All the writing advice in the world doesn’t mean a thing in the face of “Just write the story you want to read most.”

The advice and ‘What Not to Do/How To”s come to supplement that statement and make the story you want for yourself better, not to snuff it out.

Bc I can guarantee you every single one of your favorite stories contains a number of those “tired old tropes” or an amount of “cringe” that you either never noticed due to it being well executed, or bc it simply didn’t matter in the bigger picture. The same goes for design. Hades game is a great example, bc every single one of those designs is dripping in “no-no, that’s a sparkledog (sparklegod)” bs. Zagreus even has mismatched eyes. They’re all fucking amazing though! Don’t let the “rules” stop you from making something awesome that brings you joy.

Companies nowadays are getting SO comfortable asking for our social security numbers.

Like why tf does Optimum need my social to install wifi? They're just an internet provider, they don't need my social. I don't care that the last people living at my location didn't pay their bill, there are a dozen other ways to prove that I'm not them without me handing over my social.

Anyway, hot tip, legally you can refuse to give your social security in unnecessary cases like this. If a company needs to prove that you are who you say you are, they have alternative ways to do so.

1. The government.

2. People who are giving you a paycheck.

I’m am so done with fucking medical providers trying to weasel my SSN out of me. I have spent decades arguaplaining to officious receptionists in medical offices that it’s illegal for them to require me to give them my social security number and they should not be asking for it.

Do you know how many businesses, medical providers, etc. get hacked on the daily? Right. Don’t give out your social security number.

I do this when ever I'm asked for mine and 9/10 the person I am talking to does a neat little verbal U turn and asks for some other ‘verification’.

Also, since it’s related, remember that government organizations DO NOT call you to contact you. The government sends LETTERS. Usually more than one even.

I'm at the end of my rewatch of Shadowhunters and I have some Thoughts about what happened to Clary. So basically, the angels care more about being obeyed than actually protecting and saving humans. Clary stopped Jonathan from destroying the world and killing all mundanes and the angels PUNISH her because she didn't obey them. They would've rather had Jonathan kill thousands, millions, of mundanes rather than have Clary create a rune to stop him once and for all. It's nice to know where their priorities are.
