posting on social media to this day.
Alexey Solovyov was released from the colony in 2017 and moved out of Yaroslavl with a presumed girlfriend.
Alexey Chistyakov, Konstantin Baranov and Alexander Voronov were also released from prison and returned to normal life. Apparently Chistyakov and Solovyov still communicate with each other.
Makovkin left the psychiatric ward in 2011, just a year after the sentencing.
Sergey Karpenko got released and has a daughter now.
There is still a lot to say about that case... That being said, if you have any questions concerning it feel free to message me or send asks. Thank you for reading.
âBorn Evilâ and the Case of Shanda Sharerâs Killers
(Shanda Sharer 1979 - 1992) (Melinda, Laurie, Toni & Hope)
These past couple months Iâve been reading a lot more than usual on Shandaâs case, as itâs a particularly interesting one to me â and I recently received a DM asking me if I believed that her killers were âborn evilâ, and if I even agreed with that concept in the first place. I was really delighted that someone was asking my opinion of it and saw me to be educated on the topic enough to hold my opinion to that sort of value, so I replied. However, I have been wanting to do a full, more in-depth post on what I believe to be the motivations/psyche of the girls who took the life of Shanda Sharer, and whether or not they were âborn evil.â I study psychology so I consider things like this all the time but having this blog I can actually write out these thoughts and perhaps hope someone may agree with me. Or at least find interest in it and perhaps want to share their own opinion.
Sidenote: The concept of âborn evilâ is regarded a lot when looking at people such as serial killers, but definitely more so when considering a young person or child who has committed a heinous act, which is interesting. I believe some individuals feel it is impossible to be warped enough by circumstance, trauma etc. enough by the time they are the age they are when they murder, so have to avert their attention to the fact that perhaps some individuals are just born capable of doing something such as murder, rape or torture. We tend to think of kids as innocent, helpless and trouble-free beings, but I do not feel that is necessarily true.
I want to preface by saying anything I say onwards is not an excuse for the atrocities committed, Iâm just trying to simply make sense of the brutal crime committed by four teenage girls.
To begin with analysing and delving into the question on whether Melinda Loveless, Hope Rippey, Laurie Tackett or Toni Lawrence were âborn evilâ I first want to express that, on a conceptual level, I do not agree with the idea (in general, not just in this instance). Scientifically and philosophically, it is impossible. Human beings are born with very little emotional intelligence as babies and emotions/empathy are learned as you grow â I think of children as blank slates (as Sigmund Freud says, âmoral blank slatesâ) rather than âgoodâ or âbad.â Our brains are like sponges, we soak up whatever we are surrounded with, whether that be love, or something less positive. So, in short, no, these girls were not born âevil.â They were once young and innocent children who relied on the care and protection of their parents, they once knew nothing of how to hurt someone, or how to be hurt in return.
I think itâs quite problematic to write off an individual as âborn evil,â especially when considering the four I am going to talk about more in a moment. âEvilâ implies something paranormal or satanic I feel, unnatural, someone âborn wrong.â In reality, none of these are what cause individuals to be, or do things our society considers evil â it is almost always, if not always, due to the result of psychological trauma, or a mental illness/personality disorder. Writing off a person, even if they have done something morally reprehensible, as evil and âborn wrongâ shifts away the blame from sociological, environmental, psychological factors (and more) that shaped them into who they are and caused them to do what they did.
For example, an abusive parent. Saying âMelinda Loveless was born evilâ is first of all, scientifically impossible, as âevilâ does not exist as a concept in neuroscience â if you want to get technical people can be born with a predisposition to things such as anti-social personality disorder, which can lead to âimmoralâ or âevilâ behaviour, but this is not guaranteed. And like most things, a social construct (immorality I mean, ASPD is very much proven). Not only is it scientifically and some could argue philosophically impossible but claiming this by proxy neglects to hold her abusive father accountable for the years of rape and abuse he subjected her and her mother & sisters to. It fails to critique and hold accountable the system that failed to prevent this too, and causes no blame to fall onto her mother, blame which is deserved as she, as I will get into later, let her children be abused for so long.
The same statements can be made for Laurie, Hope and Toni, but are all (in my opinion) very incorrect, even Toni or Hope, who compared to the other two had somewhat easy and abuse free upbringings. Aside from that, humans are complex individuals and canât be summed up in one word as a general rule.
Another argument I see quite often is the one of: âWell, XYZ had an abusive upbringing/traumatic experience too and didnât go on to XYZâ (in this instance we can use the actions of Melinda and co. as an example). This argument to me has many flaws. The first being the inarguable truth that all humans are different. We have different biological, psychological, emotional makeup and therefore will experience things differently. We are affected differently and deal with things such as emotion and trauma in different ways. You can put two people in the same room and have them experience the same exact thing, and they will come out with different responses. People are born with different foundations too, which are formed by genetics and also their environment.
Secondly, abuse can occur in many different ways, (this is a main reason for my first point on this topic I feel) and for different periods of time. Someone may have also experienced CSA, but it is nearly impossible the experience was the exact same as another personâs â specific details can vary, and although they can seem insignificant in the whole situation, they can still have a noticeable change. There is also a point to be made that not everyone has the same resources when coping or attempting to heal from their trauma, whether that be money, support (emotional or otherwise), access to proper medical care/therapy.
In short, people respond differently to trauma that is perceived similar or âthe sameâ compared to other people in society due to a combination of individual differences in personality, foundation in their worldview/prior experiences, coping mechanisms, and the specific details of the traumatic event. I believe these girls, Melinda and Laurie specifically, chose to respond to their situations in the worst way possible for a multitude of different reasons â hurting and killing a human instead of trying to end the cycle of abuse. Does that make them bad people? Yes. Does it give an excuse for Shandaâs murder? No.
I cannot stress enough that I donât excuse their actions, and I no doubt feel the torture and murder of poor Shanda *was* evil, but the act itself. Not the girls as individuals. Evil by its very definition is âan act devoid of morality, compassion or mercy.â The murder was evil â the girls were not. You may ask how I can separate the two, and I admit it is not easy to do so sometimes, but I shall try to explain as best as I can.
I believe on that night, and in general, the girls were all suffering with mental illness, trauma, and/or a personality disorder, and were feeding off of each other in the worst way possible. Studies show some of the worst murders are committed by groups (e.g. Junko Furuta, Sylvia Likens), some of which consist of individuals who probably would not even murder by themselves. A group mentality makes someone double down, it makes them nervous to go against the grain, it makes them think âoh this person has done this, Iâm going to one up them and do this.â It is why in cases like these the torture of the victim tends to get worse as time goes on and tends to escalate until death is used â not always because the individuals want to kill - but because they want to get rid of evidence.
All four girls; Melinda, Laurie, Toni, and Hope claimed that it was âpeer pressureâ that had caused them to do what they did, and whilst I do feel it played a part, I donât feel that is necessarily all true.
Melinda Lovelessâ Upbringing/Personality Before the Murder
(L: Melinda aged 5, R: Melinda aged 10) (Melinda with her friend, Crystal)
Starting with Melinda Loveless, Loveless had, as I described earlier, an extremely abusive and traumatic childhood from the ages of 1 to 14, so the majority of her life before the murder. Her father, Larry Loveless, was a violent, sexually, and physically abusive drunk. He would rape his wife in front of the Loveless children, forced her into swinging/orgies (some of which Melinda and her sisters witnessed), and would get drunk, proceeding to violently beat her.
Merely witnessing the domestic abuse occurring in her household would have had a serious impact on Melinda, as witnessing domestic violence in itself is child abuse (the individual is also considered a victim of DV too). Research highlights some of the effects of witnessing DA in the home which present when an individual is still a child, but also as they grow older into a teen/young adult: âacting out in negative ways such as missing school or fighting with family members, having low self-esteem, finding it difficult to make friends, engaging in risky behaviours such as using alcohol and other drugs.â
It is important to note even before Loveless met Laurie Tackett she was exhibiting all of these behaviours. Loveless was actually the oldest in her school at the time she met Shanda Sharer, she was sixteen whilst the other oldest kids wouldâve been fifteen, as Loveless had been held back a year. This was not only due to her poor academic performance, but the fact she had been missing so much school she wasnât able to graduate. The teen also had poor self-esteem, and would self-soothe with alcohol, having frequent periods of alcoholism throughout her early-mid teens (reminiscent of her father).
Melinda, despite being popular with boys due to her good looks, had few friends, and did not fit in with the popular kids due to her style, aggressive attitude, and sexuality.
(Melinda, aged sixteen) (Melinda with her mother, Marjorie)
Unfortunately, Loveless and her siblings did not just witness abuse, but were abused first-hand themselves. At trial Melinda denied her father had ever sexually abused her, however psychologists who analysed her said her behaviour was corresponding to those of a sexual abuse victim. Later on, she admitted having memories of sexual abuse occurring but had considered them simply nightmares she had as a child (perhaps as a trauma response). Furthermore, a cousin witnessed Melindaâs father, Larry Loveless, raping Melinda and her sisters on multiple occasions.
When Loveless was very young, and her father had become a religious preacher for their local church, he had ordered Melinda to receive an âexorcismâ â which consisted of leaving her, still almost a toddler, alone in a motel room with a middle-aged man. No doubt abuse occurred in that instance too.
I am of the belief many underestimate the effects of sexual abuse, and that many believe it perhaps only effects your relationship with sex/your body. The truth is unfortunately that it has an impact on every aspect of your life to an immense degree. Some general and well-known long-term effects of CSA (child sexual abuse) include: emotional instability (intense anger, upset etc. for seemingly no reason), difficulty participating in healthy relationships â not just sexual but all forms, familial, romantic, platonic â immense shame and guilt, issues with power dynamics/persistent feeling of powerlessness accompanied by low self-esteem, sexual difficulties such as becoming hypersexual (not the same as a high sex drive) or developing an aversion to anything sexual, PTSD (nightmares and flashbacks to the instance are common), dissociation, memory problems, empathy deficit. Â Loveless exhibits most if not all of these.
Suprisingly also, despite acting older than her age in some aspects of her life (style, sexual activity, drug and alcohol use), Melinda was very immature in other ways. Some report she would watch cartoons, exclusively played with dolls and still wet the bed at aged 15 (a futher sign of sexual abuse in children and young adults) - her mother claimed this was true, and that she had a hard time accepting what Melinda did for this very reason, she still saw her daughter as a baby. Psychologists who later examined Loveless after the murder noted she "functioned emotionally at the level of a five-year-old child", that her childhood had "profoundly retarded her", and this would be the case no doubt before the murder too. I believe Melinda acted this way as she did not have the neccesary emotional development that is normal of healthy individuals due to the psychological and neurological effects of her abusive upbringing. Her brain never had the chance to mature along with the rest of her body.
(Melinda Loveless' bedroom at her home in New Albany)
Regarding other members of the Loveless family, and their role in the abuse, Melindaâs mother Marjorie was aware of most of this going on. Although one instance on the Maury Povich show which she participated in as a guest, she claimed she had âno knowledgeâ of the abuse. However, it is most likely that this is untrue as Melindaâs father was not secretive at all about his perversions and daily activities around the house â which included gathering his young daughters underwear and proceeding to masturbate onto them, and place the soiled underwear about the house as well as on the windowsills for neighbours to see. Marjorie attempted to end her life on multiple occasions, Melinda finding her once after her mother had swallowed a large amount of pills, no doubt a traumatic event.
As one can only imagine, Melindaâs home had no sense of normalcy, instability persisting until one day her parents divorced once she was fourteen. Having perceived her father as abandoning her, Melindaâs behaviour only spiralled â now losing one of her parental figures, who she was very attached to. She blamed her mother, and this caused tension in the family. An instance of a suicide attempt occured some months after Larry Loveless left the household for good, and sent Melinda a postcard saying he was getting married to another woman. She hadn't even been invited. Later that day her older sister Michelle found her lent over the sink having tried to swallow a large amount of pills, Melinda was 14 years old. It was around this age she first met Amanda Heavrin.
Individuals with Bipolar Personality Disorder, a personality disorder Melinda was later diagnosed with, tend to be very hot and cold in romantic relationships if their personality disorder is not recognised or given the proper management. I believe Melinda didnât see things in shades of grey: everything was black and white. She either loved Amanda and viewed the girl as the centre of her universe, or hated her and would become very aggressive toward her. This is shown through the fact that originally the plan Melinda, Laurie and the others used to lure Shanda out the night of January 11th was also used months before in an attempt to âteach Amanda a lessonâ. Melinda and her friend had planned to lure Amanda into the friendâs car under the same pretext, then in which they would drive her to a secluded section of the woods and beat her up. Even Melindaâs loved ones were not protected from her violent mood swings.
Her dichotomous thinking (black & white view of things) could also explain why she placed little blame on Amanda during the situation with Shanda and the love triangle. She didnât see the shades of grey in the situation; that yes, although Shanda had a crush on Heavrin and that they had âgone out togetherâ, Shanda in the end decided the relationship wasnât worth it, yet Amanda kept up contact despite Shanda's refusals. Melinda also neglected to realise Amanda was more at fault for still pursuing the girl despite stringing Loveless along too. To Melinda, the situation was very simple, Shanda was stealing Heavrin away from her.
As well as dichotomous thinking and emotional mood swings, individuals with BPD can have what they refer to as their âfavourite personâ â a person, normally a crush or romantic partner, who they revolve their mere existence around. It is more than an intense crush; it is more akin to an obsession.
Knowing what I know about the case, and Melindaâs state of mind in the years she knew Amanda, I would not find it a stretch to say that perhaps Amanda was Melindaâs âfavourite person.â It explains why her possessiveness and jealousy where her girlfriend was concerned went past mere protectiveness. In one instance, Melinda proceeded to pepper spray and seriously injure a boy who had been âbotheringâ Amanda (either teasing or flirting with her). I believe Lovelessâ attachment to Amanda Heavrin didnât solely lay with her Borderline Personality Disorder though, I do believe Melindaâs central relationship with her abusive father played a part too. In multiple sources (mainly Aphrodite Jonesâ book on the case, âCruel Sacrificeâ) itâs stated that Melinda was first drawn to/attracted to Heavrin as she looked like her dad, Larry Loveless (upon looking at pictures of the two I do find this to be somewhat true).
Melinda seeing Amanda and her father one in the same also explains how aggressive and abusive Loveless would be towards the other girl. She would be rough during sex, would blow up at the mere notion of Amanda even breathing near another girl, and would slap her for the same reason. She definitely had a lot of pent-up anger at her dad for his abandonment of her, so perhaps used Amanda as an outlet for this. Loveless also admitted to Aphrodite Jones in an interview for âCruel Sacrificeâ that sheâd âforce Amanda to have sexâ with her, highlighting how the sexual abuse she herself suffered had caused her to obtain a warped view of sex in relationships. (This also would later on fuel my suspicion that both Melinda and Laurie sodomised Shanda with the tire iron.)
This is not to say Amanda was a âperfect victimâ though, despite the fact she was a victim of Melindaâs physical and sexual abuse (which should never be defended), throughout the relationship, and especially when she met Shanda, Heavrin would harm others. She would dismiss the feelings of both Shanda and Melinda, humiliate both of them, and overall would play Shanda and Melinda against each other during the months leading up to the murder. Heavrin clearly liked the attention and did not consider either girls feelings or safety during the whole ordeal â safety, as Melinda had threatened to beat up, and even kill Shanda, multiple times if her and Amanda continued seeing each other behind Lovelessâ back. Heavrin was also a very bad influence on those around her, encouraging others to partake in destructive behaviours.
Laurie Tackettâs Upbringing/Personality Before the Murder
Moving onto Laurie Tackett, Tackett didnât have a much easier childhood either. Her parents and family were very religious, oppressively so; her mother was a fundamentalist Pentecostal Christian, who claimed she had visions (in reality she was most likely suffering from religious psychosis). Her father shared the same faith despite being a convicted felon, there is no information anywhere explaining what he was convicted of, however it is of the belief he had a prison record starting from the 1960s. For a long period of time, Laurie went along with her familyâs wishes of her, and they upheld strange standards. They (the children, Laurie and her brother Bubby included) did not own a TV, were not allowed to listen to non-religious tunes and could only wear conservative and gender-appropriate clothing.
(Laurie Tackett, aged unknwon) (Tackett's local church)
Tackett herself had never acted out, really, but found out the consequences for doing so one day of May 1989 at aged fourteen, when over a period of time she had been sneaking things to wear at school like jeans. Her mother caught her and proceeded to strangle her so hard the girl was left with bruises. Child protective services were called, and the Tackettâs later on agreed to unannounced visits to âensure child abuse was not occurring.â Iâd argue it already was occurring in a multitude of ways, as this was not the only instance Laurie had said her mother had physically attacked her. Laurie and her mother had an especially turbulent relationship; at one point, her mother went to Hope Rippey's house after learning that Rippey's father had purchased a Ouija board for the girls. She demanded that the board be burnt and that the Rippey house be exorcised. This highlights the strict religious doctrine the Tackett household was under, which must have been suffocating for a growing adolescent like Laurie.
In an effort to push back, she became increasingly rebellious after her fifteenth birthday and also became fascinated with the occult. This is quite a common occurrence with individuals raised in strict, religious households â many try to find the most outlandish thing that can anger their religious parents, and most of the time it has something to do with satanism or the occult. Research states the biggest reasons those raised in authoritarian and religious householdsâ rebel are strict rules, fear-based teachings, and a lack of personal connection with faith. Some individuals like Laurie, might feel stifled by the constraints of religious life & seek autonomy. They may also explore different belief systems â this can include questioning the teachings of the belief system that has been imposed upon them, many finding it incompatible with their own experiences or values.
Aside from the oppressive and abusive household she was raised in, Laurie also claimed she had been molested multiple times at different ages throughout her life. The last time being in her teens after her and a boy had taken drugs together. During the trial for Shandaâs murder, prosecution would point out the discrepancies in Laurieâs stories and put forward thinly veiled attempts to paint Laurie as a liar. Tackett was, in fact, a compulsive liar and lied multiple times throughout the trial. However, it would be wrong to dismiss her allegations of sexual assault, as the last accusation against a boy of the same age seemed rather credible. Whether or not she was a victim of CSA, either way Laurie had a very hard upbringing.
Due to this as she got older, she would act out often and would often attempt to impress her friends by pretending to be possessed by the spirit of "Deanna the Vampire", who she claimed to be another personality of hers. The 15-year-old began to engage in self-harm, especially after early 1991 when she began dating a girl who was involved in the practice. Laurie described it as a sort of âspiritual release,â she was incredibly depressed and frustrated with her life, with her parentsâ treatment of her. Mr and Mrs Tackett discovered the self-mutilation and checked her into a hospital on March 19, 1991. Throughout her stay there, although her parents were concerned, Laurie found them to be angrier with her than curious as to why the incident had occurred in the first place.
(Laurie, aged seventeen) (The Tackett's family home in Madison)
She was prescribed an anti-depressant and released. But it seemed not to matter, as two days later, with her girlfriend and Toni Lawrence, she cut her wrists deeply and was returned to the hospital. After treatment of her wound, she was admitted to the hospital's psychiatric ward. There Laurie was diagnosed with BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder), the same as Melinda would be found to have during the murder trial and confessed that she had experienced hallucinations since she was a young child. Regarding the young womanâs BPD diagnosis, adolescents with borderline personality disorder (BPD) often come from households marked by adverse childhood experiences; abuse, neglect, or exposure to family conflict. Abuse and family conflict certainly applying to Laurieâs household, and all three applying to the Loveless household.
Specifically, maladaptive parenting styles have been found by research to be present in a lot of parents who raise children with BPD. A maladaptive parenting style consists of harshness, criticism, and a lack of emotional validation. Laurieâs mother was harsh, critical, and did not validate Laurieâs upset often, later on as her daughter got older tying her own emotional issues to her perceived rebellion/fascination with the occult. Her father is also guilty of not validating Laurieâs emotions â rushing her out of professional mental health care, which I will touch on in a moment. BPD is also often developed due to trauma, for instance the possible sexual abuse she had experienced.
Despite the very concerning admission, and the fact Laurie had now attempted to harm herself multiple times, author Aphrodite Jones wrote that during Tackettâs stay in the mental hospital, her parents seemed very eager to get her discharged. Her mental state seemed to come second to this goal, and Laurieâs father spent long hours convincing the therapists his daughter was fine. Laurieâs mother, was even worse, flying into rages, claiming Laurie was a devil-worshipper, and that this was the root of all her psychological issues. Unfortunately, the girl was discharged less than a month later, on April 12, seeming to be no better than she had been when she had been admitted. No therapy or counselling was set up (or at least followed through with) concerning Tackettâs new BPD diagnosis, and no further checks were conducted on her, leaving her in the exact same place she had started.
She dropped out of high school the same year (September 1991) with little resistance from her parents and stayed in the Louisville area. October 1991 onwards was a period marked with instability in Laurieâs life â she couch surfed and lived with various friends in different areas. Habits of alcohol, drugs and self-harm continued, by late November she had struck up a friendship with Melinda Loveless. At first Melinda was wary of her due to her intimidating physical appearance and strange behaviour, but soon the two found common ground. Their friendship developed more despite the fact in December Tackett moved back to Madison on the promise that her father would buy her a car. Despite the move she still spent most of her time in Louisville and New Albany, and, by December, most of it with Melinda Loveless.
(Laurie heading into her sentencing trial) (Melinda, aged sixteen)
Melinda was not Laurieâs only friend at the start of September 1991, but by January of 1992, she for the most part was (aside from another girl who would be present that horrific night, Hope Rippey). Regarding other friendsâ views of Laurie Tackett, well, the girl was not very well-liked. Kary Pope, a friend of both Melinda and Laurieâs stated (as quoted by Michael Quinlan in his book âLittle Lost Angelâ), âLaurie doesn't keep friends for a very long time. When she makes a friend she'll lie to them, she'll steal for them, she'll do anything to keep that friend. When I stopped hanging around with her, she told people that she was going to put a death spell on me. She was into witchcraft and stuff like that. I got scared of her and tried to keep away from her, but she kept bothering me. She'd call me up and disguise her voice and threaten me. Melinda had told me that if she had a chance, she would kill Shanda. Laurie was the type of person that would probably help her just to keep her as a friend."
Her other ex-friends had noticed she exhibited behaviours that made even them, those deemed by society as the âoutsidersâ, extremely uncomfortable: Laurie would cry and scream at the drop of a hat, pretend to âswitch personalitiesâ (psychologists found she did not actually have DID), would participate in extreme self-harm, pretend to be possessed by spirits, ask to drink the blood of friends and girlfriends & more. Melinda was not of an extremely differing opinion, however thought she got on with Tackett well despite the girlâs obvious disturbances. In a way, the fact Laurie was so unpredictable and obsessed with violence made her a perfect right-hand man.
Hope Rippeyâs Upbringing/Personality Before the Murder
The average person, upon learning of Hopeâs childhood and home life would consider it, compared to Melinda and Laurieâs, relatively trauma-free. There was no emotional, physical, or sexual abuse, and Hope accordingly showed no symptoms consistent with any of this trauma. She did, however, seem to have a pretty bad attitude according to some reports. To me it seems the opinions on Hope would vary depending on who you asked: her parents regarded her as a normal healthy young girl, albeit rather sensitive and squeamish. Some teachers would agree and say she was an average student and did not have any glaring issues.
(Hope, aged thirteen) (Hope, aged fifteen)
However, a few select teachers and other individuals who knew the girl described her as having an âattitude problemâ â she would talk back and would get into fights relatively consistently. It seemed she was a chameleon of sorts, her personality shifting around whoever she was with (this backs up general consensus that she was indeed a follower); her parents disapproved of her friendship with Laurie Tackett fearing the girl and the others she associated with were a bad influence. Hope, Laurie, and Toni would do things together such as self-harm, drink alcohol and take drugs.
The youngest girl out of the three wasnât forced though, she willingly took part in these activities and was rather promiscuous. Regarding her argumentative side and tendency of solving issues with her fists seems to stem from some of the rougher aspects of her childhood: her two older brothers would physically fight each other constantly, in front of anyone. Some of these fights would occur over menial, mundane things such as her brothers reaching for salt at the dinner table at the same time.
Hopeâs parents also went through quite a rough divorce, and they moved around multiple times during Hopeâs pre-teen years â her home was not conflict-free.
It is of my belief that Hope Rippey during the years leading up to Shandaâs murder was a rather troubled and vulnerable girl who saw violence as the easiest way to solve a problem. She was also extremely conscious of what others thought of her; an example of this was when she started middle school, she abandoned beloved hobbies to fit in more with the cooler kids. Rippey from an early age showed signs of becoming an extremely talented musician, apparently being able to play a song on the piano after only hearing it a couple times but threw away her chances at a good career in music so she could further fit in at school. This was when she started partaking in things such as drinking, drugs and self-harm with Toni and Laurie.
Despite all this, Hope was found to have no underlying mental illnesses or personality disorders, never receiving any counselling growing up etc. or needing to visit any doctors regarding her mental health. I would disagree with the fact she was an entirely healthy young woman though, as she participated in the murder of a twelve-year-old. I am not discrediting the licensed therapists who were assigned to look at her during the trial, but surely, they shouldâve found something? To this day, to me Hope is the hardest to understand of the four, and I donât think that is changing anytime soon. Later on, I will put forward my theory on her mindset during the murder.
In conclusion, Hopeâs personality in her life leading up to Shandaâs tragic demise was one of an average rowdy teenager with perhaps predisposition to an alcohol or drug addiction (which she would later go on to have in prison according to multiple sources), not one of a child murderer (and possible molester).
Toni Lawrenceâs Upbringing/Personality Before the Murder
Like Hopeâs, compared to Laurie and Melindas, Toniâs childhood is abuse free. Also, unlike Hope, Toni had no problems at home. Mr and Mrs Lawrence thought of their daughter as a sweet, smart young girl and treated her as such, spoiling her maybe more than they shouldâve. Many report Toniâs childhood was rich both in affection and financially too â her family had a home in the more âaffluentialâ area of Indiana. She attended kindergarten with Hope, and the two soon became inseparable. Despite drifting slightly as they grew up, they kept a good friendship, and not soon after meeting also befriended Laurie Tackett too.
Most who knew her considered Toni quiet and shy, an introvert by nature, even when she was a young child. She was very much into art and poetry, sketching, painting, and writing poems were some of her favourite activities even as she became an adult. And she was allowed to explore the arts freely, her family having the necessary resources to give her (mostly) whatever her heart desired. To Lawrence, this was standard in her home and way of life, however most would consider the control she had over her parents to be somewhat brattish. Many considered her spoilt, even when she was mid into her teens. One of her teachers recall how, despite the Lawrences living a short walk away from Madison Junior Highschool, she would demand her mother drive her there - which she did without complaint.
(Toni, aged sixteen) (Madison Junior Highschool)
However, Toni's life took a turn for the worse when a year before the murder occurred, at aged fourteen Toni was raped by a boy she knew (assumably from school). She had also been previously molested at the age of nine by a relative (no sources state whether any legal action was taken because of this instance though). However, when she was raped at age fourteen the Lawrenceâs tried to press charges and reported it to the police after Toniâs mother had found a letter Toni had sent to a friend detailing the incident. Despite her mother and father doing the right thing, nothing came of the report due to police incompetence; the police simply told the boy to stay away from Toni (no official restraining order was filed).
This was the incident that saw the start of Lawrence partaking in the destructive behaviours already being exhibited by Hope and Laurie too. She became even more withdrawn and depressed as once some of her classmates found out about the SA, they victim blamed her, and slut shamed her, defending the boy who had violated her. Clearly, she saw the acts of self-harm, unprotected sex, and drugs/drinking as a means of escape and release from her pain â distracting herself long enough to forget anything was ever wrong.
I also imagine her first run in with the police, regarding her trying to report an acquaintance for raping her, and the subsequent dismissal of her victimisation and pain, would have had placed extreme distrust in the police on her end. If a boy could rape her and get away with it, what was the point of the police? They hadnât helped her then and certainly wouldnât if anything were to happen in the future.
Psychologists who analysed her for the murder trial discovered she had ASPD and PTSD (which I will touch on later). ASPD, Anti-Social Personality Disorder has many markers, one of the main ones being: self-destructive and attention seeking behaviour, proneness to substance abuse/misuse, disregard for morals or rules, and extreme opposition to authority. These were definitely exhibited by Toni prior to the incident with Shanda and manifested in her spoilt and defiant behaviour with her parents, self-harm, reckless behaviour/rule breaking and substance abuse. Some would be exhibited more clearly later on, too.
Whether she had ASPD from a young age or developed it as a response to the rape is not concrete, however I would theorise it was developed in response to the trauma from her SA â as there is a clear shift in behaviour pre and post incident (you can also argue if you agree with this too that she perhaps had it from a young age, but it became more severe due to her trauma).
Going back to the initial question I received in my inbox, I do not believe that Melinda Loveless, Laurie Tackett, Hope Rippey or Toni Lawrence were âborn evil,â or are âevil.â To sum up my opinions of them that night, I think they were four teenage girls high on adrenaline, most with mental illness and 3/4 having personality disorders, feeding off of each other in the worst ways. Returning back to the theme seen in some group murders of âone-uppingâ I do not necessarily think that applies here, as it suggests a level of competition. As much as Laurie and Melinda would be at each otherâs throats for the trial and so on, I donât think they were competing. They were working together, in that moment they were co-existing and helping each other. Laurie more so helping Melinda than the other way around. The same applying for Hope, and in a way, Toni too.
Starting with Melinda, I think her reasoning and mind-set is one of the clearer and easier ones to understand â however I do regard it a little more complicated than some originally assume. I think yes, it was mainly fuelled by jealousy, but I think there was more to it than that.
As shown of course by Melinda remarking sheâs âglad Shanda is out of me [Melindaâs] and Amandaâs life nowâ, Melinda expressed the desire to kill Shanda to stop her âinterferingâ in her and Amandaâs relationship. And to remove any threat of Amanda being âtaken awayâ from her. Individuals with BPD can be emotionally volatile at the prospect of losing their partner if their disorder is not regulated or treated with the proper care, and I believe this was a part of why she was so desperate to keep Amanda in her life. Another reason though why I think Melinda was so unstable and devastated at the idea of losing Heavrin was the relation she had with Melindaâs father.
Relation in the sense Amanda reminded Melinda greatly of her father, both in some interests and also appearance â perhaps Amanda leaving her would echo her fatherâs abandonment of her. This would be, to a girl as attached and immature as Melinda, the end of the world. I do not think Melinda was just jealous of Shanda, she was frightened of her, terrified of the prospect that Shanda could take away the one person who (Melinda thought) showed her affection, now that her father was gone and had started another family.
The murder had a practical aspect in the fact that Melinda committed the main atrocity of killing her innocent victim to be rid of her, sure. But the main reason for the torture was so that Loveless could teach her a lesson, inflict as much pain and humiliation as possible due to the girlâs jealousy and anger that had arisen from something that frankly was none of Shandaâs fault.
I think certain aspects of the torture such as the sodomy and stripping of Shandaâs clothes highlights a sexual element though. And I do believe Melinda had some sort of sick psychosexual obsession with Sharer, she displayed this multiple times, claiming to friends that Shanda âhad a nice buttâ, or was âsexyâ and that sheâd âlike to sleep with herâ, theorising maybe it would help her hate Shanda less if they had sex. In fact the night of the murder, Aphrodite Jones recounts in her retelling of the murder (backed up by witness statements from multiple individuals) that Loveless told Toni shortly before they headed to the slam concert that evening (after failing to lure Shanda into the car), and also before they had left and had been in Melindaâs room, that she "wanted to eat Shanda outâ, that she wanted to âtease her with the knife, and run it up and down her stomach.â
Considering the stark age difference between them, Melinda being sixteen and Shanda being twelve, it highlights a very concerning disturbance in Melindaâs psyche. It shows she views relations between younger and much older individuals as socially acceptable (at least enough to talk to friends about how sheâd like to sleep with a 12-year-old girl without worry they will find it concerning). I theorise this is tragically because of her father, Larry Loveless and the sexual abuse she suffered at his hands. He clearly normalised such relationships and conduct in her mind.
As well as the obsession, I think the sexual abuse inflicted on Sharer was also due to the fact that Melinda wanted to âconquerâ her, if it will. A reason why I hold this viewpoint is that after the murder, Melinda kept one of Shandaâs rings, describing it to crime author Aphrodite Jones as âalmost a wedding ringâ. Shandaâs sister, Paije, appears on the Dr Phil show years later claiming itâs "weird that Melinda thinks sheâs like, married to her [Shanda]â. I find Loveless to be a very immature and possessive individual, and I donât think this necessarily was a characteristic only when Amanda was involved â I believe Melinda was immature enough to have the view that if she done these things to Shanda, she would therefore âownâ her in some perverse way (this would also mean that she no longer âbelonged toâ Amanda).
Despite the sexual abuse most likely being committed by Melinda and Laurie, or Melinda alone, Loveless was claimed to have exhibited squeamishness at certain points of the murder: being grossed out when Laurie told her to smell the bloody tire iron, refusing to lift Shanda out of the car as she was once again squeamish because of the blood. She also was believed to have slapped a fragment of Shandaâs skull out of Laurieâs grasp when the blonde was showing it to her, claiming it was âdisgustingâ. Due to this I believe that although Loveless was very aggressive and did not shy away from physical fights, she did not get much gratification of any type from seeing the gory results of the violence (Shandaâs blood, fragments of her skull), unlike Laurie who very much did.
The stark contrast in her outwardly displayed behaviour; aggressive and apathetic during the murder, tearful and childlike other times could be attributed to mood swings or perhaps mania due to her BPD, however I am unsure of the likelihood of this, as if this was the case defence could have perhaps used it in Melindaâs favour as a mitigating factor. There was also no mention of it in the court documents I could find, however it is still a possibility. Either way, it is possibly the cause of her fluctuating attitudes to Shandaâs death â either she genuinely feels remorse sometimes and lacks it during others, or is overall apathetic and feigns emotion very well.
(Melinda Loveless, aged seventeen, being escorted by police)
When looking at Laurie though, from just after the murder took place it is clear she had very little remorse and probably still does not. Her role in the murder was more practical and hands-on, acting as the brawn to Melindaâs brains in a way. I believe this was the case not only because the other three definitely were more squeamish and less physically capable, but also due to the fact Laurie revelled in violence. Others who knew her said she had been fantasising about killing someone for a while â and Loveless gave her a perfect opportunity, as well as a perfect victim; due to Shandaâs age, the pair of older girls would have no doubt the advantage to overpower her. Shanda was vulnerable and Laurie would easily function as the aggressor, whereas if the victim had been older, or a male, they might have struggled. Perhaps Tackett saw the murder as a free trial for the things she had been wanting to do to someone. I do agree with most that Laurie probably would have killed again if the four hadnât been apprehended in the end.
(Laurie Tackett, aged seventeen, being escorted by police)
Tackett and Melindaâs meeting was the final nail in the coffin, as Melinda had the motivation but not the needed mindset or penchant for violence/brutality: she was squeamish and not as physically capable as Laurie, and Laurie had the needed mindset, penchant for brutality and physical capabilities. She had the car and the thirst for blood â she didnât even need a motivation. Both her and Melinda were feeding off of each other the most out of the four during the incident. They both were high on adrenaline and were very emotionally volatile, not only due to the high-stress and violent situation, but also due to the fuel of them both having borderline personalities.
As well as being obsessed with homicide, death, and violence in general, Tackett also had years of built-up anger against many things, the main being her parents and society in general. Some of this anger could have been directed towards Shanda too, as the girl was everything Laurie was not: âstereotypicallyâ beautiful, academically successful, athletic, but more importantly, incredibly popular. Everyone loved Shanda, and for good reason, the girl was incredibly magnetic and gentle to those around her. There is also the argument that if Laurie truly were sexually abused (either by relatives or schoolmates, or both), that this could explain the sodomy inflicted on Shanda.
My opinion of the crux of Melinda and Laurieâs relationship is that it was not only transaction (they both could give each other what they wanted) but anger, both girls were deeply angry at their lives and the world in general. They probably could relate to one another in ways others couldnât (this is one of the reasons that they are still friends to this day.)
The easiest of the fours mindset to grasp is Toni, as technically she did not act at all during the murder, which rules out any sadism or thirst for violence. Her main motive for her inaction I believe was fear, she was focused on self-preservation and the prevention of the other girls turning on her. Concern for herself outweighed empathy for Shanda & the natural protective instinct most people have when children are concerned, explaining why she only called a friend in one instance that night to âcalm herself downâ rather than to report that a little girl was in danger.
Lawrenceâs diagnosis with ASPD can explain her apathy & lack of concern for Shandaâs life and safety, and how she prioritised herself over another in a life-threatening situation. Her mindset on the situation after the murder, which remained the same after being released from prison, was that she could not have acted in a way which could have saved Shandaâs life. And that, she wanted to âput the whole thing behind herâ â this is not words of someone who holds themselves properly accountable. Lawrence seems to be somewhat remorseful, but like she did that night, prioritises her own self over doing what is right for others. Toni saw herself as another victim of the situation, rather than taking accountability.
Finally, moving onto Hope, she for me was the hardest to understand due to there being no (known) personality disorders or mental illness present â psychiatrists said she was abnormal because there was no abnormality. So unlike Melinda, Laurie and Toni, no scientific/psychological/medical reason can be given. Rippey claims she participated due to peer pressure, however that is unlikely to be entirely true. I do think that played a part, especially with how she ended up in the situation in the first place. However, the extent of torture she inflicted on Shanda, and her reactions/attitude to it all does not corroborate her story of her being terrified and peer pressured into helping, and in turn doing the bare minimum.
It does not explain why both times she went to Shandaâs door to lure her out, it does not explain her stealing Shandaâs belongings and laughing at the girls upset, taking Shandaâs bra and putting it on. Nor does it explain her getting out of the car to help hold Shanda down whilst Laurie and Melinda try to slit her throat, then spraying Windex on her wounds with, according to Melinda, an expression akin to one youâd have when dissecting an animal in an experiment, then mocking her. It does not explain the molestation Hope possibly took part in. It does not explain her helping move the 12-year-olds body out of the trunk, then proceeding to pour the first half of the Pepsi 2L of gasoline onto her. Hope claimed herself she knew they were going to âjust beat Shanda up,â and even then, that gives a statement of character â Rippey thought nothing of beating up a defenceless girl for entertainment.
It is clear from my last point, that Hope was incredibly desensitised to violence, and going back to what I said earlier in the analysis of her personality before the murder, saw violence as a solution to even the littlest of problems.
Perhaps Hopeâs mindset changed and grew as the night went on, first being excited and uncertain at the prospect of going to beat Shanda up. Then my opinion is that after they had taken her to Witches castle, beaten her up and stolen her belongings, and that once Laurie and Melinda started trying to cut and strangle her, Hope realised Loveless really was serious about ending Shandaâs life. Toni stated that in the car Hope seemed upset, but then got out to help hold Shanda down whilst the two girls attempted to cut her throat â I believe this couldâve been the turning point, Hopeâs acceptance of the fact that the only way this night was going to end was with Shanda dead. Otherwise, they would be caught, otherwise Laurie would drop her as a friend, otherwise Melinda and Laurie might hurt her and Toni.
Itâs possible that she, from then, had an attitude which could have been possibly half practical and objective, and half sadistic enjoyment. Rippey was the most hands on, aside from Laurie, helping move Shandaâs body, pour the gasoline etc. this was probably her way of trying to get it over and done with, so no one found the body. It is stated in some sources that Hope told the others the best way to âget rid of a bodyâ was to burn it â she was also the one who directed them to Lemon Road, where it is speculated Shanda was molested, then confirmed to have been set on fire and later found there. She did not necessarily seem to enjoy these parts based off the othersâ testimonies.
However, going back to what I said earlier about sadistic enjoyment, I do believe she felt a rush of power, and was very excited at the prospect of having full control over Shanda. She definitely enjoyed spraying the Windex over her wounds, and mocking her. These parts of the night show her attitude towards the situation were at points also one of enjoyment rather than just practicality and self-preservation. This is the case too if Hope did partake in the sexual assault. When asked on the 2011 episode of Dr Phil that covered Shandaâs case, with Sharerâs mother and sister present, what she felt during the night of the murder, Hope claimed she âfelt nothingâ. And that she had no reason for doing what she did âthat would make sense or excuse it.â These answers show apathy, but also some shame too â the case is most likely she did have an answer to those questions, but they were either too shameful to say or too hard to explain, most likely both.
Mentioning the Dr Phil episode, which is an interesting watch, it does show a degree of remorse on Hopeâs part, and helps me believe she is the most remorseful of the four. Showing her face on live television was not something that was a positive opportunity for her, rather the opposite. By that point she was living her life in privacy and trying to attract as little public attention as possible, in one instance being fired from a job she had due to the business getting hate reviews etc. for employing her. So, the motive of her wanting publicity would not make sense, as outside of that one televised interview, she has not been in the public eye. Leaving the only other explanation to be the one she gave to Dr Phil and Shandaâs relatives; that she wanted to help answer any questions and give them closure.
Jacque, Shandaâs mother, makes a really interesting point on the show, that if any of them were really remorseful they wouldâve stayed in jail. I am not going to go too into detail with my opinion on this, but I do think perhaps both things could be true at once. Hope in her mind, to her, could be remorseful, but still want to get out of prison. Rippey said on the show that she got herself out of prison because whether she was in it or not would not make a difference on the fact she was now a different person, and that she could still could do more good on the outside than in jail. I think some individuals are very complicated and Hope is one of them, even in the aftermath, she does and says things that contradict each other â one minute doing the right thing, the next saying something borderline offensive (her attitude towards Jacque and Shandaâs sister did give me a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.) Â My personal opinion is that Hope is somewhat remorseful, definitely, but whether it is in the socially acceptable and general way most tend to view it as, or in her own way I do not know.
I am of the opinion that, although no one told or forced these girls to do what they did â and that they made the conscious decision to murder an innocent girl, in a way, all of these girls were failed at some point in their lives, shaping them into the sort of person who could do that. Whether that be by their parents, or doctors, or teachers, or society in general. Shanda was failed most of all by the four girls who took her life, however there were others at fault â or who at least contributed.
This is one of the frustrating cases where this could have been very much prevented â and future prevention needs to start with the people around us; Melinda was horrifically abused by her father, yet her mother said nothing, no police were involved, and she only received counselling later on in life. Mental health professionals turned a blind eye to her symptoms of borderline personality disorder, and she never received specialised help for her trauma, only general family counselling. Laurieâs parents ignored her frankly very concerning behaviour, and once she was receiving psychiatric treatment, she was rushed out of it by her parents, who believed her issues were due to satanism rather than abhorrent parenting leading to the development of a personality disorder, as well as depression. There were no frequent check ups from mental health professionals either after she was discharged, and going back to when CPS came to their home after Laurieâs mother literally attempted to strangle her, no further CPS checkups were made either.
If Tackettâs claims of sexual abuse from a family member/s were true, this would also highlight further failure by Laurieâs parents. However, even if they had reported the sexual assault, it is possible the police would have failed her like they did Toni â completely dismissing the credible case she had made against the boy who had raped her. Social services and teachers ignored all the girlsâ destructive behaviours, at some points Toni, Laurie and Hope literally self-harming in the middle of class (which to my knowledge never was addressed by an adult).
In conclusion, these girls were not âborn evil,â as no one is. We can never know for sure what they were thinking that night, but from the evidence compiled and the information read we can be certain they were not always the type of people who would be able to murder an innocent child. They had potential, they could have led normal lives, Shanda could have lived. A persons own motivations for murder, and their journey into becoming someone capable of it are deeply complicated and personal, however objectively many glaring failures by the people around them (and society in general) can be seen, and can help explain why the girls turned out the way they did, and the way this even happened in the first place.
man the public defender discourse pisses me off so bad. yeah. yeah I do think that every single person deserves representation. yeah that includes people who *have* committed rape and murder and abuse. when I say every single person I mean every single person. if your idea of justice excludes one person it excludes everyone. next question
this shit pisses me off so bad cause half the people saying that public defenders are horrible/âbad peopleâ should not have legal counsel have not a slightest inkling of how the law works - public defenders most of the time donât have a choice in who they defend first of allđđđ itâs not their fault if someone who has done wrong gets off, itâs the states and prosecutors responsibility to give a proper counter and to compile enough evidence to keep this person off the streets
these virtue signalling assholes have no idea how society works outside of twitter, wow you think certain individuals should not have any legal rights because u think what they did was wrong ur so right!!! infact letâs just throw the whole system away and base it off of whose the nicest person!!!
18-year-old Russian vocational boarding school student who carried out the Bolsheorlovskoye shooting on 12 October 2020 in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast
Note: The last post pertaining to this case is fortunately not the final one, as I ended up revisiting it again due to dissatisfaction with how little information there is that I, at least, had gathered. I was especially curious about his social media accounts, which then led me to uncover more information that Iâll be discussing in this post. Also, new picture! (not really)
Part 1: Covers his personal background - family, education, social life, health history, and other biographical details.
Part 2: Delves into the October 12, 2020 shooting - the sequence of events, manhunt, aftermath, motive, and broader reactions.
Part 3: Discusses his firearm license details and process, as well as other miscellaneous information, including his social media profiles and more.
There have also been revisions made to other sections of the document, but they donât change the narrative. All the changes have been applied in the PDF and the previous posts. If I happen to dig up more later on, Iâll make sure to give an update.
Check these out as well: Part 1; Part 2
Here is the updated link of the PDF file. (Apologies for the fucked formatting)
Once again, happy reading.
Firearm Licensing and Acquisition
Under Russian law, civilians must undergo a stringent multi-step process to legally acquire a firearm. This includes obtaining a medical certificate, passing psychological and toxicology evaluations, completing firearms safety training, and receiving official licensing approval.
Front cover of Daniilâs official hunting license booklet
According to records from the Russian National Guard (Rosgvardiya), after fulfilling all legal prerequisites, Daniil Monakhov obtained his firearm license and legally acquired a 12-gauge Hatsan Escort pump-action smoothbore shotgun on September 17, 2020. Multiple reports claim that it was a gift from his father, likely in acknowledgment of his long-standing fascination with firearms. However, a close friend from school â whom Daniil had known since 5th grade â stated in an interview with Daily Storm that he purchased the gun himself using his disability funds. âHe dreamed of owning a gun â he bought it with his disability benefits and sent us pictures. He was as happy as a clam. I thought it would end with duck hunting.â Daniil reportedly spent years studying firearms, their mechanics, and tactics online, actively engaging in gun-related forums and communities. His acquisition of a firearm shocked some acquaintances, given his previous plot to attack his school.
The following documents trace the licensing process he completed:
Image 1. Medical certificate confirming Daniil Monakhov had no contraindications for firearm ownership
Image 2. Toxicology report showing no illegal substances found in Daniilâs system
Image 3. Medical conclusion stating no narcotics or psychotropics were detected
These documents pertain to Daniil Monakhovâs medical eligibility for firearm ownership. The earliest, dated July 20, 2020 [Image 1], is a general medical clearance stating that no health conditions were identified that would contraindicate weapon possession. On the same date, he also underwent a psychiatric evaluation [Image 3], affirming the absence of narcotic or psychotropic substances in his system, with his informed consent recorded. A few days earlier, on July 17, 2020, a chemical-toxicological analysis was conducted [Image 2], which also returned negative for all controlled substances.
Image 4. Certificate of firearm safety training, completed on August 8, 2020
Image 5. Firearm safety test results, showing all practical exercises were passed
These documents confirm Monakhovâs completion of firearms safety training. Image 4 certifies his participation in a training program on August 8, 2020. Image 5 documents a practical examination conducted on August 12, 2020, in which he passed both the theoretical and practical components related to handling short-barreled and long-barreled civilian firearms.
Image 6. Hunting license issued to Daniil Monakhov on August 7, 2020
This is Daniilâs hunting license, issued on August 7, 2020, by the Committee for the Protection, Use, and Reproduction of Wildlife of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. It legally granted him access to designated hunting grounds and may have supplemented his firearm registration process.
Though the formal requirements were met, questions would later arise about the adequacy of these evaluations, particularly in light of Daniilâs prior mental health history. These concerns are addressed in the aftermath.
In addition to Daniilâs own shotgun, his father legally owned a second smoothbore firearm. Both weapons were reportedly kept in a safe at his grandmotherâs residence in the countryside. Though his father had hidden the keys, Daniil discreetly kept track of their location.

Note: I have been rigorously digging to the best of my abilities in search of the full original image below without the edited text made on the paper he is holding, but to no avail... It all circles me back to the same source I initially retrieved, which was from an inactive user from an obsolete social media site. The 2ch links that the leak originated from are now defunct. I did entertain the idea of reaching out to that person just in case they have the original, but no thank you.
However, I did manage to find a cropped version that partially displays enough visibility on the text that allows visual inference. From what I can decipher, the bottom text is written in Cyrillic letters saying âĐĐĐĽĐâ â a plural form of a Russian slang insult that loosely translates to âskill issue,â âsuckers,â or âlosers.â The whole text reads âĐĐ ĐĐĐĽĐâ which means âBye bye losers.â

He was fond of playing video games, particularly Assassinâs Creed and S.T.A.L.K.E.R., which he seemed to enjoy from a young age. He followed several communities related to both games and also appeared to enjoy The Elder Scrolls series. His grandmother reportedly complained about these obsessions.
Based on the groups he had joined in the site, he seemed to like Spider-Man, the football club CSKA Moscow, and a few groups about Chernobyl. He also enjoyed watching episodes of The Annoying Orange in Russian dub based on his likes.

The Attack
Map of Monakhovâs approximate route during the attack, based on NN.ru reporting
On Sunday, October 11, 2020, Daniil Monakhov visited his 63-year-old grandmother, Galina Monakhova, in the small rural village of Bolsheorlovskoye, located in the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. That same day, he had gone duck hunting with his father. The two returned to the city afterward.
The following morning, on October 12, Monakhov attended a single class session at his college before requesting leave, claiming he had been summoned by the military enlistment office. As he asked calmly, he aroused no suspicion and was granted permission to leave. Rather than visiting the enlistment office, however, he returned once more to his grandmotherâs residence.
Later that afternoon, around 3:30 PM, as he was preparing to head back to the city, Galina accompanied him to the local bus stop to see him off. As the bus arrived, Monakhov asked to return home to use the bathroom. He was away for approximately 10 minutes. Galina, presumably growing impatient, asked the driver to wait and rushed back inside to hurry Monakhov. Some sources alleged that during this time, he was equipping himself with the shotguns stored in the grandmotherâs house, with the intention of transporting them back to the city to carry out an attack on his college. Upon returning inside, Galina likely discovered him with the firearm which led to an argument between the two. It is believed that she tried to stop him, suspecting he was planning something violent. This confrontation may have triggered an outburst, during which he shot the woman twice in the abdomen with a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun at close range, fatally wounding her. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries nearly a month later.
House No. 7, Galina Monakhovaâs residence
Equipped with both smoothbore shotguns, a cartridge belt, and a black bag containing 40 buckshot pellets, he left the scene and encountered Sergei Napylov (58), a neighbor and head of the local fire brigade. The man came to investigate the commotion after he disembarked from the waiting bus. Monakhov fatally shot him from behind, killing him on the spot.
As he made his way towards the bus stop, he began firing at the windows of a nearby apartment building, House No. 1, where several residents had started peeking out in alarm. He shattered the windows of a second-floor apartment belonging to an elderly woman, who was unharmed. He continued down the path, now shooting indiscriminately at the bus stop area. The PAZ bus driver, who had been waiting to transport him, realized the threat and drove away promptly. Behind the bus stop, Monakhov encountered Valentina Zhogonova (63), who was on her way to feed her chickens. She was struck by multiple pellets in the arms, legs, and back, but survived. Monakhov then turned and fired several shots towards House No. 7 before continuing down the street.

After passing one residence, he turned into the courtyard of a neighboring property. There, he saw Viktor Artyukh (66) seated near a basement entrance, sorting cranberries. Monakhov shot him in the legs; Artyukh collapsed but managed to survive. The sound of gunfire alerted two nearby neighbors, Nikolai Seleznyov (62) and Andrei Tikhomirov (56), who rushed outside. Both were fatally shot on the spot.

Following these killings, Monakhov returned to the main road and fled towards the direction of a local hospital, located at the edge of the nearby forest. Rather than venturing into the wooded area, he traced a broad clockwise path skirting the edge of the village, where he eventually took cover near its boundary.

Manhunt
A large-scale manhunt was launched shortly after the attack, involving OMON units, drones, service dogs, infrared thermal imaging, and roadblocks to prevent escape. The search continued throughout the night and lasted approximately 15 hours. Although authorities believed Monakhov was still armed and hiding nearby, his apprehension was deliberately postponed until daylight "to avoid endangering the lives of officers," according to the National Guard.
Law enforcement officers arriving to search for the shooting suspect
Local residents reported hearing a single gunshot around 2:00 AM, which was initially presumed to mark the time of Monakhovâs suicide. However, others later claimed to have heard two to three consecutive shots around 4:50 AM. These later reports were supported by physical evidence: a nearby dacha, which Monakhov had briefly taken shelter, was found with pellet-riddled holes in its second-floor windows, strongly indicating that he had discharged his weapon again shortly before his death.
At approximately 07:12 AM on October 13, Monakhovâs body was discovered by a search team near an abandoned boiler room, roughly 500-600 meters from the site of the killings. He had died from a self-inflicted shotgun wound, with a cartridge belt strapped to his body; both of his weapons and a backpack were found nearby. A local resident, Nikolai Petrovich, whose property lay near the site, observed that several corrugated slate panels beside his garden shed had been rearranged, seemingly repurposed as a makeshift mat. The detail suggested that Monakhov may have attempted to rest or compose himself before ending his life.
Monakhovâs body, found with a gunshot wound to the head the next morning
In total, Monakhov killed 4 people and injured 2 before taking his own life. Including the perpetrator, the final death toll stood at 5. He reportedly discharged his weapon 16 times during the attack, which devastated the small community of Bolsheorlovskoye.
Motive (Speculative)
Though Monakhovâs exact motive remains inconclusive, it is evident that he had long harbored a fascination with school shootings and appeared intent on replicating one at his own school. He demonstrated a clear interest in firearms and frequently engaged with violent media and video games. Based on his social media activity and how he communicated with peers at school, he could just be another Columbine or Kerch Polytechnic copycat. Additionally, some have speculated that due to his limited life expectancy because of his medical condition, this reality may have fostered a fatalistic mindset, one that led him to believe that he had ânothing to lose.â
The killing of Monakhovâs grandmother was likely neither premeditated nor motivated by revenge. Despite the apparent brutality of the act, a friend testified that Monakhov held no animosity towards her and would even voluntarily visit her. As the friend put it, she simply just âgot in the way.â It is possible that, upon discovering his intent with the firearms, Galina attempted to intervene. This confrontation may have triggered a moment of panic or rage, abruptly escalating the situation. With her death, Monakhov may have realized there was no going back. Returning to the city was no longer an option, and his original plan had been disrupted. Rather than flee, he chose to carry out the attack then and there â an attack he had long dreamt and fantasized about. "What's the point of him living out the rest of his days in Russia? He had major health problems â both physical and mental. And in reality, he didnât have much time left â maybe five years. So what?" said a friend.
Aftermath and Reaction
Despite strict firearm regulations in Russia which include comprehensive background checks and mandatory medical evaluations, Monakhov was able to obtain a license without issue. This failure in the system drew public scrutiny, particularly as he had reportedly undergone treatment for depression and seen a psychotherapist. These factors did not disqualify him during the licensing process. He received medical clearance from a private clinic, and some sources have suggested the certificate may have been purchased fraudulently, though this remains unverified.
Following the attack, a postmortem psychological-psychiatric examination concluded that Monakhov was legally sane but diagnosed him with emotionally unstable personality disorder of the borderline type.
In response to the incident, psychiatrist Vitaly Baluyev â who had evaluated Monakhov during the licensing process in July 2020 â faced criminal charges for alleged negligence. Investigators argued that Baluyev had failed to identify signs of Monakhovâs personality disorder. However, the court determined that there was no direct causal link between the assessment and the attack. It also ruled that Baluyev, as a doctor at a private clinic without formal administrative authority, could not be held criminally liable. The case was returned to the prosecutor for further review, and restrictions placed on Baluyev were lifted. The clinic, Expert, later had its license revoked due to poor internal quality control and safety standards.
Monakhovâs body was later buried at the cemetery in Sormovo, a district of Nizhny Novgorod. His victims were laid to rest in the village cemetery in Bolsheorlovskoye, while the non-local was buried in a different city. Following the events, Monakhovâs relatives sold the familyâs apartment.
Improvised memorials were erected throughout Bolsheorlovskoye in the aftermath, including a small chapel located near the site of the attack. As a governmental response to the tragedy, regional governor Gleb Nikitin allocated financial assistance to victimsâ families â 200,000 rubles to the bereaved and 100,000 to the injured.

Background
Daniil Mikhailovich Monakhov (Russian: ĐанииН ĐĐ¸Ń Đ°ĐšĐťĐžĐ˛Đ¸Ń ĐĐžĐ˝Đ°Ń ĐžĐ˛) was born on June 6, 2002, in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. At the time of the attack, he was 18 years old. He lived with both parents and a younger sister, seven years his junior. He was described as coming from a well-off family, carrying a modern phone, and wearing decent clothing.Â
Family and Upbringing
Despite the outward comforts of family life, Daniil reportedly showed little emotional attachment to his parents. His relationship with his father was said to be distant and, at times, tense. A former classmate recalled that Daniil once mentioned having experienced physical abuse. His father also had a history of drinking, and their interactions were otherwise unremarkable, aside from the shared bond over firearms and hunting, which appeared to be one of the few activities that brought them together. According to one account, as a form of emotional release, Daniilâs father reportedly suggested hunting together after observing his sonâs fondness for shooter games.Â
According to a friend, Daniil had taken an interest in hunting even before the 2020 pandemic. He first began accompanying his father on occasional trips, visited a shooting range several times in the summer, and later resumed hunting more regularly in the fall. A resident of Bolsheorlovskoye, the village where his paternal grandmother lived, recalled that the family had official forestry permission to hunt in the area. âThe boy only recently got into hunting,â said a local man. âBut the father has been hunting for at least ten years â birds, hares. Heâd come out after work on Fridays and leave again on Sundays.â
Over time, weekend hunting trips with his father became a semi-regular routine, often coinciding with visits to his grandmotherâs village. Despite these recurring visits, Daniil never made any friends in the area and remained largely unknown among the locals. His bond with his mother, though seemingly more conventional, was also described to be emotionally flat and was not particularly close. His family dynamics were further complicated by his own mental and physical health struggles, which his friends noted but felt unsure about how much they influenced his relationships at home. He rarely seemed concerned with anything beyond his immediate interests; his world largely revolved around school and the small group of friends he had there.
Medical History
Daniil had been living with significant health issues since childhood. He was diagnosed early in life with a congenital heart defect, a condition severe enough to require medical attention beyond his hometown, which also ultimately disqualified him from military service. He underwent treatment in Moscow and was subject to periodic monitoring throughout his adolescence. In the months preceding the tragedy, his condition deteriorated. It was reported that a thrombus (blood clot) had formed near his heart, placing him at elevated risk. He was expected to undergo cardiac surgery, but this procedure had never taken place. Due to the severity of his condition, it was believed he had only a few years left to live â approximately 5, according to a recollection of his friend. In addition to his heart condition, Daniil reportedly suffered from bronchial asthma as well. âLately, even just laughing would cause him to become short of breath,â a friend shared.
As his condition declined, the frequency of his visits to Moscow became more recurrent and structured. It required him to travel to the capital roughly once a month, with each stay lasting up to 2 weeks. These repeated hospitalizations became a weary routine for him. An acquaintance recounted that it was overwhelmingly boring for him, once claiming to have gone âberserkâ at younger patients who disturbed the ward. To pass the time, he scrolled social media feeds for hours or replayed the video game Injustice multiple times in its entirety, activities he had engaged out of sheer boredom rather than genuine interest. In addition to his cardiac issues, Daniil exhibited signs of neurological or psychosomatic disturbances. He suffered from nervous tics, which could be triggered either spontaneously or through sensory stimuli. One particularly notable trigger involved his ears â any physical contact would cause them to redden and provoke a tic episode. His friends were aware of this sensitivity and avoided touching them. These tics were not attributed to stress or anxiety alone, but appeared to have an involuntary, almost reflexive nature.
School Life and Social Behavior
Daniil attended School No. 101 from 1st through 11th grade, where he later graduated in June of 2020. Former classmates described him as reserved and socially withdrawn, often keeping to himself. Consequently, some peers mocked his aloofness, but there were no reports of overt bullying or abuse. Though generally reserved and distant, he was not entirely isolated: during his earlier school years, he maintained a small circle of male friends, jokingly calling themselves a âgang,â and even had their own logo and matching printed T-shirts. Daniil was said to have dreaded the end of 11th grade, fearing the group would disperse to different universities.
School No. 101 in Nizhny Novgorod
Those close to him described him as smart, educated, and particularly noted his sharp, albeit morbid sense of humor. He would make dark and humorous remarks about politics, military affairs, and death. âItâs hard to consider Daniil a healthy person,â said a friend, referring to his mental state.
Outside this circle, he rarely socialized and remained particularly distant from female classmates, only ever speaking to them to borrow pencils
Warning Signs, Violent Media Fascination
Daniil, likely in 10th grade based on the books
Several classmates recalled alarming signs in his behavior and conversations. He was reportedly open about his fascination with school shootings, often referencing Columbine and the Kerch Polytechnic massacre. He also spoke openly about his desire to purchase firearms and explosives, and was impatient to turn 18 to legally acquire them. One classmate said that he repeatedly expressed intentions to âstage a Columbineâ of his own, though at the time, peers dismissed it as another example of his dark humor. No one believed he was capable of such violence because he was âweak and skinny.â Others noted that he repeatedly watched videos related to the massacre as early as 9th grade and began experimenting with homemade explosive devices by the 11th grade.
In February 2019, Daniil drew the attention of school authorities after disturbing content was discovered on his VKontakte (a Russian social media platform). He had praised school shootings and expressed admiration for the Columbine massacre. At one point, he set his profile picture to one of the Columbine perpetrators and changed his status to âJudgment day.â He even changed his listed birthdate to April 20, 1999 â the date of the Columbine attack. Daniil reportedly spoke of staging a massacre in the school cafeteria during peak hours. The plan allegedly involved a second student, and both intended to end their lives after carrying it out.
Following the discovery of this content, the school's deputy principal and Daniilâs homeroom teacher reported the matter to local authorities. Letters were sent to the Education Department of the Leninsky District and the Juvenile Commission of the Kanavinsky District. Daniil was placed on the schoolâs internal watchlist, where he remained until graduation. The administration held conversations with him, and a school social worker initiated preventative interventions. His parents were informed.
Despite these actions, many felt the school prioritized damage control over prevention. Teachers and administrators advised students and parents not to spread the information. According to classmate Amina Isaeva, the first warnings came not from the school or police, but from a parent with ties to law enforcement. Students were discouraged from âcausing panicâ and warned that âthe school could get into trouble.â Only about two dozen students and their parents became aware of the threat. On April 20, 2019, Isaeva and five others skipped school without providing their reasons, fearing a possible tragedy â though no incident occurred. The Investigative Committee later confirmed that both the regional Center for Countering Extremism and the FSB were informed of Daniilâs behavior. Security forces were dispatched to the school and conducted a search with detection dogs. Daniil was subjected to a so-called "preventative conversation," during which he dismissed his remarks as jokes. No criminal charges or further disciplinary actions followed, and Daniil was allowed to continue his education.
College Years, Weapon Acquisition
In September 2020, he enrolled at the Nizhny Novgorod Professional Boarding College of Social Services, a vocational institution for students with disabilities. He studied digital information processing. Teachers described him as polite, quiet, and academically compliant, though he maintained average grades and remained socially isolated, forming no close friendships at the school.

infamous custom âWRATHâ shirt in the image to the right
Among his hobbies, he also enjoyed extreme industrial tourism.
The hypocoristic form of his name is âĐŃĐ˝Ńикâ (Denchik).
A close friend nicknamed him âRex,â like a dog, which he accepted without offense and became an inside joke.Â
He had an extremely low alcohol tolerance.
"I remember he even had a birthday, we celebrated it, and that was the first time he drank alcohol. It was tequila â he got drunk right away," a friend told Tsargrad.
A friend said that Daniil had once mentioned that if he were to die, it would be a shot to the head.
He had a deep affection for dogs, especially his âfussyâ Chihuahua and a miniature pinscher gifted by his parents, a dog he had long wanted. Neighbors often saw him walking them and described him as unusually gentle with animals.
He was absent from all photo albums at his college, including those taken during Freshman Day, Teacherâs Day, Health Day, and the October campus cleanup.

When explaining why he was Pro-Nazi, Weise stated the following: Â "The Natives you've known to be sympathetic to the cause are probably ones who've experienced firsthand what kind of problems cultural and race mixing can cause. As a result of cultural dominance and interracial mixing there are barely any full blooded Natives left. Where I live less than 1% of all the people on the Reservation can speak their own language, and among the youth wanting to be black has run rampant. Under a National Socialist government, things for us would improve vastly... That is, if we haven't already become too soft from the way this materialistic life-style has made us, and that is why I am pro-Nazi. It's hard though, being a Native American National Socialist; people are so misinformed, ignorant, and closed-minded it makes your life a living hell."

âOur deepest most heartfelt sympathies go out to the families, loved-ones, and friends affected by this most recent tragedy that seems beyond comprehension. Their loss is terrible. The questions are too numerous to count. As we watch and read the news, all too often this person is referred to as "the gunman" or similar such sanitizing terminology. On the ATS Forums, he discussed various topics, with one recurring theme being his dreams and paranormal experiences he witnessed on the Red Lake Reservation.
He revealed here his suicide attempts, aswell as how he was already being pegged as a school shooter almost a year before he did it. (He discussed an incident where he was blamed for a threat that claimed the high school would be attacked on 4/20/2004, hitlerâs birthday and the fifth anniversary of Columbine. He stated he was accused due to his style and because he was the only student openly expressing National Socialist ideals).
He also revealed, for the first time, his ownership of a .22 Caliber Pistol, very likely the same Ruger MK II Heâd use to kill his grandparents a few months later right before the school shootings.

Russia has seen a rise in attacks on schools in recent years but incidents at religious premises are rare. In October 2018, 18 year-old Vladislav Roslyakov killed 20 people and injured 70 at Kerch polytechnical college in Crimea. In September 2021, 18 year-old law student Timur Bekmansurov killed 6 people and injured 147 others in Perm State University. In May of 2021, a 19-year-old Ilnaz Galyaviev killed 9 people and injured 23 at Kazan school, Tatarstan.
Vladislav Struzhenkov was an 18-year-old graduate and former student of the Orthodox Gymnasium. Vlad was sentenced to 13 years in prison after detonating an IED bomb in the educational facility beside a monastery in Serpukhov, outside Moscow, Russia in December, 2021.
At 08:24 a.m, Vlad entered the premises and attempted to detonate an explosive device. The bomb went off at 08:26 a.m. local time, near the entrance of a school located on the grounds of the 14th-century Vladychny Convent. Several teenagers were injured in the blast. Vlad, who had attempted to blow himself up, wounded ten others, including himself. He was taken to the intensive care unit with traumatic injuries and had to have his leg amputated. While conscious, he informed investigators that he had been planning the attack for three months. It is suspected that he may have had an accomplice who assisted in preparing the explosive device.
ABUSE AND BULLYING
According to the teenager, the religious Orthodox school was considered to be abusive. State news agency TASS, citing a police source, reported that the teenager intended for the device to detonate during morning prayers, but it exploded at the school entrance instead. Authorities are working to determine the motives behind the attack.
However, according to the Interfax news agency, the teenager may have sought revenge for being bullied by nuns at the convent. Vladimir Legoida, a spokesman for the Russian Orthodox Church, stated that the church will provide assistance to "all those affected". "Such attacks, wherever they occur, cause the same grief and a strong desire to prevent them in the future," he said in a statement on Telegram.
Since President Vladimir Putin's election, the Russian church has increased its influence over traditionally secular institutions like schools. Introducing more religious lessons and clerics advocating for conservative textbooks.
VERDICT
Commenting on the verdict, a source in the Russian Church told RIA-Novosti:Â
"The act committed by Struzhenkov, of course, meets the criteria of a terrorist act, so the punishment is fitting. At the same time, of course, weâd like him to have the opportunity to repent of this crime, and we hope that the prison priests, as far as possible, will be able to help him in this. Heâs a young man, and despite the severity of the crime he committed, we believe his life isnât over, and his fate is better than that of those who committed suicide during such attacks or were eliminated by law enforcement agencies."
Vlad was sentenced 13 years in prison. It is also to note that Vlad's parents also said that recently their son was seen by a psychologist and drank antidepressants before the incident.

Blagoveshchensk College Shooting 2019, Daniil Zasorin.
Daniil Zasorin was a 19 year-old 4th year student at the Amur College of Construction and Housing and Communal Services at Blagoveshchensk, Russia. On the morning of November 14th, Daniil went to his homeroom class with his pump-action shotgun Izh-81 12-gauge with him. Subsequently killing one student and seriously wounding three others. Zasorin breifly exchanged fire with the police, then committed suicide.Â

TRAIN OF EVENTSÂ
With the security lacking metal detectors to properly detect the weapon, Daniil had snuck in his firearm and promptly hid it in the bathroom before attending a class. He bought the gun a few months prior with his own money after receiving the license. The suspicion was under the radar with his family since he had claimed to have an interest in hunting, however only went out to use the gun once to test his shooting skills with cans. The gun was also protected and kept in a safe.
On the morning of the shooting, Daniil promptly went to class after hiding the weapon under his outerwear and adjusting the gun in the toilet, leaving the weapon inside a suitcase. While in class, he was then asked to leave by the teacher for the reason of disruptive behavior. After, he then went back to the bathroom to retrieve his weapon out of his briefcase and started loading it. At that moment, five people came into the scene. According to Maxim Muratov, a student interviewed by Mash, Daniil was startled, not expecting that five people would enter, so he pointed the gun at them and threatened to shoot. According to the Rastriga telegram channel, once caught with the weapon, under the threat of murder, he ordered and forced one of them student to jump off the window, causing several fractures and two broken arms.
Daniil then came back inside the classroom and took his young teacher, who was standing by the door, by her hand and led her out the classroom before starting the shooting. Daniil then approached one of his classmates. In a recorded audio message that was recorded before the start of the shooting, published on a social media channel associated with the Russian law enforcement,
Daniil asked, "Do you want to live?"
Panic then broke out once he started shooting. People ran in different directions and hid inside closets and other barricades. According to his classmates, Daniil had also asked them the same question, letting them go once they pleaded. According to one witness:
âDaniil was walking down the hallway with a shotgun and noticed us â his friendâs legs were sticking out of the closet. He approached him and asked him: âDo you want to live?â He answered: âYes, what are you doing?â And he started begging them to let him go â and Daniil let him go.â
âThen he asked the same question to me. He stood in front of me and smoked, music was playing on his phone. He was calm, and I also tried to speak calmly to him. He threw away the cigarette. âDo you want to live?â he asked. âYes.â âThen come into the office.â I went into the office, saw the guys lying on the floor - Lesha and Vlad, I couldnât help them at that moment. There were two exits in the office, and I ran out through the other.â
Classmates state that he was specifically targeting specific people who allegedly offended him. One being the student he previously had a dispute with. One of them first said something to him, and he replied: "Are you immortal?" And then fired shots soon after.Â
After the police were called by some students and the teacher herself, the police shortly arrived, began to surround the college, and went inside. They ordered him to get out, and he began to fire several shots to defend himself before being wounded by one of the shots from the law enforcement officers. Daniill, injured, then returned to the classroom and shot himself in the head.
WITNESS CLAIMS ON THE TEENâS BEHAVIOR
Educational Ministry, published by Mash:
âDuring his years of study, he proved himself to be a calm, balanced student. He was never seen in any conflict situations. He was friendly and tactful in his relationships with others,â
Student, in an interview:
âDaniil was not open to communication, he trusted only close people. He showed a special interest in computer science and English. He was fond of computer games. He did not miss classes without a good reason. He was physically developed and healthy. He had no inclination to commit crimes or be brought to the police.â
Student, in an interview:
âDaniil and I studied in the same group for almost four years, but I know nothing about him - what he was interested in, what kind of person he was. I can hardly even remember his last name. He was always quiet, calm, never showed aggression and did not quarrel with anyone - at least not loudly. He had only one friend in the group, also such an inconspicuous guy.âÂ
Student, in an interview:
Daniil was considered to be âstrange, quiet and on his ownâ. He always sat quietly at the first desk and did not bother to look back to talk to others, no one bothered to talk to him as well.
MOTIVE AND CONFLICTING STATEMENTS
While there are speculations, Daniil's true motive is still unclear. Many students speculate the bullying.Â
In an article, students were aware that the shooter Daniil was bullied â humiliated, cursed, shoved, and pushed. They also said that a couple of days before the incident, someone beat him up, and he couldn't stand up for himself because of his weak frame. Only the teachers stood up for him and asked them to not touch him, at least in class, because incidents have occured within the classroom as well. In describing some of the victims, a student claimed:
Student, in an interview:
âI know that he could have had conflicts with one of them - he was rude, aggressive, could shout at others during classes, quarrel with the guys, bother someone. Another one was like a class monitor, could scold people, but always for a reason. But I did not see any of them mocking Daniil. Maybe because they did not pay attention to him at all - well, he studied with me and studied. It only seemed to me that at the time of the shooting Daniil looked completely adequate. As if he was doing it intentionally, with a specific goal. He could have shot at all of us while we were running from the classroom, but he did not do it.â
Student, in an interview:
âI was friends with Lesha (Alexey) the guy he killed, and Iâm sure that the dead man was not one of those who offended Daniil. Maybe he accidentally touched him once, but he definitely didnât poison him, much less hit him. Lesha was a good guy, serious, he was finishing his studies next year, working part-time as a security guard, living with a girl, and was going to marry her. Everything was fine with him, and he simply did not need to mock anyone. I don't know why he suffered.â
However, according to news site Meduza, the Educational Ministry claimed the shooter had no previous record of violence or antisocial behavior. Classmates have described him as a âquiet, easy-going guy,â and deny that he was the target of bullying. While other reports have pushed contradictory theories:Â
He opened fire after being told off for smoking in college
He was avenging a girl he knew who had been raped.
The second one was then debunked by one of the students in an interview, where according to them:
Student, in an interview:
âThere is a version in the media that Daniil was taking revenge on the guys for the girl he allegedly raped in the dorm, but that is not true. No one was raped in the dorm, and he didn't have a girlfriend. I am sitting here now and thinking that everything that happened is just some kind of nonsense.â
AUDIO RECORDING
The website Baza on the other hand, published a transcript of an audio message Daniil had recorded the night before the attack. The authenticity of the message has not been confirmed, and Baza is known for publishing inside information quickly but without standard accuracy checks.
âNone of the people theyâre going to blame on TV when this happens could have stopped it.â
âOf course, it hurts â why does it have to be me, why here, why now?â
In the recording and transcript published on Baza, the speaker says an unspecified group of âpeopleâ should have been responsible for stopping past school shootings. He also alludes to the inclusion of the Columbine 1999 High School shooting, as well as present shootings like his own. However, he also frames his actions to be inevitable.

Tim Kretschmer was born on July 27, 1991, in Leutenbach, Germany. He lived with his parents and sister. While alive, Tim loved playing tennis and took lessons with a coach and a team. This coach characterized Tim as a normal boy, who got on well with his teammates, although he was arrogant from time to time, as well as putting them down. The coach also said that Tim had a lot of difficulty dealing with defeats, expressing anguish, suffering and anger, where most of the time he had relatively aggressive behaviors of throwing his racket on the ground. In addition to tennis, Tim Kretschmer was also very fond of video games, especially Counter-Strike. He was also very fond of guns, and had pressure guns in his bedroom. This love of guns came from Tim's father, who also loved guns and shooting. Tim's father is said to have owned 15 guns. Mr. Kretschmer took his son to shooting clubs, and it was there that the boy learned to shoot. The boy also liked to research attacks and attacks involving mass killings, and did a lot of research into 9/11 and the Erfurt massacre, which took place in 2002. Tim was generally described as a quiet, distant and isolated boy. He graduated in 2008 at the age of 17.
March 11, 2009, was the day Tim decided he was going to commit a tragedy. The murder weapon was a Beretta caliber 9mm semi-automatic pistol from his father's collection. Tim went to his school, where he had graduated at the end of the previous year, and started shooting from the second floor. He killed around five people right away, and most of them died from shots to the head, revealing the boy's skill in handling the pistol. He continued to enter other rooms on the floor and shoot more people. He had no specific targets and, due to his behavior during the attack, was classified as a âspree shootingâ. This all took about 2-3 minutes, and the police arrived at the scene very early on.
(the gun used by Tim K)
Tim exchanged gunfire with some police officers and began to run out of the school. While on the run, Kretschmer killed a janitor of a psychiatric institution near the school. The police surrounded the building, unaware of the escape, and searched for Tim in Winnenden for two hours, without success. Then, some 10 minutes later, Kretschmer hijacked a vehicle in a parking lot. From the back seat, holding his pistol as a threat, Tim ordered the man driving the Volkswagen minivan to drive to the town of Wendling, about 40km from Winnenden.
The driver of the hijacked minivan threw it onto a road against a stationary police car and threw himself out of the minivan. Tim, meanwhile, got out of the vehicle and started running. He entered a Volkswagen dealership, where he killed a salesman and a customer. This time, without a fatal bullet, they were found with 13 bullets in their bodies. From then on, Tim Kretschmer started shooting randomly at people in the street, passing vehicles and buildings. The police arrived at the scene and fired 8 shots at Tim, who had both legs wounded. He fired 12 shots at the police, then reloaded his gun and shot himself in the head.
Much has been speculated about the massacre, because the boy was quiet, reserved and few people had anything to say about him. Theories have been raised that he was a misogynist or that he targeted women, because most of the victims he killed while still at school were girls. The massacre was very unexpected, and a curious fact is that some students were found dead with bullets in their heads, while still holding pens in their hands. The case of Tim Kretschmer served to fuel the discourse of a possible âincel dangerâ, and various rumors emerged.
During the forensics and crime scene investigation, the police received several phone calls claiming to have accessed posts that Tim allegedly made before the massacre, in which he said things like: âI'm sick of this lifeâ, âeveryone laughs at meâ and âno one recognizes my potentialâ, claiming that this was said in a chat room. In addition to these, they said that there was an explicit message warning them of what was going to happen:
- âI have guns and I'm going to my ex-school in the morning and have a proper âbarbecueââ, he said.
- In these reports to the police, they said he threatened that people should âwatch outâ for what would happen the next day. "You'll hear about me tomorrow. Remember the name of the place: Winnenden."
- Tim's messages were recorded by an internet user from Bavaria who, at the time, didn't take them seriously. After the massacre, he retrieved the text and informed the police about the case, according to the minister.
(the alleged posts)
However, they didn't prove the veracity of these messages and the supposed website that was the platform for the posts stated âNo massacre was announced hereâ and then went offline.

Fun facts:
Witnesses described how one of the women shielded a pupil while staring defiantly into the killer's eyes.
âHe shot her with icy efficiency,â said a police spokesman.
Kretschmer entered the school at around 9.30am, dressed in a black combat uniform and wearing a gas mask.
Adam Lanza liked Tim Kretschmer and used Tim's name and photo on one of his Tumblr profiles
