I wish more people got this because some ‘low-empathy’ people are the most compassionate and sympathetic in the universe, and I hate it when that’s taken to mean ‘unfeeling and probably hostile’ when nothing could be further from the truth
Or, as my dad put it,
Sympathy: I know how you feel Empathy: I feel how you feel Compassion: is there anything I can do to help?
Sympathy: that sucks bro empathy: I feel that compassion: want me to send you some puppy and kitten pictures to make you feel better?
Posts like this make me feel so much better. It always seems like society treat responses to others pain as though empathy is the most important kind. I am around 85% compassionate and this post helped me not feel like I am a monster because of that for once.
low empathy people may struggle to *feel* what you’re feeling, but we can still care HARD that you’re feeling it, and care hard about you feeling better.
I went to a public lecture a while ago where the lecturer proposed that low empathy / high compassion people are actually better suited to work in a profession where they need to help other people in need directly, like a doctor or social worker. High empathy people will feel the pain the others are feeling, and be dragged down and are at higher risk to be burned out by it as well, whereas someone with low empathy and high compassion can help someone having the worst day of their lifes, care and help them in a compassionate way, and still have a pretty good day themselves! The lecturer wasn’t saying that high empathy is something bad, but it is also not always the blessing it is made out to be.
More memes but Black Butler!
Every now and then I get random bursts of obsessing over this series but I have no friends who've read the manga so I can't talk about it with them 😔

Full and finished short-story of the black cat. Please have a heart for black pets in general, animals do not deserve this kind of hostility. Please give credit when reposting, Thank you :)
No, I'm not crying, it's just the sad story of black cats in my eye😢
Here we go again..
hope this tutorial helps, anon!! a lot of this is a result of experimentation and seeing what looks best based on your picture. what i’m essentially doing is relying on the overall “mood” bg colour tie everything together cohesively by putting the local colours over it on the “soft light” filter. the other changes i do, such as the blue light on him and the flavour elements are all based around making it more cohesive, e.g. the glow from the pool is all over the background AND the subject, instead of just the pool, pulling them together, if that makes sense!
of course this also relies on having some sense of what a realistic version of your scene would look like - for this comic i looked up “pool scenes night” on google to gather references i could take the colours from, and looked up lighting references for the way light would hit a face if coming from the bottom, stuff like that.
the other example is from a commission i did:
in this case, the lighting situation has a lot more light, and isn’t as atypical as pool-at-night lighting. so it was easier to rely on my usual method of colour layering, i.e.
local colour on multiply (as opposed to soft light)
monochrome shading on normal
again, experiment experiment experiment! hope this helps!

THE BEGINNINGS OF KAWAII
No, no, you have no idea. It actually IS the beginning of the whole so-called “kawaii culture”. And it started because girls started using mechanical pencils, which provided fine handwriting. After being banished (more precisely, during the 80s), this kind of writing started being used in products like magazines and make-up. And, during this time, icons we usually associate with the whole kawaii industry (like the characters from Sanrio) came to life too.
And what many people don’t realize is that this subculture was born as a way for young girls to express themselves in their own way. And it was also used as something against the adult life and the traditional culture, often seen as dull and boring and oppressive. By embracing cuteness, these young girls (and adult women, after a while) were showing non-conformation with the current standards.
So yep. Kawaii is important, and it all started with cute, simple handwritting a few hearts and cat faces in some girls’ school notebooks <3
!!!!!
NO OK THIS IS SO IMPORTANT!
This is also how the kawaii fashions started! Girls began dressing in cute and off beat styles for themsleves, they were criticized by adult figures telling them “you’ll never find a husband if you dress that way!” to which they began to reply “Good!”
All the Japanese subcultures and fashions that evolved out of this became a rebellion to tradition and the starch gender roles and expectations the adults were forcing on the younger generations. As early as the 70s and still to this day you’ll see an emphasis on child-like fashion and themes in more kawaii styles and the dismissal of the male gaze with styles like lolita (a lot of western people assume lolita is somehow sexual due to the name of the fashion, but ask any Japanese lolita and they will tell you that men hate the style and find it unattractive which is sometimes a large reason they gravitate towards the style - they can express their femininity and individuality while remaining independent and without the pressure to appeal to men)
Its so so so important to understand the hyper cute and ‘odd’ fashions of Japanese girls carry such a huge message of feminism and reclaiming of their own lives.
so are you telling me that Japan’s punk phase was really the kawaii phase
Kawaii is so goth

I did not know this but I love this form of feminism!

Which is why you get bands like BABYMETAL, which toured with Judas Priest for a while, looking like this:

Ya know there's a really horrible but very funny tradition in eastern parts of Turkey to name children a certain way when they're unexpected: "Stop" Phantomhive "Enough" Phantomhive "Help" Phantomhive
Ouch! 😆 Ok, so....
Today’s Terrible Name Suggestion is...
Stop Phantomhive
Enough Phantomhive

Average size mannequin with average size woman.
The problem, in one picture.
I never realized until seeing this picture that my interpretation of an average size woman has become REALLY SKEWED oh my god I wanna cry
best picture ive reblogged in a while.
I’ve been struggling with my body image recently because I’ve gained a lot more weight… and this is so helpful to me because I think my image has been skewed by a lot of mannequins in stores.

That Butler, Reckless: Death approaches from yonder
In the previous chapter (159) we get a glimpse of Meyrin’s path to becoming a trained assassin, and her life at the Mafia. The Mafia head grew increasingly agitated as his position as don gets challenged, on top of the laws surrounding his business get tightened.
And the one held ultimately responsible for the tightening of the laws is none other… than our little Watchdog.
