I'm not necessarily mad atp. It's just the mandatory blockbuster Odyssey that one Hollywood man per generation feels compelled to make, with the biggest budget and best technology available at the moment.
There are some themes they're recreating from The Odyssey, it's not a wasteland.
It's not any worse than Epic, although Nolan should reevaluate his work when it's not better than Epic either.

Ok to close the nostos part. I liked it. The main, very decanted, idea of each section is there.
The Sirens could've incorporated the knowledge quality to the temptation they incarnate, since you know, this is Odysseus we're talking about. But I liked that they make us a part of the scene making us want to hear what Odysseus is hearing. So minus point and plus point.
It is funny they tackled the whole dubious consent "if male gods can abuse people I should too" attitude from Calypso by changing it for a painkiller addiction, though. But yeah, fair enough.
One thing I will say and it is I don't see the movie making Troy's (2003) mistake of making this an atheist world. It is stated many times that the gods are literally there doing their thing all around.
Odysseus "I'll defy the gods" is not a declaration but a phrase in the context of a conversation where he's saying he'll do whatever he can not to lose every last man in his crew. He knows he can't stop it, he'll try anyway and he loses because there's no defying the gods (please Epic take note).
Also yeah, you don't get to call your movie inclusive when every othered actor you have has less than 10 minutes on screen.
