COLT!" Colt turns around to see his older brother standing in the doorway of his motel room, something bad must have happened for his oldest brother to break no contact, especially as it would put his daughter Claire at risk "What's happened?? Is Claire okay??" The younger brother stammers out

"Claire's fine, have you heard from Ryland recently??" Gentry asks in an exasperated tone looking pissed

"No, he stopped talking to me after being kicked out the science club, remember?" Colt snaps sitting down on the worn-out mattress making the well used bed creak under him

"It's just I haven't been able to find him anywhere, even with the connections I have I just can't seem to find him, it's like he disappeared off the face of the planet" Gentry explains sitting down beside his brother the TV illuminating his solemn face. They both sit in silence for a while contemplating on what to say to one another when something catches their attention on the TV.

"THATS RYLAND" they both yell, he's on screen in the background of an official press conference "why the hell does the news say he's going to space, he's scared of rollercoasters and elevators for fucks sake?!" Colt ends sheepishly as someone pounds on the thin walls telling him to shut up.

"Why the fuck would I know? All I know is that we need to try to contact him" already grabbing his phone out to find any sort of way.

"Who's Eva Stratt?" Gentry says to himself pulling up a phone number to call putting the phone onto speaker

"Hello, who is this?" A woman's voice says as the phone picks up "This is the brothers of Dr Ryland Grace, who the hell are you and why is our brother on the news?" The younger brother coldly asks

"Dr Grace doesn't have any family, please don't contact this number again."

They both look at eachother, not surprised just shocked, Grace had chosen to go by his mother's name as their father was severely abusive, Gentry had to kill their father to stop him from killing Grace this event left Grace unconscious and unable to remember Gentry. Colt got into stunts due to the adrenaline he felt that night watching his older brother finally break.

"We gotta go find him Gent, please tell me you still have some way to get to him, We lost him once before, we cannot lose him again" Colt says as they both get up, Colt grabbing his car keys from the table by the door

(Time skip to the launch)

"Please let us see him, he's our brother for fucks sake" Gentry begs to one of the guards of the launch site "Dr Grace doesn't have any brothers" the guard says

Colt takes off running as he spots Grace sprinting out of one of the buildings nearby grabbing the attention of Gentry sprinting after "Colt, Colt don't let them take me, please I-i don't want to go!" Grace screams trying to reach the fence hands outstretched

"We won't, we'll get you out of this, we promise" Colt assures him pressing his body up to the fence as Gentry throws his jacket over the wire at the top climbing over, the next moment guns get pulled going off straight into the Older brother as he collapses dead, Grace is tackled to the ground face pinned into the dirt tears running down his cheeks from fear and grief he couldn't place "No no no, Colt, please, please, please don't let them, Colt" Grace screams as two guards point their guns at Colt, a doctor sedates him

Two guards then rush either side of Colt pinning him to the ground looking at his older brother blood staining the floor, he manages to break one of his hands out and tries fruitlessly to reach either one of his brothers, several men come and lift Grace onto the back of a pick-up truck and drives him away.

(Time skip to just after the launch)

Colt stares up at the ceiling of the room he is held in tears no longer forming feeling like he has failed both his brothers, one dead and one on a forced suicide mission

"hey Angie!" I squeal running into her office seeing my sister for the first time in a long while

"Oh my god HONEY!"she squeals back at me running over to give me a hug

"What are you doing back?" Her voice laced with confusion

"I asked for a transfer to here, it was getting a bit heavy working for the counter terrorism team, I need something a little more human" saying as I sit down on one of the sofas in her office Angie sits down Infront of me placing her hand on my knee for comfort

"It's not all sunshine and rainbows here but it's nice giving families closure, Brennan has taken to this like a duck to water" honesty everywhere in her voice

"Of course she would, other people may think she's a robot but she's got some depth to her" I laugh out

"Hello y/n, it's lovely to see you again" turning my head I see temperance standing at the door of Angie's office

"Hey Temperance, how are you?" Asking her as she comes and sits on the opposite sofa

"I'm very well thank you and thank you for saying that about me it was nice"

"Only telling the truth" I reply to her

"I need to get back to the case, Angela can you introduce her to the team please" Temperance says getting up and heading out of the door

We do the same chatting about a plethora of things walking over to a glass door that looks like it has seen better days from the various burn marks, scuffs and a few scratches here and there

"What's up with the door, everything else in the lab seems to be pristine?" Asking pointing around to everything else looking gleaming

"This is Hodgins lab, the amount of experiments he and the various interns do in here, it would cost way too much to replace the door every time it got damaged" a hint of a blush appears as soon as she mentions this Hodgins person

"Who's this Hodgins person because you're blushing like you did when Holly asked you out on a date when we were younger?" I query knowing that it was obviously someone she has a thing for

"He's a guy who I have feelings for but I'm keeping it cool" she says moving her hands infront of her to signal the cool

"Well I can't wait to meet him" I say as we walk into the office

Weird tanks and tubes litter the walls and the tables of the lab bugs filling them, a mannequin laying in the middle of the floor with stab marks on different parts of the body

"Hey Angie, who's this?" A man with curly hair asks as he appears from behind on of the tanks

"This is my sister y/n, y/n this is Hodgins" she says pointing at the both of us , I walk over and shake his free hand as the other is holding a rather large beetle

" Nice to meet you, Angie mentioned you do experiments in here, is this one of them?" Pointing towards the mannequin on the floor

"Yes it is, I'm trying to work out which stab mark on the actual body these little beauties crawled into" he replies holding up a jar of blow flies with pride

" Hodgins don't creep her out, we've got to go meet the rest of the gang but I'll see you in a second" she says pulling me out of the room I wave goodbye at Hodgins.

"He was really nice I can see why you have the hots for him, he's hot himself, don't worry he's not my type" I add seeing her look at me sceptically

Walking up to some stairs that lead up to where mortuary tables lined we see two men with their backs towards us , Brennan and another woman facing us

Hearing a beep I notice Angie swiping her card "it's to make sure that no one comes up here unauthorized and breaks or tampers with evidence" she mentions seeing my confusion.

"Hey guys this is y/n" she says walking up to them the two men turn and I'm dumbfounded

"Oh my god lance!" I screech running towards him giving him the tightest hug.

"Y/N what are you doing here?" He breathes out wrapping his arms around my waist tightly

Breaking from the hug and finally looking into those beautiful brown eyes smiling " I asked for a transfer to here, it was getting a little too much, what are you doing here?"

Before he could reply the other woman standing next to Temperance asks us " how do you two know eachother?"

"We went to the same college and was in the same psychology 101 class, it's been so long!" I reply looking at lance

Replying to my previous question lance says that he's there because booth asked him to consult on a few cases and he clicked with everyone

"I'm so sorry I've just realised I'm incredibly rude, it's nice to meet you two" I turn away from lance and give the tall broad shouldered man a hand shake

"I'm booth nice to meet you and this is Dr saroyan" shaking my hands and pointing to the woman

" I'm guessing you're the boss " I say to her walking around to shake her hands but notice she has a pair of gloves on so I just nod at her

" I am yes, please call me Cam" she replies

"Y/N can I steal you for a moment to catch up" Lance says looking at me his cheeks slightly flushed

"Of course, it was lovely to meet you guys and I look forward to working with all of you" I say walking over to lance and we both head up towards some sofas that over look the lab

Sitting down next to eachother I'm reminded of how much I had a thing for him in college

"It's been so long, you're still really beautiful" he says looking deep into my eyes not a hint of teasing in his voice

" I'm sorry for not talking, I got so swept up in my job I barely spoke to Angie" apologising whilst sliding closer to him

"I didn't know you and Angela were related and it's fine I promise, I didn't reach out at all and I don't have an excuse" his hand going to my arm finger tips lightly grazing my skin like he used to do when we were studying

"I changed my name when I was in college because I wanted to be just myself, I changed it back in my job" he nods at me smiling that ever distracting smile

"I've missed you, not a day didn't go by where I wasn't thinking of you" his hand sliding up to my shoulder

"I've missed you too, you're still amazing looking" laughing at his face getting more flushed

" You think?"

"Oh I know" I reply getting closer to him untill our legs are practically a knot with eachother his hand the slides up to cup my cheek

"I've missed being this close to you, I hope this is okay to say but I want to kiss you" he says his hand slightly pulling my face towards his

"Do it then , kiss me" leaning into his touch our lips finally touching, my stomach does flips and my body feels like a million volts are running through every cell I have forgetting where we are we kiss a little deeper

We hear someone cough which splits the kiss and I Angie standing there hands over her mouth

" Goddamn that was steamy" she says in utter shock lance and I both start laughing looking at eachother

Am I overly happy with this, no, because I feel like I could have done this better, but I still wanted to post it for you guys. Credit to cafekitsune for the banner and the divider!

Broke Jaw was a small town in the middle of nowhere. Full of old traditions, a strong heart of community. In a place where everyone knew everyone, there was never a quiet moment.

Christmas arguably held the most traditions. There were Christmas parties and markets, but nothing was bigger than the Broke Jaw Christmas Street Event.

Every year, businesses compete to create the best Christmas display. They were becoming bigger and more extravagant. Everyone aimed to outdo their competition. It created the most magical displays, almost as if you had wandered into Winter Wonderland or a magical Christmas paradise in which you're wildest dreams come true.

You owned the bookstore in the middle of the street. It was warm and homely, welcoming avid readers back and enticing new readers to begin their journey into discovering the power of reading. Your bookstore was your pride and joy.

You put months of planning into your Christmas display. Always attempting to outdo yourself from the previous. This year would be no other. You truly believed this would be the year That you would win the converted snow globe trophy.

"Hey Darlin', you look busy here." Mayor Jeremiah Otto, popped his head through the door, two fresh cups of hot chocolate in hand. He wandered in passing you a cup, eyes flickering around the room. A look you'd seen too many times before.

"What's Troy doin' now?" Jeremiah moved to sleep into the old brown leather armchair that sat in the left corner, with a large sigh, he rested his back.

"Is it really that obvious? Shit, I used to be better at hiding my emotions as far as he's concerned" Jeremiah took a sip of his hot chocolate. "It's nothing new, hell I shouldn't even be surprised. Getting into fights starts trouble with anyone he walks past. I could shove him in an empty room and he'd cause chaos."

"I'm sorry to hear that, if there's anything that I can do all you have to do is ask."

"That's funny you should say that Sweetheart. Jake reckons if Troy were to have some direction, something to focus perhaps he wouldn't go around starting trouble." You leaned against the closest table, looking at Jeremiah suspiciously.

"And where would I come in?"

"Sweetheart you're good, you've never been in any kind of trouble a day in your life. Make mistakes sure, but that's all about growing. If he could just help you out this year. Keep him occupied. He can help ya with your display. All I'm asking from you is to keep him busy, to put him to work."

"How are you going to get him to agree to this? He's an adult, Jeremiah." Jeremiah raised from the chair rubbing a hand over his head. "You leave that to me."

Two days later, you were working on your front display, kneeling on the ledge, Christmas music playing in the background. Quietly you wove the fairy lights around the highest point of the window. You leaned up high onto your tippy toes to reach the highest point.

"You need any help there?" You nearly lost your balance at the sound of Troy's voice. He'd always had a knack for the worst timing imaginable. Regardless, Jeremiah had asked you to keep him out of trouble and that's what you intended to do. You nodded as you moved out of his way.

Troy fixed the lights around the highest point of the window, before stepping down with a smug look on his face as if he'd accomplished something you couldn't.

Troy was someone you'd never been to understand. He was reckless and a law onto himself, he could cause fights out of thin air and often experienced the thrill of a physical altercation. You'd seen him bloody and beaten up too many times. As a result people often underestimated him. They didn't see how intelligent Troy was, how he could build something out of nothing. Never cared to admit or recognize when Troy did well. When he'd been able to go a stretch without finding himself in trouble.

The two of you stood in silence for a long pause not being too familiar with each other. Aware of each other, yet never have an opportunity or an excuse to talk. "My Dad said you needed my help. I know he's shoving me off into the corner trying to get me out of trouble." Troy glanced down only for a brief moment, before looking back at you. The mischief held behind his gaze almost as if Troy was battling it to hide beneath the surface.

"Well, I could always use the extra pair of hands if you don't mind helping me." Troy gave a rare smile, Normally, the others would palm him off, and send him to work without more than some instructions, but you appeared to want his company. You'd also given him a choice to turn around and walk away.

"Sure I'll help you."

The two of you began to work together, both teetering around the edges at first, not knowing how to react, learning about each other. Troy brought new ideas and creative ways to bring your ideas to life. Troy was more than what they said he was. Troy could be helpful and kind when he was given the right kind of encouragement.

One day you were returning to your bookstore after picking up some lunch from the diner. Between dealing with customers and helping Troy with the arrangement, you'd been rushed off your feet all morning. You had never expected to find Troy with a bloody nose. "It's not as bad as it looks." Hastily, you placed the bags on the side as you rushed over to Troy, pulling some tissues out of your pocket. "I've been gone less than an hour. What happened?" Troy resisted the urge to pull away when you gently placed the tissue on his nose. "I've got a face people love to punch that's all." Your face fell, the joke had fallen flat. "Come on don't you think it adds to my rugged charm,"

"What happened?" Troy could see the concerned frown as you attempted to clean the blood off of his face. "Doesn't matter. You wouldn't believe me even if I told you." Moving to put the bloddied tissue in the bin, you turned to face him.

"Why don't you let me be the judge of that?"

"Old man Clayton's son, Travis. He keeps causing trouble at my Dad's bar. Last week, I was workin' a shift when I chucked him out-presumed he was too drunk to remember…apparently not. Guess it was better late than never to get revenge."You sighed, you did believe Troy. After all, what reason did he have to lie to you? Perhaps, what the town speculated about him wasn't always true.

"Come let's take a break and have lunch, then we can get back to work."

It's weird how things change sometimes. Troy surprised you in every which way. He could be kind and level-headed. He was polite and personable when he interacted with customers on the day you were busy. You'd begun to look forward to opening the shop each morning, knowing you'd get to spend time with Troy. You wouldn't hide how much you were enjoying this year's preparations. Usually, it was difficult work, but Troy made it easier.

One day Troy began to act suspiciously, refusing to allow you into your favorite corner of the bookstore. He refused to give anything away. Any time you attempted to sneak a peak, it was like he'd already predicted your next move.

The day before the judging, Troy met you outside of the bookstore, rubbing his hands together, fighting off the winter chill. Without saying so much as a word, Troy wrapped a red scarf around your eyes, as he led you into the bookstore. The two of you stumbled around the bookstore, as Troy led you. It should have been easy maneuvering around a building you navigated every day. Yet it was new putting your full trust in Troy.

"Ready..one…two..three…now look" Pulling back the red scarf, it was revealed the coziest Christmas-themed fireplace. It appeared to be something out of a Christmas novel. Beautiful yet understated it was everything you could have dreamed and hoped for.

"It's beautiful." Troy was proud. He finally felt as if he had done something right. For someone who increasingly mattered to him. The size of your smile alone had made it worth the extra hours of work.

Yet as you stood admiring Troy's work, Troy tapped your shoulder pointing directly above the two of you., both of you unsure. Troy found his chance and decided to make his move. He'd been thinking about it since the day he walked into your bookstore. You'd looked so beautiful, yet so relaxed. You'd given him time. You'd chosen to understand him when rarely anyone bothered. The kiss was chaste and hurried. Troy feared you would pull away from him. He didn't know what would what would happen next, but he'd like to hope his life tangled with yours some more.
