Immerse yourself in an electrifying live set from Dushume and Dhangsha, blending South Asian–inspired experimental noise with heavy bass and improvisation. Using DIY instruments, distorted textures and evolving rhythms, they create dark, visceral soundscapes shaped by cultural memory and underground music traditions. Presented on a bespoke sound system, this is a deeply physical listening experience at the edge of bass and experimental sound.

I was delighted to present new work "Bassial Pressure" for 3 IKOS as part of Sonic Spheres.

The Fireworks Factory in Woolwich Works was transformed into a living, resonant environment where multiple spherical loudspeaker arrays animate the space with fully immersive 3D Sound.

REProduce London: Bass Boss (Film) / Koi Hain (Film) / Dushume (Live)

I was delighted to be invited to Play a Dek Bass Noise Set alongside Dhangsha bringing the heat as always.

A bit more about the event below:

Dek Bass is a form of extreme low end frequency deployment originating from rural West Bengal, India. As terrifying as it is wildly popular in the region, the form originated from the mind of one man: DJ Khobir. This event will present Bass Boss, a film on Dek Bass and the imitable agent of its genesis, DJ Khobir. The film will be shown in its entirely for a rare screening as it makes its way around Europe, with director Rana Ghose present and in conversation with Nishant Shukla. curator at Lake. A film collaboration between them, Koi Hain, will also be screened. The evening will flow into live musical performances by London's own Dhangsha and Dushume on Club Sily's bespoke sound system PA.

BASS BOSS

Rana Ghose investigates Dek Bass, a sound system style unique to West Bengal and sets out to meet its elusive leading light DJ Khobir. Overwhelming, aggressive, and prone to virulent fandom in his region, this form of sonic expression and assertion is of its own genesis. There is no reference to Jamaican sound system culture within. It was rendered pure and unadulterated from the mind of one person: DJ Khobir.

कोई है / Koi Hain?! / Is anybody there?! This film follows the intimate, performative rituals of a man offering tears to a river – a gesture of surrender and transcendence, a universal yearning to be seen by something beyond oneself. Referencing the pursuit of ‘Moksha’ – liberation from the cycle of rebirth – Koi Hain?! embodies our shared search for the unattainable.

Big love to KASK School of Arts in Gent for the invite! I had the pleasure of sharing my project Exploring Cultural Diversity in Experimental Sound as part of their listening session series on sound and politics—an incredible space for deep listening and open conversations.

We dived into Disruptive Frequencies, the vinyl compilation born from this project, spinning tracks that push sonic boundaries while tackling themes of access, inclusion, and decolonisation in experimental sound. The atmosphere was alive with curiosity and critical discussion—breaking down barriers, rethinking how we listen, and opening up fresh perspectives on sound’s political potential.

Grateful for the dialogue, the community, and, of course, the deep listening. Look out for the podcast. More to come!

DARK ENERGY PRESENTS...SHAMICA RUDDOCK + BANTU + DUSHUME + DHANGSHA

Celebrating label Dark Energy's inaugural release, Bantu's debut album "Instability," four protagonists explore the juxtaposition of heavy bass with noise. Bantu himself presents deep modulations that simmer with a quiet rage, exploding unexpectedly into bit-crushed stutter and then abrupt silences. Shamica Ruddock posits disjointed and chaotic loops, broken and sometimes beyond repair, subby and disorientating. Dushume contributes menacing low end frequencies, neither pulse nor drone, that envelop bodies like an impenetrable black fog. Dhangsha offers an industrial inflected dancehall which invariably collapses under sonic duress, with mutilated beats straddling the boundaries of good taste.

I was delighted to be invited to give an artist talk about my practice and also perform at the Quorum based in the ArtsOne Building's Pinter Studio at Queen Mary University in Mile End, London. Quorum is affiliated with the School of English and Drama.

It was great to be back at MTI DMU on the 1st Feb 24 for the first concert of 2024 as part of the Centre for Sound/ Image Intersections Tour!

This event was a start of a new experimental imperative “Bassial Audio” special thanks to Andrew Knight-hill for live distinctive diffusing and spatialisation. It was a pleasure to play and make physical  harsh bass and deep noise alongside these fantastic artists in a 7.1 boutique Sound Art gallery Lake at Enclave 5 in Deptford.

SOUND/IMAGE 23 festival returned this years from 9-12 November. This audiovisual festival brought together international artists and experts exploring the relationship between sounds and images, and the images which sounds can construct by themselves.  

A rich programme of complementary talks, screenings, loudspeaker orchestra concerts, and performances – bringing together composers, filmmakers, electronic musicians, live visual performers, researchers from all over the world to stimulate discussion, debate and engage diverse perspectives and new insights on sound and audiovisual practice. 

I had the opportunity to present 'Avartan' on the Immersive Theatre at Bathway Woolwich 200-person capacity venue with a fixed 28.2 audio system (Genelec 8050 and 7382 subs) with additional loudspeakers to from the Sound/Image Loudspeaker Orchestra.
