i look up to amber so much for her vulnerability and openness about mental health. as someone who was diagnosed with OCD at age four and in and out of different hospitals, having someone like amber talk about going to a mental health facility is just… i can’t even describe it. opening up about mental health is one thing but the second you admit you’ve been hospitalized people look at you a bit differently. really truly means the world to have someone i love so much use their platform to normalize talking about mental heath AND seeking treatment. ambler glenn you are so loved. you are so special to me.

Honestly alot of that stuff needs to be kept off of tiktok, twitter and insta where the skaters lurk! Assume anything you say on tiktok (positive or negative) is going to be seen by the skaters, if that makes you feel weird then what you're posting is not okay. Tumblr is the only safe space and maybe not from amber bc she's gay and a nerd. I think they should be banned from searching their names tbh, it is so bad for their mental health. like I saw a tiktok of that russian coach calling ilia overweight with sad music playing and all the comments where like "omt he's not!!" bitch your comments are bringing it straight to his algorithm

Yep! I’ve been in rpf/real person fandoms for over ten years now (am I Fandom Old yet?) and the number one rule has always been keep 👏 it 👏 at 👏 the 👏 devil’s 👏 sacrament. Tumblr and ao3/wattpad are all well and good since the algorithms or lack thereof on those sites would make it basically impossible to find stuff about themselves unless they actively sought it out. But it’s straight-up weird and invasive post about any public figure’s body, mental or physical health, love life, unconfirmed sexuality, etc where that person could reasonably find it, or worse, where you’re actively putting it directly in their algorithm.

Frankly I worry a bit about how involved Amber and Ilia are with their fandoms on Tiktok. They both frequently repost fan edits and videos about themselves, which is nice, but given that these are two athletes who have openly struggled with their mental health, I worry about them being exposed to hate via social media, especially before big competitions like the Olympics (that’s not my business though, if it’s a concern I have to assume that their coaching teams/therapists/someone will step in)
